Good for Jeff.  He would have gotten a better offer if he could ever finish a drive, but you can't complain about his ability to get to the FT line!

I know a highlight reel doesn't tell you anything, but since most of us here already subscribe to espn+ for obvious reasons, I would highly recommend checking out the Tauranga Whai games in the NZBL. Hopoi and crew are on ESPN3 regularly and its a good showing of what to expect from the kid

If you wouldn't mind giving us a heads up on the next game that would be much appreciated.  If you have already seen him play, what can we expect from this kid!?

Carter tends to post when the Whai will be on tv on his twitter accounts. You can actually go to the replays on espn and find the games as the NZBL tipoffs arent kind to American bed times(3 am). I am actually quite surprised by how similarly the NZBL teams play compared to the MVC. I wouldn't say its comparable in terms of talent level, but the playstyles are very MVCesque. Hopoi himself is quite the defensive threat in the NZBL and is regularly viewed by casters as a "point of emphasis" for opposing teams. VU also gets regular shout outs FWIW.

I am also fairly certain that ESPN will save broadcasts up to a certain date so if you have some free time at work I would recommend pulling up a Whai cast and getting an opinion for yourselves

The sports castors also regularly interact with various chat methods. The one they have the most interactions with is the TikTok chat. So if you are willing/able to create a tik tok account, the announcer may very well read and respond to your chat during a media break.

Looks like Sepp is off to Cornell per his IG account. This leaves Scroggins and Louth as the last two guys to announce their portal landings. Anyone heard anything?

Seems like practices start Monday/Tuesday for a lot of schools. Curious to see if Hopoi reports or not considering he is currently in the pro ball circuit over in new zealand

Any rumblings for the last roster spot? Figured it’ll be sooner rather than later with most teams reporting within the next week or so.

@regionrat03 I wonder the same thing. I would think by now the transfer portal is watered down? Maybe they leave the spot open, or maybe a late commitment from the H.S. ranks that redshirts. These days however anything is possible as the dust isn’t fully settled.

I wonder if any of the practices will be open to the public.

So, if most Division 1 rosters are set that leaves, according to Verbal Commits, around a 1000 players without a school. A 1000 kids that had a full ride scholarship that now don’t. Every year, I think that this fact will mean that less players will choose to transfer, but every year the number has gone up. Did they not get any suitors? Were they thinking they could get more money somewhere else? I wonder how these kids are feeling?

I've thought that this could factor...the "I now don't have a spot" factor....could calm the transfer pool waters a bit but I think it will take some time for that to establish itself. Plus there's the fight with players who all think they are being disadvantaged in some fashion. I'd bet Cooper Flagg thinks his $28million payday is somehow a negative to him.

It's just nuts.

It must be difficult for kids who were high school stars to come to grips with the fact that their probable ceiling is to be scholarship-worthy depth pieces at a mid-major D1 school. Of course, were they to transfer to D2 or D3, there’s a good possibility that they would be starters — and in the case of D3, likely standouts. But that’s not the dream that many of them have been fed, and the NIL hopes and expectations have raised the stakes to much higher levels.

I also wonder what this game does to young men’s sense of sincerity, posting these all-thanks-to-God memes when they sign and then the I-prayed-over-this-decision memes when they depart a year or two later.

This is devolving into a very unhealthy system of haves vs. have-nots for schools and players alike, without an ounce of loyalty or connection.

To answer the questiopn. Both numbers will continue to climb. Especially when these kids and their families have agents continuing top whisper sweet nothings into their ears about a kid "making the big bucks"
