So far Murray, Belmont, and UNI have opted in
Indiana State, Valpo have opted out
Those are the only ones that have anything confirmed from what I could find
I was told Bradley is opting in as well.
I am lost - what does it mean by “opting in” vs. “opting out?”

"Opting in" means that the school will participate in revenue sharing and helping fund the $2.8B in backpay from the NCAA to former student athletes, among other items
"Opting out" means that a school will not be involved in revenue sharing
Valpo doesn't have a choice here, but this will not help competitively.
@crusadersforever - thanks for the simple, effective explanation, and Valpo has no choice but to opt out.

Correct. I'm not sure *where* the money is coming from for other MVC schools to opt in, but it certainly isn't there for VU.
You guys have studied this a lot is seems. Does this potentially lead to Valpo being dropped from the MVC? Has Bradley or Evansville "opted in." They have big financial issues too.

Well now with the house settlement being locked up in the courts again everything is up in the air. There is no info on any other programs besides the ones above who have either opted in or out. I would assume the big MVFC schools will likely try to opt. I don't have anything confirmed, but it's on food authority that ILSU ends up opting in. I don't think this means Valpo leaves. It would take Evansville leaving for Valpo to leave given the similar situations the schools are in. Bradley is a 50/50 shot on opting in vs opting out. Their academic sector is atrocious, but they could be able to benefit from opting in given they don't sponsor football.
Reading a bit more into the settlement....apparently $2.4billion was set aside for men's sports and $102 million for women's sports.
What could those in agreement, including the judge, possibly be thinking would happen?
My guess is we are well away from this situation moving forward all or in part.

The court set a dangerous precedent when they decided that anyone could sue the NCAA and would likely get their grievance passed without a second look. It will be very difficult to take that precedent away
On another note. HIGHLY recommend listening to Jeff Bidwell and his Morning in the Valley show. He goes into detail today about the settlement

Bradley is opting IN. They believe they can play fantasy basketball. I heard at least 1 baseball player transferred from Bradley "opting in" to Valpo "opting out"
I have heard other players from various sports have transferred from "opting IN" schools to Valpo. Our family knows two families that had athletes at SEC schools, both cut. 1 choose to stay and give it up, the other transferred to a D2 to keep playing.
Opting is a bad decision for most, we already see staff getting cut, players and even whole sports. I think it will take a few years to see the ramifications, but its not going to be good for many schools.
I dont see Valpo getting dropped from MVC and think they will be competitive in many sports including basketball. "Opt in" doesnt mean they have a lot of money to revenue share with, I dont see these MVC schools paying as much as people think.
Sounds like a lot of the MVC decisions based around opting in and opting out are based on roster limits and enrollment. Makes sense why Valpo is not opting in. SIU has also officially opted in. Here’s a YouTube video of the MVC commissioner talking about the house settlement.
Jeff Jackson in one very impressive guy! I don't think Valpo has officially opted in or out but most likely will be out. Just a brief shoutout to Valpo as Commissioner Jackson mentioned revenue coming to The Valley both from wins as well as "some of it comes from academic performance" which I'm sure school like Valpo affects in a positive fashion.
It seems now that Valpo and ISU are the only teams still opted out in the MVC. There is rumor that ISU will flip their decision before July 1 however.
I believe this is now 16. However, I could be wrong. I am now assuming that it is confirmed that Valpo is NOT opting into rev sharing this year in order to exceed the roster limit.

Paul had this guy included in his latest roster breakdown of 13 scholarships and 3 walk-ons.
