NBA prospect, nearly 'elite' chemistry have Boise State men's basketball ahead of game

Williams, who graduated from Valparaiso with a degree in accounting, averaged 22.9 minutes per game last season as the Crusaders went 24-9 and earned a berth in the NIT. The Chicago native will challenge for a spot as the Broncos' starting point guard.

"I'm the type of player that really tries to do anything to win," Williams said.

My opinion remains that one of our primary goals for this season is to properly prepare for the following 18-19 version. From that perspective this becomes a win for Lexus, a win for Boise St, and a draw or win for Valpo as well. Pretty rare when that can be said from this type of move.

I don't know about you folks but I will be watching some Bronco basketball this year.    Go Lexus!

Brandon Wood is one of 10 guards in camp with the Windy City Bulls

Couldn't the WC Bulls have, at least, put Brandon's school designation as Valparaiso/Michigan State instead of just Michigan State. That says a lot about how the G League teams feel about players from mid-majors. It's almost like being a second class citizen.

At the professional level, they look more at the last school attended, not the cumulative number of schools. We have to remember, Wood's undergrad was Valpo, but "grad school" was Michigan State.

He graduated from Valpo     ....... and he earned which graduate degree at MSU?

VU2014

I wouldn't say 2nd class citizen. It's more like having dual-citizenship. Brandon Wood graduated with his bachelors from Valparaiso and earned his masters at MSU. I don't take it as a slight.

Did he?  For sure?  He was there to play basketball for Izzo's eat-them-up-and-spit-them-out, high pressure program and then pursued a pro career. He had the time?  If he managed that, that's an accomplishment.

I thought he earned his masters but I could be wrong. Yeah at the big programs a lot "grad-transfers" don't actually care about the education aspect. It's all business for some. I remember someone from Cleveland State mentioned Trey Lewis who transferred to Louisville never earned his masters. Once the season ended apparently he went straight into prepping for the professional career.

Brandon and I are friends and we communicated during his time at MSU.  My recollection is that he had a "very light" schedule of classes and he certainly didn't hang around after his one year there.  It is an almost certainty that he didn't gain a Masters Degree.

Someone on Twitter was pointing out Kay Felder's school was listed as "none". But, of course, he didn't graduate.

I was randomly looking at the Valpo Athletics Staff Directory and I noticed Ben Boggs is the Assistant Director of Annual Giving in the Athletics Department. I had no idea he worked for the Valpo Athletics Department. I wonder if he ever practices with the team during the summers or anything.

Yes, Ben works under and with John Kuka I think. Ben called me about 3 or 4 weeks ago regarding my Crusader Fund donation, etc. I think that was his second week on the job. Ben replaced Katie Britton. Good guy and a pleasure to talk to.

She took a similar position at University of Chicago but it sounds like she's taking on a bit more responsibility.

David Skara and the Clemson Tigers play their first game of this year (exhibition game tonight against Augusta). Here is the story.

For some reason the URL isn't working so below is the story.

To me it will be interesting to see how the situation that brought much drama to Valpo ends.

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson men's basketball program will take on Augusta University in an exhibition contest inside Littlejohn Coliseum on Thursday, November 2 at 7 p.m.

This will mark the first of two exhibition games that the Tigers will host. Clemson will host Tennessee on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 12:30 p.m. as part of a Hurricane Relief exhibition with all proceeds and donations benefitting the Salvation Army's continued relief efforts.

Clemson returns two starters and eight lettermen off of the 2016-17 team that finished with a postseason berth in the NIT. Included in the list of returning lettermen is guard Shelton Mitchell who returns as the Tigers' leading scorer (10.8 ppg) and guard Marcquise Reed who also returns as a double-digit per game scorer (10.0 ppg).

Forward Donte Grantham was named to CBS's Jon Rothstein's Top 20 Breakout Players for the 2017-18 season. Clemson also welcomes six newcomers to the squad.

The regular season opens on Friday, November 10 against Western Carolina University. Regular-season tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling 1-800-CLEMSON or visiting ClemsonTigers.com.

Skara plays 14 minutes in Clemson's blowout 80-56 win over Augusta. He had 4 points and 2 rebounds. You wonder how he would have fit in with this year's Valpo team.

I liked Skara and wished we still had him, but the player we got in his place was Burton. It's too early to say but in a round about way we may have upgraded in that debacle.

They beat NAIA College of Idaho by 5, 74-69.  They were down by 5 at the half. Lexus tied for the top in defensive rebounds and was 1 off in total RBs.  He missed all three of his shots from the floor.
