Murray State playing in the deciding game to make the baseball super-regional and leads 5-0 in the 3rd. Pretty great accomplishment just to make it to this game (as a #4 seed in the four team regional)...even greater if they win today.
Murray holds on for a 12–11 win and moves on to play Duke! We are really bad at baseball. Go Valley!
Almost blew a 12-3 lead in the last three innings, but a great accomplishment for Murray. Beat 10th ranked Ole Miss twice on their home field to win the regional.
Murray is for real! Deep lineup, lots of power. Wright State eliminated top seed Vanderbilt. Mid-major baseball is for real. Just not in Valpo. The level of play shown by these teams versus our "situation" is embarrassing.
Murray State wins 5-4 and advances to the College World Series. Incredible ending. First MVC team to make the College World Series since 2003.
Baseball is definitely a sport that Valpo can have success, as demonstrated by Evansville and Murray State in the last few seasons. It is a sport that you can take down the big boys, if you have a good day, while the other team struggles.
And it ends for Murray in historic fashion. Arkansas pitcher Gage Wood records the 3rd ever no no in the college world series. He also takes the record for most strikeouts in a 9 inning game at the college level. What kept him from a perfect game. A HBP on a curveball that hit the toe of a Murray State batter.
Rumor has it Dan Skirka is going to stay at Murray. Reports have that he is being signed to the "highest paid baseball deal in the MVC" and it is well deserved
It will be interesting to see if they invest in their facilities for Baseball, as their field/stadium received a lot of attention for being pretty crappy, tied to a team that made the CWS.
@valpotx just goes to show that you don't need much to build a baseball team. From what I saw Murray was a Bring Your Own Lawnchair field until recently when they constructed their grandstand
