Two good things regarding Valpo that I recently saw

1. The university has restarted a program where it enlists alumni to help with student recruiting. If you sign up for it, a representative from the university interviews you (for 30 minutes) regarding where and how you can contribute (based not lonly on your location, but also your interests, time, and connection to Valpo). Further, they have distinct processes for the ways you could contribute. I signed up and was interviewed last week...and was impressed. I did find that this was done prior to COVID, but never restarted after COVID. I was also impressed with the recent graduate who was hired to manage this.

2. Clothing available for purchase. I went online to see if there were some shirts or sweaters for my wife and I. It seems much improved. First, there was a much greater selection. Second, for many items you could choose the Valpo logo and its placement on your clothes. Ordered a few items and the service/delivery was good.

Can confirm clothing options have expanded. Was able to purchase quite a few items for myself and family

Glad to hear that spirit wear is better.  Missed a "golden" opportunity when we rebranded as "Beacons" to get rid of the brown, and move to black and gold.

I never had a problem with brown, why not be something a little different. But then my high school colors were Orange and Brown.

Purdue (🤮) is just up the road and has the regional market cornered on black and gold. Old Gold and Royal Brown for me, please.

Dark maroon would be an easy fix and feel pretty close to prior color identity. You could pair that with re-launch of a dignified helmeted Crusader mascot in a fitting way.

No more dogs or any Disney animated version of a "fighting" Crusader. Do it all in one step to make a statement to make a very public statement that we won't cower in the face of woke ideology. Put a stake in that vampire while the tide is turning abruptly in 2025-2028.

Realist - Was with you up until you brought in politics. Let's continue to avoid politics on this forum.

@vu84v2 - I agree about bagging the politics, but Valpo caved to enable overall warm fuzziness that has not been benefitted the school. Getting rid of the mascots as an executive order to start the new year would be beautiful.

usc4valpo - The new President needs to utilize his time and political capital (with the board, faculty, other stakeholders) on far more important things.

Another good thing I heard about at Valpo. The College of Engineering raised money for and is building a new (small) annex to house larger student projects. As I have said before, Doug Tougaw is a great champion for the College, the University, and students.

VU probably does need to stick with brown and gold, if Purdue has already got black and gold. For a variety of legacy and familiarity reasons, it's probably best to stick with the classic colors to retain alumni sense of connection etc.

Nonetheless, I do have stuck in my head the reaction of my oldest kid when I first took the Valpo job many years ago. My then 2 or 3 yr old went, "It's poop and pee colors!" Sigh. Once you have that in your head, it doesn't really matter if it's the crusader's or the dogs' poop and pee.

Politics withdrawn.

I do think bathroom color issue is real. You will note that Western Michigan uses brown but at least they tone down and darken to more metallic and dark color shades of brown and gold.

Much better for Valpo would be to use dark maroon and a bronzed shade of gold. Put those colors on a Crusader and you will gain some actual dignity as well as boldness.  Fluffy dogs don't inspire me.

I graduated in 1981, I have been a supporter ever since. Basically everyone who knows me knows I went to Valpo. Never, not once, has anyone mentioned our colors to me.

The only time anyone has ever mentioned colors from my 21 years as a valpo fan has been the incels over on MVCFans.
