Only try-out player to make the final 12 too. Rest were returnees or held a more desirable status. Congrats EVN on bucking those odds.

Scott Blum.    13 years as head coach for the Women at Grace College.   They will be in the ARC Saturday 12/10 1:30 tip.  They are 8-5

http://gclancers.com/coaches.aspx?rc=265&path=wbball

In high school, Blum scored 1,576 career points at Oregon-Davis and became the only player to have his number retired in school history. He then played two seasons at NCAA Div. I Valparaiso University before transferring to Grace for his final two seasons, where he led the Lancers to a 59-11 record. Blum graduated from Grace in 1993.

Valpo was a combined 9-46 in his two seasons:
1989-90 2-11 at home, 1-11 on the road, 1-2 neutral sites
1990-91 3-8 at home, 2-13 on the road, 0-1 neutral sites

1989-90 home wins:  Indiana Wesleyan and Western Illinois
1990-91 home wins:  Air Force, Youngstown and UIC.

From the Valpo Game notes:

Is the Grace College Women all-time winningest coach.

Took over a program that averaged less than two league wins per year and turned it into a team that consistently hits double digits wins in the Crossroads League.

E Victor played 18 minutes last night in the Mad Ant's loss in overtime to the Maine Red Claws.  0-3 from the field, 0-2 from 3, 3 rebounds, 0 assists and 4 fouls.  The announcers were not to happy with E and kept saying he was forcing things and not getting the ball to the real scorers, made some very untimely fouls, but it was good to see him get some minutes.

Wow. 124-121 in (single) OT. That's a lot of points.

Ft. Wayne falls to 7-2 on the season.

#55... Bruce Comer. 1976-1977

So...I had some family business to attend to in Tampa this week, and I was in the Tampa Airport on Friday afternoon, wearing a Valpo Basketball shirt of course.  I get a tap on the shoulder.   Hey, is Valpo playing down here this week?  I said no, I'm hoping to beat the storm up for the game tomorrow night.  He said, oh yeh, Indiana State...   So... I had to ask... you follow the Crusaders?    Well, I did play for them in 1976 and 1977...and my last game was a loss to Indiana State.  That was 39 years ago!  and he asked me to say hi to Rod Moore!  (which I did pass along tonight)

I had to look that up...the 1976-77 teeam was coached by Ken Rochlitz and Joe Otis...Comer was on with Tim Hostetler, Darryl Ashby, Nolan Petties, Max Kipfer and Pete Schmelzer.  Highlights were an OT win over Tulane 79-76 followed by 83-80 win over Evansville both in Hilltop.

Just a reminder... Wear the Valpo Brown and Gold !

The D League is having a showcase with something like 8 games on NBA TV this week.

Fort Wayne got run out of the gym by Windy City (EVN is not currently among the 11 playing).

Sioux Falls beat Reno, Fernandez played 6 minutes, 5 rebounds, 5 fouls. He did not make much of a showcase.  I watched most of the second half and I have to be honest it was pretty dreadful basketball by both teams and the refs.

I didn't make the connection at first, but, is this Phil Blasko's old job? Or is it maybe one level above that?

He didn't play Thursday, but got a couple of minutes in each of the two games before that. Averaging 10 MPG over a dozen games, something like that. Maybe a recent down tick, but it seems like he's been playing a role.

Ands, to pick on him slightly: these are not bad ideas. But aren't they already offered through the Parks? At Discovery Cottage. Or maybe he's talking about classes for adults.

I believe Phil was replaced by a lady, I can't remember her name but I think she was there either as an intern or in a different position previously.

I've not watched the full set, but nice to see that Austin Peters is keeping in touch with Vashil!

He continues to develop:  Seems more agile, more forceful to the basket, and is showing some new offensive moves in the paint.  Good for Vashil!

And maybe will benefit from the NBA's slightly more liberal interpretation of traveling?  ;) (even though it was also supposedly a point of emphasis to reduce traveling in the NBA this year)

Man I hope he gets back into the lineup.  Skyforce come to OKC Feb 22 and I planned on making the 1.5 hour drive from Tulsa to see Vashil.

Clay Yeo's return to Bethel basketball way to honor his coach

I didn't realize you was an All-American at that level.  He was a good player and would be 3 point specialist this year for us.  He was part of the Alex, Jubril, Lexus, class.  That was a good group of freshman the staff brought in.

I think you forgot the tie-in to Valpo Basketball.  Who did Mike Lightfoot play for and take over for as Bethel coach?

I hated to see Clay go. Last season he would have been our backup 2 and 3 and could have played a better backup point than either EVN or Shane. Great kid and a great class of recruits.

Any Cleo sightings this year at the ARC?
