Home Run? What!?!?
The Valpo play to a "T".
Cooper played 21 minutes and managed to somehow take 1 shot which he missed.
All Wright scored 17 for Xavier vs Georgia...a one point loss for Xavier. Still the same guy. Not efficient on the shots.
Here is a snapshot of the transfers so far. These stats may be a game or two off based on recent performances.

Thanks for the update. Nice to see that all but three are getting 20+ minutes of playing time. When you see a list like that it really brings home how significant the exit was. And it also drives home the fact that VU has started this next season, with a whole new cast, 4-1.
Just checked the Western Illinois FB results for the season. It was another losing season. WIU, not unusually, gave up quite a few points in the early games, but unlike 2024 when the PA started mounting (e.g., 50+) as the season rolled to an end, just the opposite occurred this year. Coach Fox’s D got tighter and tighter. They lost, but the losses were much closer in each game. And the points given up were significantly lower allowing WIU to challenge into the 4th quarter. Looks like he’s got his D cooking. Next: more talent to fill holes and bolster his system. Hopefully the HC is still around in 26+ to enjoy what Landon can give him.
Watching S. Illinois losing to High Point. Isaiah Stanford is coming off the bench, starting 4 of 8 for the currently 4-4 Salukis. He is shooting 15 percent from the 3 and 8ppg.
HEAD SCRATCHER ??
Western Michigan was up 22 points on Southern Indiana University. 88-74 was the final score. 🤔
we really 💩‘ed the bed versus USI.
Jerome Palm is still paying at UMKC, as well. Final season, after playing at Hawaii last season. The only fun part of this whole new era of year-by-year new rosters, is seeing where our former players land, and how they perform
All Wright at Xavier averaging 10.7 per game and shooting 49% from 3.
Cooper Schweiger's minutes are down by about a third as is his production. Averaging under 4pts per game with a couple of 'bounds.
Sheldon Edwards averaging 13 points per game and shooting 40 percent from three point range for Texas in the G-League. That surprises me!
It was the battler of the Schwiegers this weekend. Cooper played just 11 minutes, scored 3 pts on 1-2 shooting and 1-1 from the stripe. Carson scored 8 pts in 26 minutes of action, going 2-10 from beyond the arc (yikes), and 1-1 from 2pt range while going 0-1 from the stripe. Wake Forest got the dub 111-73!
College basketball is a game of transfers. Let’s dive into the decision to transfer a bit deeper for a few of our guys from last year that transferred up. I am very cognizant of the money aspect that played into their decisions and rightfully so. With each of these two guys, a tradeoff is proving out so far early in the season to varying degrees. This is just a snapshot in time and long-term performance will need to play out. I do however think there is some weight to think about for transfers moving on from Valpo that current players can reflect on if they value basketball opportunity at all comparative to money.
Cooper Schwieger transferred way up to (42) Wake Forest of the ACC. The ACC currently sits at the 4th best conference metrically 5 spots ahead of the Valley. Coopers’ production at Valpo included playing 82.2% of available minutes contributing on 23.3% of possessions and taking 24.1% of the team’s shots. He was a high usage guy at Valpo and received a lot of praise and notoriety in the Valley. Transferring to WF his usage has declined significantly, playing only 39.1% of the available minutes and contributing on 9.7% of the possessions, taking 10.9% of the shots. Cooper has been a more efficient player at WF however. His 3pt% is at 40% in a much smaller sample size, he is shooting a bit better from 2pt range, has a better block % over last year but just doesn’t get the same number of opportunities so metrically he is way down on a per game basis. He is averaging 17 minutes a game with 3.8 pts and 2.2 rebounds this year compared to 32.7 minutes a game 15.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg last year in a Valpo uniform. He is buried on the scouting report at WF and would likely be all conference at Valpo. He lacks opportunities at WF compared to Valpo as it pertains to strictly basketball.
All Wright transferred up to (85) Xavier of the Big East. The Big East is the 5th ranked conference 4 spots ahead of the Valley. All has faired better in the transfer performance market than Cooper but there is still a drop in overall opportunity, all be it less significantly. So far, his usage is down from 74% of available minute last year to playing 66.8% of minutes this year. He was utilized in 27.1% of the possessions last year compared to 15.6% this year at Xavier, he took a staggering 30.9% of the shots at Valpo compared to 18.9 for Xavier. Overall, like Cooper he is more efficient so far this year than last. His 3pt shooting is great this year shooting 48.9% with decent volume and shooting 44.2% from 2pt range, a few ticks better than last year. He has improved his turnover rate and effective FG% overall. He hasn’t had the scoring consistency and break outs this year nearly as much as the second half of last year but overall, he has been good for Xavier. He is averaging 26.6 minutes, 10.7 ppg, 0.5 turnovers this season compared to 29.6 minutes per game, 15.5 ppg, and 1.4 TOs last year at Valpo where he was really featured in the second half of the season.
Both of these guys are just entering the conference part of the schedule. The conference schedule is more demanding for both of these players compared to their non-conference competition. It will be interesting to run these numbers once the season is over to see how the opportunity and production fluctuate. All transferred to a team where his opportunity was probably better translation, especially when you factor in that Pozzato (U of E transfer) got hurt and has been out so far this season for Xavier.
There are 19 former Valparaiso men's basketball players still playing Division I basketball. Here's how they're doing this year...

@thevictorybell It was a really good read. I recommend everyone read it to get a true perspective on where all these guys have found new, albeit mostly temporary, homes. Some (most ?) of the guys are out-performing their Valpo stats. But one thing that kinda jumped out at me was, though they are doing better, most are playing at lower DI schools and many of those are losing more than winning. Regardless, I guess if your minutes are significantly increased, that’s enough personally to offset the bummer of losing games.
In some coach related news. Scott Drew has just picked up a new center.....who was the 31st overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft and played NBA summer league
