Alec is listed as active for the opener. The Suns have the maximum 17 players on the roster but you only dress 13. With 3 players currently injured he should be active a lot early. Hopefully he gets some playing time.

His 3-pointer closed the lead to just 46 points.  Could be a long season for the Suns. Still, congrats to Alec.

Yes, but it was against the Blazers! Wait! Not the Warriors?

Congratulations to Alec on becoming the fourth (or sixth, depending on your definition) Valpo graduate to play in an NBA game!

Oof, that's a heck of a score. At least they didn't actually lose by 50 on their opening game of their 50th season.  :-[

If anything though, I think this bodes well for Alec to get a lot of play time during his rookie season. It's nice to see him draining 3's again.

Alec was +1 for his ten minutes!  He needs more playing time!

11 minutes. 1-2 from 3 (and overall). 3 defensive boards and a block. Not too bad.

Well that didn't take long....the Suns fired their coach after three games. It's a bad team but two horrible performances out of three was enough. Look for a salary dump in the near future.

That Suns team has a lot of young talent but they looked horrendous they're first 3 games. I don't think anyone was expecting them make it out of the West but they really looked bad.

I watch the last half of the game last night and Alec was the only player on the bench clapping and cheering for his teammates. It seemed like the stars of that team tuned the coach out from the get-go. I can't remember a team firing its coach that early in the season.

They talk about the Suns situation on NBA TV here.

I'm sure Alec is learning a great deal about the attitudes of the other players in the NBA and what doesn't work that well for a coach and the upstairs management of a team.  Alec's new head coach was one of the Suns asst coaches, Jay Triano, who was a head coach of the Raptors.

So, how bad is this news for Alec?

I notice the Suns' G/D League team starts their schedule November 4.

It's to be seen. I think it really depends on the system the new coach wants to run and if he's a fit. The interim coach was the associate head coach coming into the season. I bet they salary dump the expensive vets like Tyson Chandler by the trade deadline.

In other news with the Suns it seems that they have some "prima donnas" on that team. Might help to have high character/team guys like Alec in the locker room and on the bench.

We have to wait and see, but some news articles suggest that the poor state of the Suns will make it difficult for them to trade up or attract high profile free agents. Consequently, the more likely option ahead would be to rebuild with a youth movement, giving the young players more time on the court, and that situation could benefit Alec.

There is some talk that the future coach for the Phoenix Suns might be former Sun Dan Majerle. This could be good for Alec since Majerle, even though he was a 6'6" shooting guard, had a game similar to Alec's.

valporun

Would it be a good move for Dan Majerle to leave Grand Canyon University this close to the start of the season?

crusadermoe

Not good for GCU of course.  But they might not have kept him at GCU anyway.  This way he stays in town and can still be a promoter for GCU.

It's hard to know what Majerle is paid there.  It's a for-profit school.

Reports suggest Majerle would need to be persuaded because he and the Suns have had differences in the past, and if he were to be hired it likely would be for next year. That is why he is mentioned as a possible "future" coach.

vu84v2

GCU is a for-profit university in one of the worst conferences in college basketball. ANY move is an improvement.

The Suns have historically been a screwed up organization.  A former client of mine., Lance Blanks, who had previously been an NBA player and Asst GM at Cleveland, was hired as the GM for the Suns (2010-2013).  He is an extraordinary person yet had a hard time meshing with the ownership.  Apparently nothing has changed in the interim.

It's sad but the NBA doesn't call charges unless you're a star or it's so blatant that the refs are forced to call it. That goes for travels too. That was definitely a charge.
