No one made a discussion about it so I thought I might as well.
I watched it. Very impressed with Andy. Much stronger communication skills versus Landon. And did you check out the biceps on Mike?
It’s going to be a heavy dose of Mansaray and Mcneeley. Can make the argument that everything outside of those two is a question on roster.
Waddle hinted as such. Run the ball. Run to throw. Play possession offense to limit opponent opportunities. Defense is a complete rebuild
What does a successful season look like record wise? 8-4 is doable, but the defense lost a lot from last year. Also our two buy games at Western, at North Dakota. Do we have a punchers chance in Macomb? Leathernecks were atrocious on D last year.
@burnee77 I would surmise tying or improving the last year conference record would be successful at the bare minimum
last 4 Valpo coaches are 6-40 in year one. 8-4 is unrealistic. 3-9 is basement. I’m thinking maybe we pick off Butler to get to 4-8. If we lose either of first two weeks we are in real trouble
First year Valpo coaches have won 3 conference games in the last 25 years. 55 new players, vast majority freshman.
Not being the bearer of bad news but need to be realistic
That would be the case for any normal football conference. The PFL isn't any normal football conference.
All teams get poached to about the same degree that Valpo does. Sure, there is a new coach, but 2-6 in conference seems like a decent goal to achieve or improve upon

I must be completely misunderstanding this post. Cecchini won 3 PFL games in year 1 and Fox won 4 PFL games in year 1.
Fox went 1-11 in 2019. Cecchini had 4 wins. Two were against William Jewell and Missouri Baptist.
i think 2 conference wins. We beat the revolving door at Stetson and maybe pick off Butler. PFL isn’t as revolving as you think. Lots of 4-5 year guys on the good teams
our RBs are good enough to win a few if the defense is average. If they regress to back half of league (2/11 starters return) 2-10 is our floor, 5–7 is probably the ceiling.

I think you are both a little off. the first years wins for the last four head coaches in 8. Landon 1, Dave 4, Carlson 0 and Adams 3. Those combined for 4 conference game wins. 1 for Landon, 2 for Dave, 0 for Carlson and 1 for Adams.
Did not know Adams won one.
Not saying it’s impossible. But if this staff goes +.500 itll be a very impressive feat

Let me put a little more positive spin on this--just my nature--I have zero idea what talent we actually have--but, granted we do have 31% of the team as true freshman, we also have 22 guys with three years of experience and 11 with four or more. We bring back our starting quarterback and his backup and our top rusher. Just sayin...
Will not know until 2 deep drops. Would love it if you were correct. However Valpo had the worst scoring offense in the PFL. Givens and Coulson are gone, are 3/5 OL including LT and C. No proven FCS talent came in at WR or OL. So everything will be a question until we see how internal development / D3 talent translates.
in terms of QB last season. Caron did exciting things but was running for his life consistently. His top WRs and TE are gone. He also struggled throwing the football. Marietta ran very similar to a Will Fleming offense. The QB needs to be able to set and throw.
Talent wise RB is the only position group that is above average in the PFL, maybe on the team. Mansaray should be a very solid player but had 400 less yards than Dawson / Washington. McNeeleys Wyoming film looked great but that was 2 full years ago and 2 knee injuries ago
DB is the strength of the returning defense which is Johnson and Lendino, another spot starter who made plays. OC Nurse is a D3 transfer but quite a bit smaller than Geiman. Other corner is a complete question mark.
Linebacker we lost our top 5 producers and keep Samuel who gained 20 lbs. We add a juco LB but outside of that there is little to 0 experience at the position group.
Defensive line we graduated 3 all conference players. We have the two guys that split time at nose and the players behind are quite a bit smaller. We did add Jacardon Hardeman who should be a nice PFL level 3tech
I do think there is some real talent at RB, DB , and WR in this freshman class
I’m all for optimism and hoping for 4-6wins which would be improvement. 8 just isn’t happening barring some unprecedented internal growth
I will say we now have an OL with the greatest name in the entire PFL! Billy Jack McCool, was the Wyoming 2A Lineman of the Year. Listed at 6'3" 295#!

To add even more history, not since 1968 has any Valpo HFBC won 3 or more conference games in their first year at Valpo. That was Norm Amundsen who won 4 along with the ICC Championship in 1968.
