Why are there no box scores for the exhibition games?
Its largely because these games don't count and the stats don't count. The stats for EXE games don't count towards player stats, team stats, record, ect ect...
They arent streamed for similar reasons as well. ESPN probably doesn't see a whole lot of reason to spend the time and money allocating its service for games that dont count. Hence why only the in house radio network (WVUR) is the only way to get live updates
Right Rez, but I understand the point here. So many other exhibitions have stats posted, WBB’s first opponent DePaul has a box score on their website of a close win vs. Milwaukee. Purdue has a box score of their loss vs. Kentucky posted. The in-house media and TVB got full box scores - they are kept just like a regular season game. I assume this comes from an old tradition of not helping teams scout, but that is long past now.
The school does use a 3rd party for box scores and live stats right? Dunno if there is a price per game for tracking and whatnot. Other than that the only thing i can say is that tracking stats that ultimately dont matter is purely the preference of the school.
@rezynezy they do, and they used that for stats during the game (both exhibitions actually), and so they have the data there just choose not to publish it
I'll chime in here to clarify since this is related to my area. We do not use a third party for box scores and live stats. Stats for all of our home athletic events are done by Aaron and me. We feed the stats to ESPN.com (as well as the video board, StatBroadcast live stats, our app, the NCAA, our ESPN+ crew, etc.), not the other way around. Yes, we kept the stats from the exhibition games and elected not to publish them publicly. For our men's team, we have 17 players listed on the roster most of which were not on the team last year, so in theory it will make it slightly more difficult for Eastern Illinois' coaching staff to prepare a scouting report and prep their players for the game with no frame of reference on who will start or be in the rotation. Although the impact is probably minimal, you never know when that could be the difference in a game and we're all about helping set up Valpo victories! EIU did not have any open exhibition games with stats posted on their website either. Hopefully that makes sense, and hope to see everyone at the ARC on Tuesday!
For anyone not paying attention at this point, please understand all the rolls Brandon and Aaron provide to Valpo and how blessed we are to have them on the staff. Thank them when you see them. Other schools are jealous to be sure!
All good, I did not take it that way at all, just wanted to provide some behind-the-scenes info to help answer the original question!
I by no means meant to undermine the work you do

They sound delicious!
