Did he actually commit??  Had interest (or was interested in) IU, Purdue, Nebraska AND Valpo!!  Here is a kid who will get a full ride from Valpo.  Top ten in his class!!

Valpo offers full scholarships for academics?
[/b]

Yes, that would be a Presidential Scholarship.  Might it not quite cover everything?  Possibly, but not much.  The kid is a great student and probably wants to be challenged rather than skating by for four years.  Still, a win over the big boys (who may have offered a walk-on, is still great.  In this video he pancaked a bunch of dudes:

Presidential doesn't get you even half way to the true cost of attendance. Director's is about half the total cost.  There's another award which is given out to a couple of students more specific to outstanding Lutheran students.

valpofb16

Long Sapper: Carter Puckett 6-0 200 pounds Laporte HS commit

valpofb16

Outside Linebacker: Cole VanSetters 6-0 210 Rockford Illinois commit

Brings class to 8 commitments , if no transfers or attrition there are about 14-18 roster spots remaining for camp

I stand corrected.  The Directors Scholarship is the biggest non-athletic scholarship at $26,000.  The current sticker price is 46,680 per the website.  He could be getting other outside scholarships and/or  student loans and on-campus jobs or grant money if he comes from a high need family.  The only athletic full-rides are for basketball and volleyball.

A general number I use when talking to players is a cost of $50,000 per year when everything is factored in. If you're the Valedictorian you may get half of it paid for plus the other possibilities you mention.

valpofb16

Defensive Tackle: Nathan Orlandini Columbus, Ohio 6-1 245 commit

valpofb16

Corner Back: David Hebda 5-11 175 Brighton, MI commit

Also worth noting he has a twin brother named Henry who was on the visit as well and is offered

valpofb16

Wide Reiver: Josh Benson 5-11 175 Lake Central, IN, commit, has a 247sports profile, looks like we're cleaning up northwest Indiana

Holy crap!  This kid is a stud and with breakaway speed.  A track site said he ran a 7.28 60 and a 23.99 200 meter.  That is before this coming spring season.  Watch the highlight film. The kid can fly!

Kevin Wright only played Freshman ball at Aquinas. He was at Wellington High for his Jr year before heading north. Wellington is the school Jean Rene attended.

Some terrific size, particularly at linebacker.  Not sure we have had a bunch off 200 plus lb. linebackers before.  Also better size at WR

This kid is a beast and I'm guessing an immediate starter.  Pancake after pancake and SIZE!!!  Wow!  The recruiting class is really taking off and still only one Floridian and zero from Texas or California! (yet)

300lbs at 6'2" may actually be too big to be athletic enough for the position. At that size, if he were athletic enough at the collegiate level he'd probably be headed to a scholarship program. Growing into the body is better in my opinion.

I think he HAS grown into his body and will only get bigger.  Take a look at his highlites.  He plays pulling guard in a winged T formation.  Pretty solid.

That's against HSers where size is going to outweigh the ability to move. I'd bet, if anything, the kid would trim down if there's an expectation he's going to improve at the collegiate level. As I said, a 6'2" 300lb OG (always a potential Center as well at that size) who's not recruited to play at a scholarship program says something in my opinion. It would probably be more impressive if he was 20 to 25 lbs lighter. For instance, the player who lined up next to Nick Antonacci (Valpo recruit) at STA is 6'3" and 270. He's being recruited fairly significantly as a Div I player. He'll be bigger when he plays in college but he's an athlete (as is Antonacci).

The new recruit for Valpo may actually be a fit at DT if he's got a solid enough base.

However, we shall see.
