New Commit: Bertrand Berry 6'1 215 DE/OLB Highland HS AZ

Other offers: Concordia College

Notes: Son of former NFL player Bertrand Berry

Bertrand Berry attended the University of Notre Dame and was a four-year letterman in football. He finished his NCAA football career with 187 tackles and 16.5 sacks.

Berry was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft, starting out as a linebacker before switching to defensive end.

He spent most of his time there playing between defense and special teams, starting most of the games on defense. He signed with the St. Louis Rams in 2000, but was cut during training camp.

He signed with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League on September 26, 2000, on October 11 after seeing action in two games. He recorded one tackle in his two appearances.
[
By the 2003 season with the Denver Broncos, he was the starter at defensive end and led the team in tackles and sacks. He was picked up as a free agent by Arizona before the 2004 season, during which he was named as a starter to represent the NFC in the 2005 Pro Bowl.

On March 18, 2009, Berry agreed to a one-year contract.

On January 21, 2010, Berry announced his retirement from the NFL. He finished his career with 232 total tackles, 65 sacks and 13 forced fumbles.

I found this kind of interesting. Indiana State made 9 threes in the first half and the Beacons made 4 threes but neither team made any threes in the second half.

Wasn't too far off  If they had played it out maybe it would have been closer but Jacobsen called off the scoring in the last minute & Valpo reciprocated.

17. Tim Hostetler 1974-78 284
18. Greg Tonagel 1998-04 280
19. Daniel Sackey 2018-2021 269
20. Darius DeAveiro 2021-....    248

Tim Hostetler was one great ball handler and assist man. He, like a lot of point guards, passed first and looked to shoot when there weren't any better options.

I tried to look up some facts but could only find that his niece, Kasey, played soccer at Seattle U & Western Washington.

Unfortunately the 1st half looks to be worse than even I had predicted. I think Belmont will win by 25 to 30.There are some very bad weaknesses on this Valpo team. They must be solved before the Beacons can even come close to winning against good MVC teams like Belmont.

I believe that Valpo wins by getting just enough from Stafford, DeAveiro & Schweiger and enough bad play from Evansville to pull out a win.

Gregg Doyel      an award-winning writer for the Indianapolis Star, attended the Indiana State vs. Bradley men's basketball game Saturday at Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Indiana. He wrote a column about the Sycamores' ascendance to the top of the Missouri Valley Conference.

While there, Doyel observed what he characterized as Wardle's "histrionics" in dealing with Braves players during the game.

"I'm sitting next to the Bradley bench and dislike its coach on sight," Doyel wlrote on X.com. "The way he talks to his players, his bench, his histrionics ... you can HAVE him. And then I realize it's Brian Wardle, and it all adds up.

"Again: You can HAVE this guy."

The original post by Doyel had 58,000 views on X.com, the site formerly known as Twitter. Many of the reposts included criticism of Doyel or support for Wardle, who has been Bradley's head coach since 2015 and received a
contract extension last summer.

One X.com user asked Doyel for clarification."Who can have him?" @TedConnellyIV asked. "You realized it's Wardle? Did you think Jim (Molinari) was still there? What's your history with him? Please expound. Criticism is the worst when it is cryptic."

Replied Doyel: "Zero history. Just what I saw last night. There doesn't have to be a conspiracy. Sometimes things are exactly what they seem. ... Nothing cryptic about my criticism. I hate bullies. He's a bully. There's a difference between hard coaching and humiliation. He goes for the latter. Hell with him."

Wardle declined to comment on the criticism when contacted about comments by Doyel, whose newspaper is part of Gannett and the USA TODAY Network, along with the Journal Star.

How many of you thought that Drake played against Valpo at it's top form? Would the Bulldogs have played at the same skill level against Indiana State, Bradley, Murray State or Belmont?

What has Valpo done to make that score different really?

We have 62 days of additional maturity which is enormous for a team like ours. With nothing to lose and knowing the opponent may want to run up the score I'm thinking we battle to the wire to keep it within 10 points.

Okay, but what did that gain us against Southern Illinois & Missouri State?

Do you think Valpo got better outcomes? Better than last year, yes. Better than expected, no.

I hope the Beacons play better than before but Drake will play at home in the Knapp Center and even if challenged will want a big win.

I think the brother was signed before Cooper.  And I thought I heard Coach say we were the only offer Cooper had.  ??   If that is true, hopefully there would be some loyalty there, especially in light of Coach recruitring  class kids.

....and how much loyalty have Valpo players showed in the past? I don't think Cooper or any player in his position would stay for 4 years.

Will be nice to Lual and Lucas next year. Two more big bodies.

How nice willyoube?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Turnovers at the start of the 2nd half doomed Valpo. Also poor free throw shooting, especially after beating UIC because of free throw shooting, really hurt. Playing on the road is especially tough on young teams when the tide turns in the game.

In 2022 these were the Univ of Missouri MBB asst coaches salaries

In head coach Dennis Gates' contract, $915,000 was included for his three assistant coaches.
With the hire of Smithpeters, that money has been divided between associate head coach Charlton Young who will make $600,000 yearly on a three-year contract and assistant coach Dicky Nutt who signed a one-year deal for $165,000.

We will need a miracle to win 5. With some continued good play we have a chance to win 4. Most likely 2-3 wins.

I'm going with 4-3

I could possibly see us beating Mo St & Evansville but out of Belmont, No Iowa
So Illinois, Drake, & Indiana State which two do you think we'll realistically beat?

The difference was the 15 fouls called on UIC in the 2nd half & Valpo shot 19 for 21 free throws in the 2nd half after only getting 3 free throws in the 1st half.

To put things in perspective, things could be worse, and we could be Detroit.  Holy crap, I didn't realize that they were this bad nowadays at 0-20 (0-9), and just lost to Youngstown by 40!

Bad time in the Motor City for Mike Davis. It's a long way from when he coached IU in the National championship game.
