Any guesses??? I’m glad we have a coaching staff that is active on social media. Being antsy to see who commits is way better than constantly being in the dark.

Another boom just dropped by Powell. Rostrer could potentially be filled out today

The anti-boom: Stafford to Southern Illinois. That hurts.

Well that is understandable given the balmy climate in Carbondale.  He left for the money. He was ungrateful for the care given during his injury and fled for the bucks. Hope we kick his a$$.

Its like coach said. Say thank you. Move on. If you want the glass half full, he should be someone who can be scouted on pretty well.

If these players weren't already richly compensated by full-ride scholarships that other students would kill to have, I would be more sympathetic about the NIL cash. But this gravy train is quickly evolving into something that will crash & burn for all but the top revenue-earning D1 schools. For the rest of us, it is an unsustainable model, completely disconnected from the serious higher ed financing challenges facing their universities.

Just look at the MVC. The "top portalers" are mostly a contingent of public schools. Those being ISU, Murray, and UNI. The only private school in the portal win category is Bradley. However, Bradley goes to significant lengths to keep their program at its current status. Some may argue to the detriment of their academic sector. The public schools can sit fat and happy as they dont have to worry about allocation of funding as much. It is an unsustainable model, however it is a model that, as of now, cannot be put into check. Every time there are efforts to reign in the craze. It results in another lawsuit, another injunction, and another additional case added onto the House settlement. We can only pray that the settlement allows for the NCAA to be given the ability to actually make rules rather than have the rules they try to make get broken up in court.

Nothing right now. Will have to wait another day. There are rumors circulating the internet, but until I see it on Paul or Powell's pages, I wouldn't give it any mind

The "check," I'm afraid, will start when a handful of academically oriented, reasonably competitive mid-major schools announce their moves from D1 to D3. And unless the funding picture facing higher ed overall starts to improve (and I doubt it will any time soon), that trickle could become a cascade.

I do see how Coach Powell is pivoting to this newfangled recruiting reality, and he knows talent well enough to adjust his sights as to the type of player who can join the team and produce right away. Whether VU can successfully recruit such players is up in the air right now. But with everyone else in the Valley facing the same or similar situations, it does create a possibility that VU can put together the right group of players for that one magical season and prevail at Arch Madness.

But in terms of what collegiate basketball should be, this still feels more like drafting a new fantasy baseball team from scratch every year.

If you’re interested in hearing reasonable NIL thoughts from a MVC perspective, I suggest watching the “Morning in the Valley” podcast/ video from this morning. He talks about a horrible Jay Bilas NIL take. Start at the 30 minute mark. https://twitter.com/akajeffbidwell/status/1917579803198185685?s=46&t=fQBy6wyBd319kJMo4acd_Q

Bilas has not made an argument yet, that has convinced me this doesn't hurt mid Majors. His latest take, was that the Wichita's, the mid majors are now able to get players that weren't available before NIL and the year Florida Atlantic and SDSU made the final four mid major fans were not complaining. Last year relatively few upsets and he believes one year is not a trend. I do see this as continuing trend, mid majors being cherry picked and fewer Cinderella's in march madness. Will be interested what Jeff Bidwell says. I digress

As of right now he is not committed. To me this reads as a photoshoot until proven otherwise .
