All Wright (Xavier) over Marist. Wright had 14 points, 1 rebound and 3 assists. Including 4 of 5 from three.

Watched Santa Clara demolish Xavier at Xavier yesterday and noticed a kid starting for Santa Clara named Ensminger.  As he is from Germany, no doubt he is the son of Valpo's #2 career rebounder and Hall of Famer, Chris Ensminger.  Also noted the All Wright played 20 minutes and went scoreless.  It appears that Xavier is having some significant issues.

The grass may not be green but his wallet is; collecting 1 million bucks to average 6-2-1 off the bench. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Wright had played pretty well until Santa Clara when he picked up a couple of early fouls and never got going. He's still shooting better than 50% from 3.

@vok22 I believe the rumor is 600K nonetheless, its more cheddar than I'm making this year.

Wright is actually the main reason why I hesitate to believe people will stick to their guns when they say they will not "chase the bag" and "stick to their guns" for all 4-5 years of college basketball.

I would like to disclaim that I am not calling anyone a liar, as I believe people have good intentions when they speak words such as the above. However, life changing money is life changing money.

Wright loved Valpo and his time here. He wanted his picture on the Wall of Legends in Hilltop. If this world was any different, and the portal were still closed, he would be here. However, 700,000 dollars is life changing money. Not just for Wright, but for his family as well. It is difficult, if not illogical, to pass up on that kind of opportunity

I also watched Wake Forest and Cooper’s performance. He missed the first game of the season due to injury. In the second game against Morehead State, he played 13 minutes, scoring 2 points and grabbing 3 rebounds. In the third game (last night) at Michigan, he logged 27 minutes with 8 points and 3 rebounds. He hasn’t started in either game, and given the depth chart, it’s unlikely he will earn a starting role this early in the season.

It’s still early, but there seems to be a consistent trade-off: more financial benefits for players transferring from Valpo, but fewer opportunities on the court. I understand the reasoning behind these decisions and sincerely wish him success moving forward.

Saw a replay on Sportscenter of Cooper hitting a nice jump hook during OT of the Michigan game.

@rezynezy After the last home game last year, I asked All if he planned to return. He told me, “I’ll be back next year—I’m not finished.” I truly believe he loved Valpo and wanted to stay. However, from an 18-year-old’s perspective, that commitment was likely optimistic.

You’re absolutely right—it’s hard to fault players once the transfer portal opens and offers start coming in. Expecting someone to turn down life-changing financial opportunities would be selfish, especially if financial independence is a priority for them.

If I were Wright I would have gone also, it would have been very naive not to. Mid major college basketball is definitely the AAA of D1.  Powell has acknowledged this and so do we. It will also determine the sport in the long term.
