It's refreshing to see the baseball uniforms using BROWN & gold(yellow) colors in this year"s preview piece.

Nice professionally put together video preview of the team. Similar preview of same quality was put together for softball.

I would assume still no video or audio feeds for home games again. Also, who is Western Kentucky to put their video behind a pay wall?

My understanding is that it would cost quite a large sum of money in order to get Emory G Bauer Field hooked up with the setup needed to stream games.  A good start to the season, where we came away 1-2, but could easily be 3-0.

It looks like we are going to have a very good season.  We are 3-4 against Western Kentucky, UAB, and Jacksonville.  Off to a good start against warm-weather teams!

Another good win today against Jacksonville (5-2), to move to 4-4!  We might be in for another 30+ win season, which is definitely difficult to do when you have to play 40+ away games out of 55-60 total games each year.

There will be audio for home games from WVUR, like there has been in the past. There are plans to test video streaming for one game this season, so that's something that's definitely on the radar for the future.

Good to hear that more modern technology may allow for more streaming of baseball games in the future!

Yes, and tonight they blow a lead in the bottom of the ninth!  Credit to them for fighting back from 2-0 in the eight to take a lead.  Nonetheless, I question putting a freshman closer out there and, in hindsight, wondering whether or not that was the best decision.

We don't really have a defined closer this season, but Tieman had been solid up until that outing.  We are definitely competitive on a national level in baseball and softball, so it was exciting to see us almost beat another national powerhouse, in spite of their current record.

But, he is a freshman!  Got to be pretty tough to be put out there against Purdue and Wichita State in the bottom of the ninth!

True, but when I was playing, we put out a FR starter and FR reliever against #1 Notre Dame (at the time), and we won ;).  Granted, it was a SR closer.

I remember in the past the baseball program would sell gear that is usually set aside for the athletes.  They had some cool things for sale.

Disabato: Valparaiso recruit Josh Currier a cut above for Lincoln-Way Central
By: Pat Disabato

When Josh Currier was told last year he wasn't good enough to make the Lincoln-Way East baseball team, he didn't sulk or throw a fit.

Currier, a 6-foot-5 left-handed pitcher, vowed redemption.

"I'm a pretty level-headed person," Currier said. "I was pretty dejected. I was told there were 13 pitchers better than me. When I walked out of the room, the whole team was outside. I told them I was cut. They thought I was kidding.

"I was surprised. I'd never been cut before. It was motivation for me."

Let's face it. Six-foot-five lefties with 85-mph fastballs that tail away are generally viewed as an asset. Just not at Lincoln-Way East, which finished 15-18 last season.

...........

"The best is yet to come from Josh," Nowicki said. "I expect him to do very, very well at the next level."

Currier had approximately 30 college programs recruiting him, including Division I interest from Eastern Illinois and Ball State. It also doesn't hurt Currier has a 3.8 GPA and scored a 29 on the ACT.

In the end, Currier picked a place he knows.

"My sister (Kayla) plays volleyball at Valparaiso," Currier said. "I've been there a ton to watch her games. It's a perfect fit academically and athletically."

And a testament to not giving up.

Give the whole thing a read.

Wow, very interesting.  How in the world does a 6'5" LHP that throws 85 mph, get cut from a 15-18 program?  That is insane.  Glad to hear that he has a chip on his shoulder, as that will help him in college.

Paul Babcock--the coach who makes a decision like that should be called out.

You can correct them, if you would like.  We lost to Wichita State by 1 run in all 3 games (4-3, 3-2, and 4-3), and we BEAT Illinois State (4-3) in 12 innings.  All were away games, so Missouri State better think again if they think that they will go undefeated in conference each season.

Speaking of baseball, I was looking back at the old ICC days as we will be again facing old foes in Evansville and Indiana State.  Valpo never fared all that well in football and basketball, at least in winning conference championships, but, in baseball a different story.

The conference was made up of the founding members, Valpo, Butler, Indiana State, Ball State, Evansville and St. Joes.  It ran from 1950-1978.  During that period Valpo won the league title 17 times compared to 4 for Indiana State, 3 for Ball State and 2 for Butler.  Pretty impressive stuff.

WE'LL BE BACK!!!

We really need to get Em Bauer Field hooked up for ESPN3 broadcasts. You want to be behind Dallas Baptist in technology too? Missouri State baseball fans are going to be very upset if they can't watch their team at away games.

I think that might be part of the media deal.  We will have to be able to stream all activities in HD, at least that is what it seems like from this post http://www.valpofanzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=2848.msg85123#msg85123
