Well, there is hope for Valpo football accolades. USC and former Valpo punter Sam Johnson came through big in the Trojans road game in a blackout against Nebraska. With 3:30 left in the game and SC up 4, Johnson on 4th down punted beautifully to pin the Huskers at the 3 yard line. This punt was critical to prevent Nebraska from a score. Great job Sam, go Crusaders and Fight on!
Valpo was recognized at the game last night as Sam was chilling during the fake punt.

Sam Johnson is having a sensational year like last year and looks to be NFL caliber. It would have been good publicity for Valpo if he got some NIL love and stayed. Ok, now throw the pies at me.
So vs Northwestern USC dressed up a QB with the same #80 and ran him out to "punt". Instead he threw a pass. His # is normally #7. How is this legal.
Nothing was illegal. In college football, many teams have players with the same number. Before the game, USC informed everyone that QB Luke Hoard would wear #80 instead of his usual #7. The rule is that you cannot have two players with the same number. Well Sam Johnson also wears #80 and it confused Northwestern. USC also does not have names on the reverse of the uniform, thus adding to the misidentify.
In reality, Hoard has been wearing #80 for weeks.
The rule is that you cannot have two players with the same number.
I think you mean you cannot have two players with the same number on the field at the same time.
Actually I just read where it is a penalty to use 2 players with same number at the same position which USC did.
Just checked my NCAA book.
From the looks of it, this situation is purely judgement based.
The substitution rule states that a team cannot engage in substitutions desinged to confuse opponents.
However, the jersey number rule is that no 2 players can wear a number on the same down.
So...you decide. In your judgement, is this an unsportsmanlike on the head coach for deceptive substitution
Well, Sam just allowed an Oregon touchdown punting a live driver to a speedster for a quick six.
