So the Panthers had a chance to do something special on Sunday at the ORena; Wichmann misses three free throws with 6 seconds on the clock in a tie-game.   ... and they lose to Oakland in Overtime.

Your first place Crusaders head in with a 7-game winning streak.  This CANNOT BE A TRAP GAME!!

Here's the Panther box score from Oakland:

http://mkepanthers.com/boxscore.aspx?path=mbball&id=7368

They are 8-15, 5-3 at home.  Best win was neutral court over #153 UCIrvine; Their other wins are over #289, #260, #161 (NoKy), 253 (ClevSt), 249 (Yst), 275 (UDM)... and a non-D1.

There is also a fan bus leaving from Valpo for this game.

Valpo will grab consecutive win #8 Thursday night, 82-62.

You'll have to call the Alumni office at 219-464-5142 to get a reservation but you can still get in on it. You need to call the Milwaukee ticket office 414-229-5886 and talk to Nate for a ticket in the Valpo section which is section 321. I found out I'll be in the Chicago area on Thursday and will be at both the alumni event at Andy Nunemaker's home and at the game.

Will be interesting to see if everyone who has been in the regular rotation is available for the Milwaukee game.

The Times ran an arrest column today. Just saying.

I saw that too.  I guess Derrick will have additional time to work on his game.

The most recent arrest column in the online version is from the 29th. Don't make me buy a paper. You're not spreading rumors, just reporting facts. What gives?

Look what happened to Jubril - 13 games and counting. Look what happened to Max - 0 games and counting.

Deny, deny, deny.

Valpo track team members who are charged with under-age drinking have to miss one meet.  Don't ask me how I know this....

Speaking of attendance, sometimes a decent halftime show might attract some additional fans (not students anyway). The Jesse White Tumblers, a frisbee dog, a guy on a unicycle. Those are things that have been done in the past.

This year's halftimes have been lame. Almost as bad as the Family Express commercials. I love Family Express, but the commercials make me NOT want to go there.

All I've seen recently is a two-minute routine by the Crusaderettes, and then the clock just ticks down until the teams come back out to warm up. A few games have featured Boone Grove or Chesterton kids scrimmaging.

I'm sure whoever used to be in charge probably doesn't work there any more. If there has been a replacement, that person needs to figure things out.
Aside from the product on the court, Valpo games tend to lack a certain sense of legitimacy for D1 standards. It's not just the gym (this has been discussed to death), but things like the player intros where the student ticket staff has to run to the corners to move the spot lights back and forth.

The new scoreboard helps things, but the atmosphere could be drastically improved by adding an MC, some cool lights, a mascot that can backflip, etc.

Way off topic.

Underage drinking is a crime. I understand that. But VUPDs lengthy tradition of full on arrests and transportation to Porter County Jail is a bit much. When I was at Vu they would go so far as to pull over the student escort van to breathalyze everyone. I personally witnessed two male students taken from their dorm room where they were drinking and arrested. Other schools will make offending students attend a couple of meetings and/or write a report.

Now it's possible (looks likely) that they were off campus partying and if you're being stupid doing that you have what's coming. I appreciate this will need to be addressed by the team in terms of a suspension, but it's hard to not be a little pissed when I think of how few Baylor football players were actually suspended over the past few years.

End of rant. (for now)

M

Didn't this happen a few years back to a few of our guys?? I don't want to say names and be wrong, but I believe they got a 2 or 3 game holiday.

Also, Sorrola has been able to legally drink in his country for THREE YEARS. An arrest is assanine. An ARREST!

Yep, along with some FB players.  Happened in the off-season I believe.

Double whammy here though:  underage AND in-season.

Here's another interesting question: What if this happened Saturday night?
He played Sunday.
Hmm.

Musta been Sunday night or he wouldn't have been in uniform and played 22 minutes.

Oh, great. The next thing that will happen is the university will ask the NCAA for clarification about whether he should have played Sunday, and hold him out until they get an answer. We may see J again sometime in December.
