Rakim Chaney is terrific. What a find by Roger Powell. He's a lot of fun to watch. Another nice win for Valpo tonight. Let's keep it going! Couple of more good opportunities coming up back at the ARC.
An amazing 90-75 smashdown. Three Beacons over 20 points.
To be honest with you, I didn't think we were capable of a double-digit win on the road against a D-I opponent. Glad to be wrong, though. Wish we could shoot like that every night. When was the last time we put up 90+ against a D-I team in reg?
4-1 feels amazing. What a big win on the road, against an old Horizon League foe, and down 3 rotational players. Metrics won’t take into consideration that we could’ve won by more than 20, but this game certainly will help. Having depth rocks.
It was nice to hear the announcers talk about VU's size advantage so often. I hope nobody was playing a drinking game and taking a shot each time Valpo's height was mentioned! Last year, we were the undersized team that Cleveland State was tonight. Also, good to see the game turnovers kept under 10 again.
Commanding win for Valpo in a game where Cleveland State never stood a chance. Seems the guys have found their offense
Solid win by the Beacons while playing three short on the normal rotation. Bound to get some attention!
Funny to me how preseason player analysis can be quickly reversed as in Rakim not mentioned significantly while other freshman were getting the bulk of the press. Long way to go though.
That first half versus Bryant????? Shon has been a pleasant surprise offensively. Justice came out of hibernation. If not injured, a motivational tactic?. CSU's defense is rancid and we have plenty to fix as well on dribble drive penetration. I'm starting to see a much higher ceiling with this team more than last year.
I think we scored over 90 in that Indiana State double OT game last year. Strong possibility we break 1,300 in attendance at our next home game. Hah
Our mutual foes the Loyola Ramblers only beat these guys by three in Chicago the other week.
This was a great road win where we were dominant throughout. The road win result moved us up 38 spots in the KenPom rankings tonight.
Nice to see Valpo put it on a team they should. Those have really been lacking.
One thing that is going to prove useful is just how well this team seems to rebound. MVC has had a few teams be completely lackluster on that end
Great complete game last night. Getting a win on the road will do a lot for our momentum hopefully. We have had shooting concerns early in the year but over the last 1.5 games we have proved we can shoot the % we need to win MVC ballgames. The offense is starting flow and click better. Justice played great, when he gets minutes he has produced both defensively and offensively. I really like him off the ball complementary to Chaney. I would like to see us utilize that combo more moving forward; as I have maintained he seems underutilized in some of the games this year assuming he was healthy. Shon continues to improve and when he goes into beast mode he becomes an handful. Chaney has just been on fire, his composure and patience for a freshman is key to this teams success. It was great to see the team embrace the next man up mentality with a few of the guys under the weather. Really hoping we get some more butts in the seats as we are playing good and have a couple winnable holiday games in the ARC coming up! Our team is coming together and I really think we have a good chance to be competitive as we move through the schedule.
I really enjoy seeing our guys celebrate after EVERY win. It makes winning more fun and it creates additional motivation for our players to make it across the finish line at the end of the game. I’m happy that Justus got the grit award last night. I’m sure his leadership has made a huge impact on transitioning one team to the next in the Powell era. It feels like the tides are continuing to turn in the right direction.
Powell is doing a decent job coaching this team, getting decent recruits and getting buy in.
