Guy like Omar Jackson, on scholarship at Albany, gets playing time (4GP), not good enough for him, hits Valpo, not starting so quits in season. Now he’s in third school in three years, undersized and quit on two coaches. Those kids have no market and just end up at home.
Paic, had scholarship offers last portal , stayed, graduated, captain. Well deserved, Mathis - graduated from Valpo.
A lot of last years roster is in for a wake up call in the portal. D3 or sitting at home
They are getting stomped but Russell is playing OG for Central Michigan in the bowl in Detroit.
The radical notion of staying at a place, improving one's game each year, and building something with your teammates seems to be from a bygone era.
Also, shouldn't the rest of the college experience count for something as well? Quality classes and faculty, living in residence halls on a nice college campus?
It's really a shame.
INCOMING XFER: Issac Tran, 6’1”, 195 Jr., WR, University of Puget Sound (DIII). In 10 games this season caught 84 passes for 1016 yards and 9 TDs. Caught passes for over 100 yards in 5 of 10 games with a game high of 14 catches for 176 yards vs. Whitworth (31-59 loss).
UPS was 1-9 in 2025. Their senior QB threw for almost 3800 yards with 31 TDs against 14 INTs. Offense was not their problem. Based on the points UPS gave up during the season (525), it appears like they only played defense with 9 players 🙄
Our 3 portal guys are from 0-10 D3 Alvernia, 1-9 D3 Pudget Sound, and RB4 at NAIA Marian.
Gone are the days getting players who played in FBS games. At least it appears so
@valpofb16 As a casual football fan who hasn’t followed the conference long, I can’t imagine this is encouraging given the competition Valpo plays with in the PFL? I know it’s a non-scholly conference but how does the caliber of recruits Valpo is bring in compare to other conference foes? I’m not sure I have seen any new additions with offers from other conference schools.
@iyellatgames Your question is the keystone to the recruiting philosophy. It’s laudable to build a program from the ground up over a couple of years. That worked pre-portal, pre-NIL. Talent retention is key. But if the talent that is retained is at a lower level than other schools in our conference, we are gonna stay where we presently are.
it isn't always that bad...look at what IU Coach "Cig" did with "lesser" players...and he is not alone...it happens in basketball also...it sure cannot be worse than what we have had lately in our football program.
New to the portal

Mike Mansaray has declared for the NFL Draft.
Oh the bittersweet joy of losing a player, not to the portal, but to the NFL draft

I thought you were kidding, but apparently not! I've got nothing against the young man. He's got some talent. But NFL talent when he didn't star at the PFL level?
I did look at his VU player bio and saw that this was his 6th year in college. Perhaps he's didn't want to cross the Bluto Blutarsky line and hit seven years.

I mean crazier things have happened. Kyle Monangai was a high round draft pick (albeit out of Rutgers) and he is a star for the bears
Caron Tyler has committed to Jackson State.
All the best to Caron, he got the bad end of the deal from Waddle.
