Did you see what he tweeted out? I know he can come back, but that didn't read like a person intending on returning. Man, thinks have really got out of hand this offseason in the HL.

from Paul Oren... citing Kay's Instagram posting:

2kayzero:   I've been thinking about the NBA (my ultimate dream) and coming back for my senior year and today I made the decision to leave school early and enter my name in 2016 NBA draft! God has blessed me all my life and this year has been such a blessing! I would like to say thank you to everyone that helped me along the way! But now the work gets even harder!! And I'm ready for it! OAKLAND has been such a great place and I'll never forget the memories I had here with my teammates, coaches, trainers and professors!! I'll forever be a GOLDEN GRIZZLY 🐻🤘🏾

This place is gonna be unrecognizable next year.

Actually, it will be the same:

Another year, no NCAA Tourney wins.

I guess the only difference will be no more Butler money

Kay has hired an agent therefore you won't be back.  I wonder what King Kampe was pushing?
CRUSADERS!!!

Here's the twitter...

msilvermannnProud to officially represent Kay Felder (@2kayzero)...welcome to #AMG!

M

Felder is like Isiah Thomas Jr or whatever his name is for the Celtics, just with a worse outside shot.

wh

Kay would be on my top 5 player list for the 9 years we've been in the HL. I wish him the best of success at the next level.

Another blow to the Horizon.

But selfishly, it does increase likelihood of an NCAA bid.

With so many good players back, we are solid without Skara.

I'm no NBA guy, but I'm not seeing much love for him (Felder, or Alec) at www.nbadraft.net/2016mock_draft

Has Felder going 51 to none other then the Celtics.

Edit: does Boston really have 8 picks in this draft?!

vu84v2

Mock drafts mean little, but mean even less when a team has eight picks. It seems very unlikely that Boston would actually select eight players rather than trading some picks for future picks.

However, looking at the mock Boston selections is pretty hilarious when you consider Felder. He would be selected behind Buddy Hield, Denzel Valentine,Wade Baldwin and Wayne Selden. I am not as familiar with Baldwin, but Felder is nowhere close to Hield, Valentine or Selden in overall ability. Add Boston already having Marcus Smart and you can see a scenario where Felder would likely not make the roster - let alone play.

Pretty strong words against Mr. Felder, who was the best guard to play in the Horizon in a long time.

Not going to try to over analyze your statement but rather just give some facts.  If you just look at Kay's games against major opponents including Georgia, Washington, Michigan State and Virginia, this past season, he averaged 32 points per game and had a asst to turnover ratio of 2.2 to 1.  Against Michigan State alone he had 37 points, 9 assists and 2 turnovers. Not to sure the guys on those teams would agree with you.

Compare him to any of those guys and he is much quicker, and that is saying a lot.  The guy can flat out fly--literally.  His disadvantage?  We all know that.  Valentine is 6'5 and so is Hield.  That is why they will go higher.  But to say that Kay is "nowhere close...in overall ability"  is just not accurate.

Felder in 2015-2016: 44% from the floor, 35.5% from 3-point range. 2014-2015: 42% from the floor, 34% from 3-point range. Certainly a great free throw shooter and handles the ball well, but not a great defender. While I will grant you that he had great games against Washington and Michigan State, there were also games when he was building up stats late in games in which the outcome was no longer in doubt.

The defense issue is addressed in the article above.  Granted, most of the quotes are from Kampe, who said, in part, that he directly told Kay to back off defensively as to not wear him out for offense.  Apparently during the combines he has been much better and putting up pretty solid steal numbers.
It hould be fun to see if he is drafted and if so, where.

The other reason Kampe gave for holding Felder back on D was to prevent him from being sucked into foul trouble.  Both solid  tactics IMO, given how much they relied on the kid for just about everything else.

valpo64

Heard an interview with "King Kampe" this morning...regarding Felder he told him it would be best if he returned to OU next year as early expectations were he would be drafted late  in second round but in last few weeks Kampe thinks he could go as high as 18 or 19th.  Really?

valpotx

It is good to get drafted, but I have to believe that Kay felt that he would get picked sooner than #54 to the Atlanta Hawks.  Congratulations, but he should have stayed in school...

Good for Kay. Good kid that worked hard.

M

Great for him, read he is being sent to the Cavs.

I do disagree with the thought of he should've stayed in school. This was a weak PG (and overall) draft class. Unless he was planning on growing 5-6 inches this was his best shot.

vusupporter

The Cavs had no draft picks, but paid the Hawks to get this pick to take Felder. Makes me think there's a very good chance he actually ends up on the roster next year.

$2.6 million reasons.  If he does, then Rowdy's Australian pal( Dellavedova)will be looking for work.  The Cavs won't be carrying two backup points.

I think Delly has been rumored to be out the door for awhile. With that said, late 2nd rounders are typically fringe NBA players. The average 54th pick played 97 games, 5.1 mpg, and 1.8 ppg. 75% either never play in the NBA or were complete busts.

Also, Kay could probably make the team as their 15th guy and be assigned to the D-League.
