Hey, I remember a few years ago we played the Capital (ELCA) University from Bexley, Ohio... those purple Crusaders... 4 months later, my daughter enrolled there...

More Macro Fun... on a Micro Level.

Valpo in the HL.   This is our 6th season.  We've played 93 Regular Season games.... 52-41 record in those games.  We are 31-16 at home and 21-25 on the road.

We have scored 6,251 points, opponents have scored 6,177 points, a difference of 74 total points.

OK now for the eerie number:  1,209
That is the exact number of points scored in the 2007-08 Horlzon League Regular Season Games by VU
That is the exact number of points scored in the 2007-08 Horlzon League Regular Season Games by VU Opponents
That is the exact number of points scored in the 2009-10 Horizon League Regular Season Games by VU Opponents

the D-1 Record is now 527-529... UWM, UDM and then Wright State to go over the .500 mark.

I like these stats you are coming up with.  Good to see that we have proven a lot of the naysayers incorrect when some thought we would not be able to compete in this league.  We have shown from the start that we could go toe-to-toe with anyone in the HL, barring the one season where two key cogs (Bouchie and Haanpaa) left without much notice.

Ryan had a block in the UIC game - it was obvious but missed in the stats....

(I will just know the official number is one short.)

LaPorteAveApostle

Their official scorer probably went to HS with Harry Bell back in the day ;)

Maybe we should check to see if there is any connection between the stats person and any of these players.....

Joaquim Gomes

When a stat is obviously missed in a game can a player or someone else do anything to have it reviewed?

Ryan's percentage may well come down, but, at the moment, he's 47/100 from 3PT range on the season.  That would be good for #5 all time - better than any of Bryce's season.

good point.  please keep on me about season statistics...mostly been fixated on career because those are easier to see coming, but this is the time of year where we can start to look at the season ones...

"Grafs became the youngest Latvian National Team member. Unfortunately, during four years at Valparaiso University (NCAA), Grafs did not improve his skills much and so far his first three seasons after returning to Europe have been less than impressive."  This comes from wiki

You have to read that whole paragraph. It is purely an assessment of Raitis by one man. It's also poorly written and extremely subjective.

More than 20 years ago now in kindergarten, a tall boy named Raitis met a smaller one named Kristaps and they became fast friends.[citation needed] Since then, the two (Raitis Grafs and Kristaps Valters) have grown to be best friends and teammates on the Latvia national basketball team. As a teenager, Grafs was regarded as one of the best prospects in Europe averaging 13.8 points and 10.5 rebounds at the 1998 U18 European Championship. He posted similar numbers (11.9 ppg and11.0 rpg) at the 1999 World Junior Championship during which he was voted a First Team All-Star. At 16 years 5 months, Grafs became the youngest Latvian National Team member. Unfortunately, during four years at Valparaiso University (NCAA), Grafs did not improve his skills much and so far his first three seasons after returning to Europe have been less than impressive. This year, as he returned to his hometown club ASK Riga, he performed well (10.1 ppg and 5.6 rpg in Baltic league). Grafs is not athletic enough to become a star but he can be a solid back-up center and give his team a good 10–15 minutes per game.

You can rewrite that wikipedia paragraph on Raitis yourself by clicking on the [edit] button next to the paragraph.

By following the references in the wikipedia article on Grafs I found this picture and the teams he has played for since he left Valpo. For a 31 year old Raitis is looking rather young. I guess he always did look younger than his age.

During his career, Graf played in Riga "Broceni", Valparaiso University (NCAA), Ostende 'Telindus' (Belgium) Wroclaw "Slaski" (Poland), BK "Ventspils" ASK Riga, "Šiauliai" (Lithuania), Riga VEF, "Nitra" (Slovakia) and Limassol "Apollon" (Cyprus).

Just a reminder for those who lost too many brain cells last night...drinking to forget the first half and drinking to celebrate the second half... anyway... a few tidbits

Our D-1 Record:   529 wins and 529 losses.  We have never been above 500 since we began as a D-1 Program in 1977... our opponents have still out-scored us, 74,043 to 73,809 (diff:  -234)

Before last night, we were holding our opponents to under 60 points per game.   We have not done that for a full season since 1948-49!  If we can hold Wright State to 46 points or fewer, we will once again be below the 60PPG defense point.

Last night we picked up our 6th Road win of the year.  Going back to the opening of the ARC, we have never won more than 9 Road games in a single season, and we did that once.... 97-98 we went 9-3 on the road.  We have 5 more road games on the regular season schedule.

Since the ARC opened, we have played 382 (70.2% W) games at home, 383 (36.3% W) games on the road and 107 (57% W) neutral sites.

and perhaps the most fun little statistic... The Wright State game will be our 20th game of the year.... going back to 1984, we are 19-7 in the 20th game of the year, including an astounding 12-3 at home.

see y'all tomorrow... bring a friend!

valpotx

Awesome, our first chance in 36 years to be above 0.500 as a program!  We can then say that we are a winning program overall  :)

Blast from the past... Chris Ensminger... still playing ... and starring... in Germany

VERY impressive stat line; played in Euro Challenge Cup on the 15th, 10 pts, 7 rebs in 15 minutes... he was born in 1973...not bad for a 40-Year old!... I still remember his 24-rebound game from '96

How about a weight training workout video with 40 year old Chris Ensminger which includes his brother, Mike.

For those not at the game, we recognized the 1972-73 Team as winners of the conference championship (to the NCAA college division, win over Capital's Crusaders in round 1)... one of the guys on that time....  John Wolfenberg, who is the next person Rowdy passes on the career points list.  and a big thanks to the Vu Archives staff for getting all of those great shots of action from Hilltop.

I'm confused.  You overwrote the _title_ of the previous post, and made this one, but did you update any of the numbers?  At least some of them look like the numbers after the Detroit game.

Maybe it's still a post in progress?

(Yeah, I guess some of them are up to date... but at least Rowdy's single season FT's are the numbers from after Detroit?  He now has the 75 min required for the record book.)

And here's another single season record in progress.

I suppose he's been in the top ten for a while.  But, after tonight, I think KVW's 93 for 148 field goal attempts on the season.  Passing... last year's version of himself for #3 on the all-time chart.  Just a tenth behind Zoran Viskovic.
