We're falling behind--they've rushed to the battlements.  I voted an hour ago to bump him to 49.79...checked just now and he's down to 49.46.

Aux armes, citoyens!  Formez vos battalons!

agibson's right, without cookies I just added a lot of votes, and in the last ten minutes or so we've pushed Alec from about 18% to north of 22%

It was pretty much smooth sailing into the 40's today.  They put up some resistance in the 46's.  We were above 50 for a while, and then they pushed us back.

We're back above 51% now.

But, we need your help to close out the game!  I'm sure they've got another push in them!

I just "stuffed the ballot box".  Alec now at 52.24!!

https://polldaddy.com/poll/8675928/ is the poll. Open in incognito, vote, close window, incognito, repeat.

govalpogo

Hmm...wonder if they are onto the ballot stuffing measures.  All of the poll results are now set to private.  Last I saw, we had bumped Alec up to 58%

agibson

They didn't seem to mind this afternoon.

I gather we can still vote?

Could have had to do with me trying to write a script that sent about 5000 requests through at one time...

I couldn't get it to work though, but still harassed their servers

They seem to have _some_ protections.  I've not tested carefully - whether it's too many in a fixed time period from a fixed IP, or what.

But, even manually submitting, I occasionally sort of time-out.  I switch wifi hot spots, or maybe just let it cool off, and I'm good to go again.

*shrug*

The site doesn't actually have any rules posted.   Pretty low key.

It is still accepting votes.  Stuff away!

There's no IP address recognition, it's just stored with cookies in your session - opening it in incognito or clearing your cookies will register a new cookie (now I'm getting hungry). Unfortunately when a vote is sent, it sets a new session cookie and uses it with the actual vote request so its hard to automate this.

I've just got cookies off entirely - I've been doing this mostly in Chrome.  It lets me vote maybe 10-20-30 times, maybe more, but then does start with the "already recorded your vote" behavior, or otherwise makes it difficult to record a vote (the vote button just doesn't operate, for example).  Waiting a bit, or maybe it's changing routers (IP's?), seems to clear it.

I figured they could be recording IP's on the back end.  Or maybe even using them automatically, but not in a strict "one vote per IP" way.

*shrug*

It's clear they're not trying very hard to prevent ballot stuffing.  But, I can see why you'd want to keep scripts away.

Maybe the behavior I saw was unintentional - just some sort of glitch.

valpotx

I would have to imagine that they stuffed the ballot to begin with, as no neutral party voters would vote 90% for a UMES player, over a Valpo player on a team that is 26-5.

Even if they're not letting us see the current standings, I bet they're still counting.  UMES seems to have a history with this contest, getting their mascot all the way to best-in-the-NCAA.  Vote away!

No explanation of the hidden results.   But, voting's still open.  And you know UMES hasn't quit.

2.5 hour left to vote!

We're certainly still in the hunt, but UMES seems to be responding to this tweet.  We need you to vote for Alec!

If people are bored with the waiting, they can vote for Tevonn in the Freshman-of-the-Year bracket

We're out to an early lead on this one, but I bet we only have a few dozen votes so far, so we could certainly use a bunch.

And, you can always still vote for the Shot (they have prizes! probably means they have rules too?):

Mike Myers def. Alec Peters (by 4 votes!)

*stunned*

A funny system, to be sure.

jloose128

After hundreds of votes for Peters were apparently 4 short...I will make sure Tevon Walker wins! At least there's no UMES freshmen up for the award; it really makes me wonder how many votes were cast in the Myers-Peters race versus the other ones...
