The mighty Titans of IU-SB lost to Jason Gardner's IUPUI Jaguars 80-60 at the renovated State Fairgrounds Coliseum. Their big scorers were Oosha Mitchell 17 pts and TJ Benner 18 pts. They have also lost to St Ambrose by 3 at the Haunted Hoops Classic (home court), Goshen by 8 and IU-East by 5.

This is a good game to have right after a dismal shooting performance, get guys like Carter, Jubril, and Vashil going offensively against an inferior opponent and once they start scoring more consistently this will open up the offense much more.

We should get 3 wins this week, IUSB (gimme), Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and Maine. 3 very winnable games and this week could be a good week to catch some momentum as we go up against tougher opponents in the following weeks.

Yeah, but Clay led all players in time on the floor at 38 minutes!  had 3 fouls 0 assts.  The game was played at a "packed house" (because it is a rivalry game) of 319 fans!

Well, we did better then Bethel!!  Seriously, I am REALLY impressed with this year's freshman class.  How many Indiana All Stars would be better then David Skara and Tevonn Walker?  People wondered who these guys were/are and you need to take your hat off to the staff for unbelievable recruiting!

Nice game from Vashil.  Hopefully he can keep it going against guys 4 inches taller!  Some sloppy play but overall a great chance to try new combos (I kinda like Max at the point and Keith at the 2) and gain some playing experience for all!

I wondered what you would do now that Capo graduated.  Glad you're not bereft.

Chadwick has bum legs, give him a break.  Was Vashil coming off the bench a message to him about playing better?

Put more effort in at practice, would be my guess.  If Chadwick is putting all of his effort into practice, hustling, putting in extra minutes, etc., and Vashil is just going through the motions, maybe Bryce was trying to send a subtle message.  Or, maybe he missed a practice or portion of a practice (with good reason), but they have a rule about starting after missing practice?

I'm all for rewarding those that put a full effort into practice, especially in these kind of games.

The turnovers continue to be worrisome, especially without Gueye and the number of guards we have playing this year.  If we don't get better in turnover margin, this will become our Achilles heel, especially in close and HL games.

The FT shooting is less bothersome, as it is just one game.  Carter was 0-3 and Chadwick was 0-2, everyone else was OK.  If we had taken 36 FTs with the same % it might be more of a concern.  I think that Carter needed this game, as he was 4-5 in FGs, and 2-3 in 3 Pt shots.  His FT % will come around.

We've always had a lot of guards.  We haven't had Gueye except for one year.

We've ALWAYS had TO problems in the Bryce era.  Just going to have to accept it.

Yes we have.  Will hope that things get better this year.

I foresee that the Turnover Trend thread will be continued this year, with many on the board looking at our TO% and TO Margin.  Three to four possessions per game more than the opposition that don't end in our shooting the ball can't continue if this young team is to compete this year.

Heal thyself, Achilles heel!

From the press conference it was clear that Bryce was sending a message to Vashil and it looked very much like he got it!  Double /double and much improved free throw shooting.

One thing I noticed was that the only VU player not to have a turnover was David Skara.

Overall the turnovers were very evenly distributed.

Skara sure has earned himself some playing time with 17 points on 2 for 3 threes and 4 for 6 twos.

Not only that, but he is second (by one) in Assists!  His TO/A ratio is incredible!

Skara will get his playing time, especially with his play on the offensive end.  If Alec is not in the game, Skara needs to be in the game.

I'm a little more worried about our FT%, now that we've played eight games.  Our season FT% is under 65% - uncharacteristic for Drew teams.

I'm more pleased with our TO ratio, as it is still positive after eight games!

December has reversed my worries.
