Can someone explain this to me? I'm seeing it in the sports media but nobody is talking about why he was fired. There is rumbling that he was "verbally abusive" to a kid who broke team rule and the players staged a "revolt" against him. I don't know what constitutes verbally abusive today but I remember back when I played high school foot less then 10 years ago coaches were still allowed to chew players out and I actually think it helped us because it came from a place love and wanting to push us to be the best that we could be.

I talked to a few friends who are VHS football alums and they are outrage at this players. He's apparently a tough love type a guy and that didn't sit well with these kids. I'm just curious if anyone knows anything or if anyone know more to this story? I don't know the whole story but I know a lot of people are upset.

The interim head coach is a Valparaiso (University) Football alumni named Bill Marshall.

Plot twist: VHS fires the new coach before the next season even starts. Not a good look.

There is some strange things going on at Valparaiso Schools lately. I'm seeing a lot of very angry people on twitter right now.

Rumor is it has to do with posters the coach hung up? Wow. Just wow. If that's true the School & it's administration has some issues...

I don't know...I get the signs meaning, you all get the signs meanings...harmless motivational sports talk...but this day in and age it seems you've gotta be extra cautious with anything and everything.  I don't think they were worth losing your job over (I'm only guessing it was a take them down or your gone), seems like he could've very easily just took them down.

It's a very big stretch to look at those posters and think it's encouraging young men to commit sexual assault, especially with the fact the football players and helmets were in the posters. It clearly means be aggressive and execute in terms of football. It really is sad to me that it's come to this. At some point people need to stop appeasing people who get offended by things like this.

Maybe it had to do with the word: "violent". Maybe it could do without that word. But I agree it's not worthy of losing a job over. That whole situation seems like a overreaction.

Mueller resigned. He wasn't fired.
Strange? You betcha.
Glad my kid is a soccer player.

Resigned, encouraged to resign, forced to resign...I heard and maybe someone can correct if this is wrong that these posters were put up in multiple places and not just the locker rooms or football areas.

I get how both could be upsetting to someone.

When Mueller was hired, I was told by someone in the school system that he wouldn't be welcomed by "the snowflakes" in the community who have become offended by everything, as we often see at universities as well, because of his military background and non-pc style of leadership. My understanding is that the players thought he was great.

I thought the signs were also in classrooms. To remind his athletes of these principles throughout the day.

Apparently there had been some signs up for a good while; and these edgier signs went up more recently.

He had apparently promised a tribal, militaristic culture for his team.

I'm not sure I get the posters all over the place and in particular in the classrooms. If I was an educator/administrator I'm not sure the purpose of them in the educational setting and probably would ask for them to be removed as much of a sports fan as I am. Maybe he was asked to take them down....a reasonable request if true....and he's too pig headed to do so.

With that said, I've had enough experience with coaches, ADs and school Admins to know that we often have no idea why a removal of an educator or athletic coach (sometimes serving as both) is undertaken. There have been multiple situations I am aware of locally in which a coach either resigned or was removed in which the parents and others outside which also include the student/players (and myself for that matter) absolutely were convinced of the reason the action occurred. All sorts of bad mouthing of the school, a particular AD, a county Admin and whoever else may have been involved were heard from parents, et al. Then when I've brought it up with someone in the know sometime later after things had settled down and without revealing the actual reason, it is revealed that "that wasn't the reason".

We never know despite what we might think.
