We have heard that Middleton has left though he had been removed prior to the season.

Has anyone seen Burton or Evelyn in practice?

Haven't watched any practices. Where I thought I would notice them (but don't recall having done so) is on the team bench during games or standing around the team during warmups.

I don't know what the rule is, but I do recall KC doing both, for one example. In fact, if you go back to TheShot-2, you'll see Keith.

So I'm guessing that Middleton will transfer to a junior college next semester and be eligible to play next season.

Burton and Evelyn were on the bench during games until the semester break and then after that I haven't seen them.

Christmas with their families?

Mr Oren tweeted that some cat named Tom Wilson will be visiting Valpo tomorrow. He is apparently an SMU transfer.

VULB#62

He's an Aussie!  Played on their U-17 national team.  6-4 guard.

In 10 games for the 10-3 Mustangs, Wilson averaged 1.6 points, 1.0 rebound, and 0.5 assists, in just 6.1 minutes per game.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Wilson was a highly regarded spot up 3 point shooter, but needed some work on the rest of his game.  I think our outside shooting will be a little suspect next year, so would be nice to add him to the roster.

More in-depth info. 3-Star. Chose SMU over Gonzaga, UConn and others.

With Jay and Derrik set for the next 3 years Froling probably will be looking elsewhere to become the "man" at the post, yes?

Froling is listed as PF. He also is a 3-star. He chose SMU over Arizona, Colorado and Illinois. I would like to see both in Crusader uniforms!  Love that Aussie toughness!

VULB#62

Gotta get Rowdy on this!

Geez, imagine 6-11, 7-2, 6-11 across the back line?

M

Slow as can be, clogging up the paint....having all three could be nice, definitely not playing them at the same time.

The one thing said the big guy was considering going pro back home.

FieldGoodie05

I'm not sure we have a need for 6'11" unless he can shoot outside and replace the shooting prowess (fractionally) that we lose in Peters.  Hard to find playing time at the 5 I should think? No?

I mentioned that when I noted Froling is xferring -- just doing a what-if for grins.  I'm assuming he sees the same thing as we do -- log jam at the 4-5 and all young -- and he'll find some other place.  His stated reason for leaving SMU was to be a major player on a team that needs his height (which SMU apparently didn't to the level of his liking). In the era of knee jerk transfers, we are not in the position to be a talent stockpile. And if we signed him and it did work out in terms of greatly increased playing time for him, we'd probably lose either Jay or Derrick to a transfer don't ya think?  Net gain in the end - zero (except a potential upgrade in talent, but that is pure speculation).

FieldGoodie05

Takes me back to Raitis Grafs at PF, Anti Nikkala(sp) at C and the great Phil Willie 😉 Off the bench!!!

FieldGoodie05

The great news about mid season transfers are they tend to come to a timely decision!  Would think Wilson makes a decision within the month to get mid season eligibility in 2017/18?

Always thought becoming eligible mid season wasn't necessarily a good thing though.  Keith Carter comes to mind...really would've liked to get back that mid season decision.

FieldGoodie05

Anyone have updates about our scholarship offer to the Canadian big man Axel Okongo (7'0") for next year?

Wonder if the coaches are actively pursuing him after we landed Jaume?

Froling is deciding between Oregon State and Dayton. It looks lik Froling is out of the picture.

http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/sport/froling-keen-to-prove-people-wrong-after-college-switch/news-story/c49aeec31ec27299d68c22851a426709

"TOWNSVILLE junior Harry Froling has vowed to "work his arse off and prove people wrong" after obtaining a release from his US college which prevents him from playing basketball for a year.

Froling has severed ties with Dallas-based Southern Methodist University (SMU) and said he will use the enforced break as motivation and to beef up his 211cm frame.

The 18-year-old is back home for Christmas and told The Townsville Bulletin on Thursday he will decide on his new home – either Oregon State or Ohio's Dayton Flyers – by January 10.

Froling decided he "wasn't a good fit" under new coach Tim Jankovich, after Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown quit SMU just days after his arrival.

"The coach left at the start of the year as soon as I got there, so instead of waiting around and being a sitting duck I decided to move on," Froling said after scrimmaging with WNBL's Townsville Fire.

"It's come down to either Oregon State who are in the Pac 12, or Dayton who apparently go to the tournament every year.

"The best thing is knowing I'm leaving because it wasn't the right fit, rather than I'm not good enough.

"I know I'm good enough to play at any level, so it's not the level of competition I'm worried about changing to.

"I'll just work on getting better and getting my body right, when it's time to play I'll be out to prove some people wrong.

"It's just motivation, there's a lot of interesting stuff coming from SMU people.

"I guess it's going to be (about) working my arse off and prove they've lost something, and my new school has gained something.

"I'm not going to go 'he said, she said', just play hard and prove people wrong."

Transfers must spend a year in residence at a college before they are eligible to play, but a positive Froling is determined to make the most of the break.

The forward will spend plenty of time in the gym bulking up, and won't be frustrated by training without game time.

"I had it at the Crocs (Townsville Crocodiles development player) a lot of the time, and lived at the AIS in Canberra for two years and played like 14 games a year,'' he said.

"I've been through a lot of practice without many games, I'm totally used to it.

"The biggest thing for me is changing my body. I need to get into the best shape of my life, and put on a lot of muscle.

"I've had some foot trouble, so having a year out will be good for that.

"Hopefully then I can reach my potential, the year out is (about) going hard in the gym and not having to worry about going hard in games."

Froling was impressed by Oregon State's set-up when given a tour recently, and will visit Dayton on January 5.

"I could definitely see myself playing there (Oregon State), it depends on how the visit to Dayton goes," Froling said.

"I'll be practising and training with the team (I join), I just won't be able to play the rest of the season.""

Just looked at Boise State roster...currently have:   6-10 SO; 6-10 RS/SO; 6-11 RS SO; they are all getting 12-14 minutes per game.

Just looked at Oregon State roster... currently have:  7'0 Senior (10-min/gm); 6'10 SO (31 Min/gm);  6'11 SO (11 min/gm);  6'11 FR- taking RS this year.

we only have 2!

FieldGoodie05

Absolutely a chance it can work, but any newcomer to make a trio has to be athletic enough to guard smaller Forwards because neither Jaume nor Derrik have that shiftiness.  Right?

It's not likely to happen with lil Aussie because he outwardly requires early playing time...mandate.  I don't think any coach with a competitive mindset guarantees playing time easily, no?

M

I think it was suggested that all 3 giants play at the same time...no doubt they could all be in the roster.

FieldGoodie05

From a quick glance, Boise State has (7) guards who are currently freshmen or sophomores.

We have (2) scholarship underclassmen guards I believe. (Micah and Evelyn).

If Tom Wilson has his decision between VU and BS, this could be seen as favorable.

Fingers crossed the visit went well. Yeah I think Valpo is a bit more practical for a few reasons:
-I'm willing to bet there are few more direct flights back home to Australia out of O'Hare then out of Boise Idaho
-Stronger mid-major basketball program
-Developed players like Alec Peters and Rowdy the last few years, among other multiple guys who have had very successful pro careers in Europe
-Like FieldGoodie05 mentioned their is more opportunity on the roster at his position
-Now Valpo isn't Las Vegas by any means but we are a short drive away from Chicago and Boise is Idaho (enough said)
-Valpo Program is on the rise
-I'm sure Boise State has some fine programs but I'd take my education at Valpo any day over Boise State
