0-31 after a 38 loss to the top team in the MVC. Can they pull one off in the tournament, or will this team make history?
History has been made …

I feel bad for these young women. I don't know how things sunk so low as to not produce a single victory, but obviously this cannot continue.
Here’s something we should keep in mind regarding the 0-fer record. Courtney’s non-con schedule included ZERO Non-DI teams. No cream puffs, no warm-ups, no breathers. And then the MVC schedule started. Can you imagine MBB 2025-26 starting out with an all DI non-con? So the record says 0-32, but it is an unfair reflection compared to others, IMO.

While I agree with the premise, the Men's team scheduled 1 non D1 game.
Honestly if we don't schedule at least 1 non D1 and schedule several teams in our NET range then I have a problem.
Starting the season our top 7 from last year either graduated, transferred or were hurt so a bad season was expected though not this bad.
@vulb62 - I agree to a small extent. The D1 opponents they scheduled for the most part were not powerhouse teams, although Iowa State is good and was a payoff game. Based on ratings, the lower end of the MVC is really weak. Valpo should be able to compete and win a few games against the lower end MVC teams - this is not asking much. Let’s be realistic - this is a horrible team and obviously many issues need to be addressed. With scholarship, coaching, etc., $2M was spent with a result of 0-32. These players are full ride scholarship players - very good character, very good students - but the talent level is not there to represent full ride scholarship D1 players. My blame goes to the coaching staff and the Valpo athletic department for lack of proactivity and no urgency in recruiting after Boyd was hired. There are lessons learned here.
I disagree with blaming the coaches and department. Boyd was hired on April 4th. The portal closed on April 22nd. That leaves only 20 days to build a roster. 20 days when most teams have had 2 months (March and April) to recruit talent. Agents and coaches start reaching out the day after you lose your tournament game.
This season was always going to be a wash. How much of a wash you want to call it is up to you. Frankly I am not surprised by a winless season in the NIL era given the previous seasons of Valpo WBB.
You have to be more on the ball during the NIL and transfer protocol era. Last year, the administration likely knew they were going to fire Evans and should have searched earlier for candidates before the firing. Also, several programs at the same level as Valpo go through the firing and hiring, yet you don’t see an 0-32 result. Poor planning and leadership. Hopefully this is lesson learned. It’s embarrassing.
And did I see where Boyd, going into year two, currently has a returning roster that kinda restricts the number of new players she can bring in? I.e., no whole scale rebuild is possible. That’s not a good place to be in to start anew.
Team went 0-32 with a NET rating of -34.6. Only real thing you can compare it to is Carlsons 2010 win season in VU history.
In terms of the coach. She was hire in late true, that as previously said is completely on the AD. 0-32 is a wild spot to be in. To be very frank I imagine if this coach is good , even those who do return will be passed up in playing time by new blood.
Having been on a Carlson team , I do feel for those girls as that type of failure in a season hurts kids, parents, etc.
BUT it is the coaches job to bring in talent. After 0-32 , if Valpo had money and this was about being competitive, the coach would be gone. If it’s for fielding teams for students, then she will be back with maybe a slight uptick in recruiting / NIL budget
@valpofb16 - a little different - these women are getting full scholarships. The university forking out at least $2m overall for a 0-32 record. I have no idea if Boyd is a decent coach, but no one deserves accolades right now.
Don’t get me wrong. I said earlier if I was AD I’d cut bait and start again. Title 9 was 54 years ago and nobody has gone 0-32.
Late start or whatever , still have 12 full ride scholarships and came away 0-32.
Either extremely outmatched coaching or talent wise. Both would fall under the responsibility of the HC and on a larger scale the AD
I don't disagree that there should be criticism. Because there absolutely should be. But calling for a coach/AD's head and not taking any account for the situation in which the season occurred is misguided to say the least. Especially in the era of NIL/portal madness. Womens hoops is a much different market than mens hoops as far as NIL and the portal are concerned.
On another note...Calling for the coach's job is frankly absurd given the situation
Did the team show any signs of improvement at all during the season?
What type of planning went into games?
How did she manage things during games?
Those are things that were in Coach Boyd’s control and she can be fairly judged on.
@rez - no one should get fired. But the coach and AD need to be held accountable, period. They failed miserably, no one should get accolades, but tell that to Valpo athletics. No excuse for an 0-32 season.
