Paul retweeted the 32 different scenarios for today’s games. There are 24 scenarios that we get the 6th seed and only 8 that we get the 7th seed. Looking a little closer, if ISUr and UNI both win, we get 7th seed. If either lose, we are 6th seed. Our Thursday game is either Evansville or ISU.

The ending was especially painful since the defensive alignment in that situation should never allow a half-court pass; with 3 seconds left, the opponent should have to dribble the length of the floor, which is why even during the setup I questioned the defender on the in-bounds line. Also, I felt bad for Brody, who had just hit the go-ahead points and had a chance to block the shooter's path to prevent the final shot by Casey but for some reason backed away at the last second and let him pass, even hindered Sader's coverage a crucial step. Finally, I didn't notice at the time of the shot, but seeing in the replay that it banked into the basket was even more frustrating. In any case, Valpo should win the first round game and hope the team's depth will help avoid too much fatigue in the following rounds.

I like the side of the bracket better on the 6 seed as they are teams Valpo has been able to handle. I was more frustrated with the officiating of the game more than anything. The issues with defense are being cleaned up more and more and I mostly attribute the blows yesterday to the inconsistency of play from the stripes. Lots of improvement defensively since ISU and a week to look over tape.

@rezynezy “lots of improvement defensively”? We let a guy score 37 and by defensive efficency this was our 3rd worst game of the year behind Kentucky and ISUb…

They recently talked about studying the last 4 minutes of the game. I think it is time they study the 4 minutes after they build a lead, especially in 2nd half and routinely let teams back in, instead of putting them away. We need to build a lead against ISU and then put them away early.

It was always going to be this way- will have to play well. Our whole side of the bracket are teams we haven beaten. too bad if we win we get a rested Bradley and Im not thrilled about how well sycamores played today. tickets and room already paid for so lessgo Valpo!

@rezynezy Completely agree. Then let’s look at trends.

5 games since the Illinois State game, average adjusted defensive efficiency = 114.6

5 games before the ISUr game = 106.7

5 games before that = 102.2

Even if you look at trends/5 game chunks, statistically our defense is absolutely not getting better.

Why the delay in announcing the seeds?    It hasn't been on my MVC app even late into the night after games ended.

@realist77 They were likely waiting for the official up to date NET Rankings to come out, even though there would only be minor movement from Sundays results.

I saw a stat that I thought others on this board would find interesting. There were only 22 high major scholarship players who stayed all four or five years at the same school (Big Ten - 10, Big 12 - 5, Big East - 3, ACC - 3, SEC - 1). It is becoming increasingly unlikely for scholarship guys to stay four or more years across ALL levels. Darius DeAveiro (2025 grad) was the last to do it for Valpo.
