We have a small thread of optimism amongst our die hards after the win in Des Moines. Powell's system starts to look even better with a win in Bloomington. Keys, rebounding, free throws and one of our players needs to get hot from beyond the arc.

Illinois State is perhaps the Jekyll and Hyde of the Valley. They are at 8-6, we are at 7-7. They were picked first and we were picked last. They still need to play at Belmont and Murray and we don't. They split with SIU, so did we. They lost to last place Evansville and beat Murray. It's anybody's game--just who has their stuff together the most or perhaps who gets or doesn't get into foul trouble. I'll take Valpo, 68-64.

They looked tired on defense as Redbirds scored at will in the paint. I hate to say it, but we are a better team trying to grind things in the half court set even though it's not as fun to watch, the pace played right into ISU's hands. Maybe they were more motivated after a bad loss at Evansville. 17-17 from the foul line!
Not surprised that we lost but I wasn't expecting to get routed in the small ball game. Nice to see Barnes again but his addition for defense didn't help.

Absolutely. What happened at halftime? In the first half Valpo shot (45%) from the field but only 30% in the second half (11-37), while Illinois State shot 60% in the second half (19-32). Yes, Valpo had 5 more shots but made 8 fewer baskets, and this happened with Chase Walker out for the whole second half! No grit, all quit, especially with defense allowing 52 points in the second half. We should see an angry team show up for the tipoff on Sunday.
