Next 8 minutes , we finish 8th in the valley , all 15 players leave. We win the valley in 26-27’ really like Hopoi , a much better glue version of Sepp.

@rezynezy Might be nationwide… both ESPN and Disney plus went out for me on all streams. Not just the Valpo game.

Under 4 , we’re back up to 6th in the valley, I hope we play with aggressive nature , much different look than last year…my stream is good on ESPN+

the bad:

Essentially missed 12 free throws including missed front ends.

offense looks jittery. Younger players look nervous with the ball.

the good:

defense is forcing turnovers. You can tell our length and size at the guard positions is giving them a lot of trouble.

Our offensive problems looks attributable to first D1 game nerves and freshman indecisiveness.

Missed free throws loom large

Better to win ugly than to lose. Let’s hope that’s a real outlier shooting the ball

Never apologize for a win. Learn from it and go to the next one.

JT Pettigrew is the real deal. Top of the scouting report for other teams.

Time to dust of the book of Virgil Sweet.

Lots of ugly numbers, but its game 1. The talent is there. Time to put it together

Wow! Hope our guy didn’t bet the farm! Really ugly, where were guys like Deese? Very scary to say the least.

A lot easier to eat crow on my Valpo -7.5 being free money when they win !

All in all a very ugly win, but nothing I feel like can’t get cleaned up and smoothed out especially when the lineup gets shortened. I doubt we will shoot 50% from the free throw line very often, and i doubt we’ll play in many games with that many fouls.

Really excited by the defensive intensity and talent of this roster. If they can grow on offense, I think theyll be solid.

Less than impressive: Shooting was poor all around: 23% 3-pts; 60% ft; 35% fg. Despite size advantage: out-rebounded 38-41, lost points in the paint 22-24.

More impressive: Overall defense that forced 20 turnovers, including 13 steals

Impressive but expected starters: Barnes with a double-double; Pettigrew with 13 points and 0 turnovers

Surprisingly impressive non-starter: Chaney with well-rounded game of 12 points, 4-4 fts, 2-6 3-pts, and 5 steals

Surprisingly unimpressive starters: Dease and Tupuola 2 pts. each

Summary: A win is a win even when eked out against a pretty poor team, but much improvement needed to compete in the MVC

We played according to plan. Didn’t want show our hand going into Lexington on Friday to surprise #9 Kentucky.

The shooting (free throws woof woof) was bad all the way around and nearly cost us the game.  Way to much one on one tonight, very little scoring in the flow of our offense and the screen/slips to the basket lack the right chemistry between the right two players. The forced turnovers were a plus and so was Chaney's play. Anyone think Eastern will finish in the top half of the OVC? 30-40 point loss at Rupp.

Which team has a higher ceiling? The one we saw in St. Louis last year or this years team?

Team you saw in ST Louis was the ceiling. This team comes in with more overall experience than that team. People are putting too much stock into game 1

It was a win! One of my employees came with me tonight. First time in 6 years that he got to see a win! That being said, I’m very concerned about their shooting. We aren’t going to win very many games with shooting like we saw tonight. I hope that we never shoot that poorly the rest of the season. Shon getting two early fouls likely really messed with the rotation.
