Given our AD's willingness to fire mediocrity, it seem unfathomable that the women's golf coach is still around. The program is beyond bad. Well into the third and final round of the current tournament, Valpo is, you guessed it, last, the IU Indy by 53 strokes! Even worse, when you look at a program like Evansville, in the middle of the pack, Valpo trailed the Aces by 79 strokes! Beyond repair.
Unfortunately McCoy is the resident pro at Sand Creek. IDK if firing her would mean that Valpo stops using sand Creek, but if so I would keep her around for the sheer fact that Sand Creek is one of the best courses in NWI

Interesting. Probably the deciding factor. Still wonder why she can't seem to find the level of player to make the program at least not an embarrassment.
I’m sure Sand Creek isn’t holding us hostage because of her.The AD hopefully wants to continue ridding the department of awful coaches each year( WBB last year and FB) and will pull the plug after this season .If we could get women’s golf and baseball in a better spot our programs look a little better.
I also see the point of not wanting to go full scorched earth in one year. That would be a really bad look for a department to upend a bunch of coaches all at the same time. I trust Hosmer more than the president. She has some proven success under her belt that the president did not.
Checking into this we finished last every year except the first in the Valley. Sadly we don't even try as hard as we could. The first two tournaments you could play 6 golfers, top 5 score and we have only played 5 despite having 6 on the roster, why.
@azvalpo could have been an injury but that last part of your statement shows the problem. Only 6 on the roster!!! It’s so bad that, I’m not kidding, they were recruiting at the student club involvement fair during the first week of school. Apparently they had a table right next to esports. I don’t know why they only have 6 on the roster, but it’s embarrassing.
I don’t have any concrete evidence for this, but I suspect that a reason they are struggling for people is that perhaps not enough good high school girls want to play college golf. Many large schools’ club teams (not varsity teams) could easily compete in the Valley looking at their scores. These players would be stars compared to our current women’s golf roster, but maybe they don’t want the commitment of a D1 athletic team.
Regardless, having only 6 players on our roster and not even being able to field a full team is a problem. Perhaps the team wouldn’t even exist anymore if the men’s team were not good either.

A look at the current roster tells us something, perhaps. Listed hometowns are Chesterton, Chesterton, Michigan City, Beaver Creek, Ohio, Biloxi, Mississippi, and a Canadian xfer from Lake Superior State — all golfing hotbeds, right? Except for Biloxi, where are the warm weather golfers who play almost year-round? They are out there, but have they been recruited? Our coach has a day job and coaching Valpo appears to be part-time. College coaching effort in individual sports like tennis, golf and bowling is 60+% on recruiting 30% on fine-tuning and developing natural talents, and 10% admin stuff. Is that the current case?
The woes continue. The women just completed a tourney, losing to the winning team by 100 shots! Finished dead last again and this time the teams beating Valpo include a Junior college as well as a community college! Sadly, the men's team has also managed to finish last in their most recent tournament. Yikes!
Can they compete in futility with the women’s hoops team?
