@vu72 I would be interested in hearing the source too, but given that the info that I have is that Murray has an NIL budget 10x the size of ours this year, I would assume this is a fact.

All of the public schools report their NIL and can be found easily. The trick is to look at the NIL of the private schools.

Murray basically has a BE budget in the MVC at this point.

So you all will not approve of my answer.......  What I stated is a FACT but I will not give up the sources.   I did not ask, the information was presented to certain people by certain people.  So again, it is amazing what this staff is doing and the relationships they are building.  I mentioned something previously that I ask you to think about again.  Shon wanted to stay at Valpo, he is now at Murray State.  Why do you think this is?  He received a lot of money, essentially a sizable portion of our entire budget.   It is what it is, let's just enjoy winning while we are doing so!

The coaches made the right choice in letting him go for the bucks when we end up with probably as good a 5 lineup as we had with Shon.  Remember that for all the good defense he played, he had range to three feet.  It will be very interesting how we mix Kai, Carter and the emerging Kobe Walker.

Here's an interesting tidbit! Kai Yu played exactly 1/3 of the minutes Shon played: 24.6 minutes versus 8.2 minutes.  In 24.6 minutes Shon averaged 6.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.  If you triple Kai's production in 8.2 minutes you get 8.1 points and 5.7 boards. The biggest difference is in blocks. Kai had 2 all year.  Triple that and you still aren't close to the 42 Shon had. Rim protection is going to need some help.

Physicality can't be measured via stats and that's where Shon buttered his bread.

This is a great point.  The truth is that we would not have been able to pay Shon anyway so perhaps it really does not matter if we sacrificed offense for D in the Kai Shon swap.  But the staff is very excited to have a center who is a threat to score on the blocks AND if he hits a few 3s, then that totally opens up our offense.  Remember the end of season and post season last year when Shon would set the high ball screen and be used to rotate the ball, the other team had their defender literally in the lane clogging things up for our offense (he went unguarded).  If Kai and Carter are threats to score from perimeter at all (think like Harding at Indiana State who shot like 28% from 3 but had to be accounted for) then it totally opens things up for our dibble penetration and for JT.  Additionally, Kai is a better post scorer than Shon and it will be nice to have another who can catch the ball with his back to the basket and have a chance to do something with it.  Shon was terrific in certain areas and his D will be hard to replicate but it is what it is.

Someone mentioned the the low nil funds and part of me wants to know just how much they spent of the 2 million that was donated earlier this year. To keep the court together. One could argue that it's quite a gamble. If it was a large amount of it.

You gamble the tournament expanding while the going is good. So you could possibly enter your name into the ring for an at-large bid. If those are even going to mid majors at these days

The video that they showed shortly after we received commits to the guys coming back, showed a Kobe Walker that looked like a beast compared Shon. Obviously, Shon was in a position to make some life changing NIL money going into likely his Senior season, but it is possible that Kobe Walker after red-shirting last year may be a better version of Shon.

My thought exactly. We trade Kai for Shon, gain some scoring but lose sheer bulk on the defensive side. If Kobe fills that role and Carter continues and improves his shot blocking (on a block per minute standpoint I believe he was better than Shon) then we will have a more effective post presence for less money!

Freshman centers no matter how talented, always seem to fall short of expectations. Kobe Walker will need to demonstrate defensive maturity and control just to earn the minutes for him to learn how and when to shoot and score. This could and likely will take much of the 26-27 season. Yes, he may be a Shon replacement but probably not for the upcoming season.  Could our 3 man committee of centers still be slightly better than our 25-26 offering? Maybe but it would more likely be in spite of Kobe and not because of Kobe.

These concerns are indeed valid, however, Kobe did redshirt his first year to develop his skills as a 5 man in the MVC. One would hope this has paid dividends considering he had a year to train under Shon and under Shon's coach (whom was with him at SMoWC as well)

The only concern with playing all three is they have different skillsets. Carter has yet to prove he can shoot effectively from outside and is better at running the floor. Kai may be more of an offensive threat and we have no idea what Kobe will offer. Carter and Kai on the floor together might be an interesting tactic in terms of inside presence particularly if there's any outside threat from the two of them.

I can see a world where Carter takes over more FWD duties. In watching some of his old NZNBL games he seems to be more natural at that position

Having 3 centers with greatly different skillsets might be an asset and possibly a large one? By Thanksgiving (6 short months) we should start having a handle on that question.

When Pettigrew is resting or sitting on bench with early fouls I can imagine many minutes when Carter and Kai could be on the floor together. I am also very interested to see how that might function.

Bingo.  Rez just mentioned this in his last post as well.  Carter will play the 4 when JT sits (unless we go small with someone like Sader).  But Carter is that guy, Kobe is viewed as a center period.
