Ive been nerding out on valley basketball this pre conference season... kind of inclined to think overall its a little down and we can get anybody on a given night...
@valpodad I have watched a lot of the Valley this non-conference season as well. I tend to agree the upper teams in the Valley are down. I currently think Northern Iowa and Belmont are the two top teams at the moment. Come Valley play when all of the teams have more time to build chemistry and experience the difference from top to bottom looks like it will be a much smaller gap. Valpo was picked 10th or 11th in the preseason projections, I could see a scenario where this team finishes in the top half of the Valley. It is still really hard to tell, and this is normally the point in the season where I am most encouraged, so I have to temper my inner expectations
.
Over under 1350 attendance today? Valpo -10.5 Over under 150
@burnee77 I honestly think you hit the attendance number on the head here. I'm an optimistic fan, so I'll take the over. I have started to share the game alert promos on my local community page to increase public view in hopes 1 or 2 people see it and decide to attend. That's not going to move the needle much I know but at least makes me feel like I'm helping. I'll take over on the -10.5 and under on the 150 total.
For anyone interested here is the KenPom subscription information on USI!
The mezz seems to have a lot of bookings. I'll take the over on attendance
They better not lose in front of all of those kids.
Unfortunately, the non contact injury to McNair reads like ACL or Achilles issue.
25 minutes into the game and we haven’t come to play. Terrible
This is painful. Brown can’t shoot and has not been an effective PG. we also can’t keep missing so many layups, and obviously the 3 pt shooting is an issue AGAIN
No one from valpo is in double figures. This sort of performance is not going to help attendance, which does look better today
Mark Brown Jr is not a Division 1 basketball player.
Hard to think of a worse regular season loss in recent years. Absolutely awful. It’s well past time to question Powell’s offensive scheme.
Good god. I don't know whether Powell just can't draw up an offensive flow or the players don't listen to him but why come out shooting three's and why do players around the basket somehow turn what should be easy shots into impossible angles.
Shot 35% on 2 pointers.
Terrible. No other word for it.

Listening to the presser. It seems the team didnt stick to the script. When the team was on script. It worked
How to not build on momentum. Lay an egg like today. Very lackluster effort, unforced turnovers. To many of the wrong people shooting the wrong shots from three. Maybe we should have pressed, sped them up? Start Whitatker as he could be the guy to settle the team down and get them organized. Team still searching for offensive chemistry as it's just individuals scoring as opposed to scoring with in the offense. So far Cleveland State game was an outlier. Powell for sure can recruit as well or better than lottich, but the X's and O's? Are we way better?
Despite the poor shooting this game was very winnable. USI had one capable scorer and our guards on defense didn't recognize soon enough in the first half. To many open looks. Will be interesting to see how the team responds on Saturday, as Western M is hott trash, right now we are just a step above that.
