I still can’t believe how fortunate Evans has a job as Valpo looks for a new AD. Very sad to see this commitment to assume not to succeed.
Agreed on the 5 out not being successful. At some point, you have to reimagine your offensive mindset, if you can't recruit kids that can hit wide open 3s.
The new guard signee is interesting though certainly there are red flags...3rd school in 3 years, ACL injury. However, she was a top 25 PG recruit in high school. Given that we only have one ball handler returning this seems like a smart risk.
Evans phased Raye Redmond (Redmond Raye, can't remember) as the year progressed. She makes things happen good and bad, lots of steals but 7% from 3 and under 40% for FT makes it hard to play her Hopefully she is shooting every day.
We also signed a mystery PG from Israel.
Someone needs to step up.
The one who needs to step up is the Acting Athletic Director who should get a new Women's b-ball Coach. However I guess the Acting A D really is not in a position to make a change at this time.
Women's team has jumped into the transfer portal:
Bella Swedlund 5-6 PG redshirted at Kansas, injured and missed all of last year. I have seen FR and SO. She was ranking as the 25th best PG her senior year of HS.
Maci Rhodes 5-11 JR SG transfer from Radford 46 games played 3.3 PPG, but a 40% 3 point shooter.
Fiona Connolly 5-8 JR PG transfer from LaSalle, 56 games played 1.1 PPG
Hopefully we are not going to rely on the 5 out offense again. There is a certain point where you need to realize that it isn't working, and you need some rebounders outside of Earnest.
Let’s face it - this program has zero commitment to success and an absolute joke. The university with all the other recent priorities is letting this train wreck go. Everybody is happy, They love their coach, why change?
I am pretty sure Evans is a one trick pony so I expect the usual. We did add 6-2 wing early hopefully she can also play inside.
Maybe we will be playing a new style of offense this year ;that uses 5 small guards playing keep-a-way out beyond the 3-pointe line. This program is a joke and an embarrassment!
Top Assistant Emily Hays just announced a move to EMU.
Has anyone addressed the situation?
For those of you who might want to get a better understanding of who the new Women's coach is, watch Morning in the Valley' interview with Courtney Boyd. Very impressive!
Feel like she will be very good for the women's program.
One thing I like in this current athletic regime is the standard of community engagement. Multiple coaches have made it clear that community engagement is a forefront. Hosmer and her crew have made it clear that they need to get more involved in the community and get the sense of "College Town" instilled as opposed to "High School Town"
I was curious about her admission that being a coach at the D1 level is a big change versus D2 or NAIA. I caught a D3 team playing a D1 in basketball once and the announcers were pointing out that the D3 coach had one graduate assistant versus a D1 coach with a full compliment.
Courtney said as much when she admitted to needing an adjustment to a full team versus 1 or 2 assistant coaches.
I'm wondering whether or not Andy Waddle might be finding the same adjustment. I looked at Marietta's coaching/staff lineup and it totaled 13. This is versus 16 at Valpo. Probably the bigger adjustment will be short bus rides versus national air travel and accompanying hotel packages etc. together with recruiting on a national level.
