So, if most Division 1 rosters are set that leaves, according to Verbal Commits, around a 1000 players without a school. A 1000 kids that had a full ride scholarship that now don’t. Every year, I think that this fact will mean that less players will choose to transfer, but every year the number has gone up. Did they not get any suitors? Were they thinking they could get more money somewhere else? I wonder how these kids are feeling?
The presumption here seems to be that all of these athletes wanted to enter the portal. I would imagine that many of them were told that there was no longer a spot for them on the roster, and they should find a new school. We know that there have been such conversations at VU dating back at least to the Drew years. Loyalty is no longer valued in either direction.
In regards to discussions regarding "no longer a spot" or perhaps more aptly "playing time", I will share this story regarding Homer from over 25 years ago. I used to visit Valparaiso annually to recruit and interview seniors for positions at the company I worked for. At each visit, the Office of Career Planning would ask if I wanted to take someone out to lunch and I would do so. After a number of years (and being a good alum), I asked if I coiuld take Homer out to lunch. They tried to arrange it, but he could only meet in the morning - so we met then. Great conversation (only time I ever met Homer). During the conversation, the phone rang and Homer took the call with me in the room. The conversation was in regards to arranging a new international recruit to come to play at Valpo starting in the Fall (this conversation was in early December) and the specifics were on acceptance of international transcripts, arranging course enrollment, etc. Homer hangs up and smiles saying, "well I guess you got some inside information". I responded by saying that I thought he had no scholarships avaiable, to which Homer responded that you sometimes need to talk with some players about their limited opportunities with the team and work to assist them in how best to move forward (at another school).
The incoming player was Raitis Grafs.
It looks like in addition to losing two assistant coaches we have lost the Director of Sports Performance, Seamus Glennon. At least he isn't listed on the coaches page. We added one assistant so maybe he'll stick with who he has assistant wise but I would think a weight trainer would be pretty important going forward.

I'm not seeing anything reported for glennons departure. Where is it listed?

It may be just a different way to report team coaches etc as perhaps this page is now only for direct involvement only in men's basketball as Seamus does show up on the Sports Performance page, but then again, his only sport is listed as Men's Basketball. Who knows!

Only reason I was curious was because he didn't say anything on socials and Paul didn't make a report of it on twitter. Ajay Moye is missing from the basketball page so it does get updated regularly.
A performance lab weight trainer typically isn't a "coach" but an employee of the athletic office as a whole. They do specialize in sports still.
Bumped into Seamus on campus today and I said "there are rumors of your departure on the information superhighway." He responded with "I hope I'm still here, I have a workout scheduled with the new guys tomorrow morning."
He's not going anywhere.
I am always amazed in a good way how quickly people notice things on the website. I just transitioned the MBB roster to 2025-26 on the site this morning since today was the team's first summer workout, and the coaches section pulls from the active roster. Seamus still works at Valpo, I just hadn't initially included S&C when I added the new roster as S&C and athletic training staff reports to an administrator in the department not to the head coach or coaching staff, but seeing that I included him last year, I went ahead and added him to the 2025-26 roster now that this was pointed out.
Nothing better than boots on the ground for information
