Can the Beacons find some offense, or is this another painful game? I’ll be in the ARC for this one….. If I can get about 30 miles through the snow!
It’s not often that noncon games mean much, but this one is pivotal. If the lack of offensive discipline, poor shot selection and the failure to push the ball down low to our bigs continues we are in for another poor year.
Owen Dease 25, Broncos 10
Rakim seems to have disappeared these last two games.
All I can say is this game has been refreshing.
Who are these guys that are shooting so well, blocking shots, and leading by 30 points?
Way to turn it around, beacons. Way smarter shots this time around.
Our bigs, Shon and Carter, gave us great rebounding (Shon - 9) and blocks (Carter - 4). Easily both game bests.
Carter is a freshman, and is developing his O game, but statistics-wise he’s a highly motivated defender inside. I still think he and Shon should be on the court together much more to establish a solid wall down low.
Better shot selections today and Western is a really bad team. Good to see what Brown is capable of offensively and I would continue to start Whitaker. We have a pretty balanced team offensively if we work as a team get those mid range shots off curls with Barnes, Whitaker, Brown, Chaney. Your best shooters are Chaney, Dease and Whitaker. Brown could be in that convo but I need to see more than one good game. Our scoring in the post will be by committee. Don't have a true dominant scoring option.
Learn from your mistakes and improve. That's all you can ask.
Hats off to the team for taking the L on Wednesday and learning from their mistakes. Find the shots down low and this team could be competitive in valley play.
The best part of this game wasnt the final score, but the fact that the guys we have been looking for to prove themselves proved themselves today. Was a pretty decent crowd for a whiteout snowstorm all things considered.
Rakim seems to have disappeared these last two games.
Rakim is seemingly getting limited minutes due to the injury he suffered on Wednesday.
It was a bit dicey coming home but glad we decided to go after seeing a good team performance. The picture is on 30 east out of Valpo on our egress. We struggled to finish at the rim early on but they were trying. I felt like we were running an actionable offense set which helped the outside shooting flow. Good to see the shooting showed back up to be honest. Good to see Brown get a positive offensive game, he needed that. Western Michigan is a bad team but getting back into the win column is the most important aspect. If we can play like tonight and start executing at the rim we can be competitive in conference play. On to the next one!
Wonder how Rez feels with our three leading scorers from……. The transfer portal

Wonder how fb feels when they didn't have....
Instant success...
In fact. The most successful player on the roster has been a true freshman. Just like it was a true freshman last year, and the year before that. You could argue that they came in with experience playing in the prep ball circuit beforr coming to Valpo, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they were not portal adds. They were home grown.
You are being a child. And all because I said I thought fox wasn't a good coach...but I guess thinking fox was a bad coach makes me a bad fan right?
Drake had "instant success" last year? Well guess where the guys who played came from? The same team that the coach came from in D2. Ive said this before, but you could have some of the best of the best basketball players in the world on a team, but you would be surprised as to the outcome of the game if they played a team of avg joes who have been playing with each other for a few seasons and the elites only had a few months of work with each other
My point being that the portal works both ways. Valparaiso’s best players have been taken and received. Some coaches are able to navigate it and bring instant success others have not. Some have found diamonds in the rough to be immediately taken by other coaches. It’s just a part of College Athletics now. Has nothing to do with fan ties. Quite literally the ones able to navigate it are able to produce results. It’s modern recruiting
