Before the portal era Donny was the only successful VU xfer, few others played special teams up a level.

Looks like Wade Abrams has played at South Dakota which stinks we could use him, Keyon Turner still getting in games there.

Jamauri Jackson gets pt for Sac State, Brett Gray at WCU and Dom Grguric at bowling green.

Maybe an uptick in recruiting , or more of a dependence on it from larger schools. We could use all of those guys back on the roster

Kaplan at LB is interesting with his exit from Valpo tough kid, could have used him last year when Mikey went down

Mason Kaplan finishes his career playing in the FCS national championship at Illinois State, losing 35-34 in OT against Montana State.  He had a few tackles and a sack!

I saw a few FCS playoff games with ISU involved and I knew his name sounded familiar.

Watched the Championship game.  Great move to change venues from Frisco, Texas to Nashville.  I'm sure some added fans decided to make the trip based solely on location.  ISU travels very well.  Total attendance was 24,105.

On a separate note, why doesn't FBS use the same 24 team format that FCS uses? One more round, many more teams happy and less whining when a team misses out?

IMOP. The FBS will eventually get to the point where their system mimics the FCS system. Each FBS conference gets an auto bid with the top 4 metrically rated conferences getting the bye. That leaves 10 auto bids and 14 at large bids. The hiccup with this however, is timing. How do you slot a tournament this large in without interfering with the NFL playoffs...

It'll probably be 16 next year with a decision on that likely within days and 24 may come to pass within a few years as soon as the money can be sorted out.

However, the complaining about teams missing out won't end no matter how many teams are in the playoffs.

Great year for Mason, bit sad looking back at some of the names Fox brought here. Lot of talent. If we had Fox maybe 10 years earlier before portal was this way VU could have seen some big time success. .500 in PFL play and continually lost big time contributors y/y in the portal
