moved to the Big10

Speaking of half full, Valpo, although terrible in baseball, actually took a game from both Ohio State and Illinois last season. The coach needs to go but probably got a reprieve due to other coaches being replaced last year.
Oh, usc, would love to buy you. beer!

62, you may have forgotten about John and the woman’s soccer program. Long standing and successful. Keith Freeman got to the NCAAs a couple of times and was let go. Big mistake. As for other sports, Tennis seems is a good space, the new softball coach can’t do any worse and the new basketball coach seems to have a personality that was missing in her predecessor. I think overall the women’s programs—other than golf, are headed in or on the right path.

Actually soccer has gotten drubbed last 2 years...they had a flash in the pan year a couple years ago but dont see that again...

Tennis seems ok....practice at that place on 49 cant help recruiting

softball who knows

basketball is awful but thats been the norm for years

I ran cross country and track and can tell you the new coach is so much better than what i had when I was there.I liked Mike and he was able to help me get my degree while running for him but not a good coach. The staff now is a huge improvement

No, I have not. John has done a pretty fair job overall and has come upon hard times these past two seasons, but his real body of success was pre-MVC.  Freeman is past history (way past) and also pre-MVC. Tennis and Bowling have held up well.  But WBB and SB and Golf have been ongoing train wrecks.

But you totally missed my point, which is:  Women’s  sports at Valpo across the board have a potentially huge upside IF more investment was made in them, because Valpo has a unique DI culture and environment that can be a magnet for great female athletes (as well as coaches) —  IF (again) funded and leveraged properly.

Right now, and that’s where I am focused, Carin is and has been the gold standard in leveraging what she been given. John Marovich and Bob Modesto have been pretty consistent in getting the most out of what they have.  Imagine, if their budgets were increased to within the top three of MVC budgets, where these teams would be finishing in the MVC standings (and maybe nationally 🙄).  Imagine, as well, if Valpo did the same for BB, SB and Golf.

The initial NET rankings were released today with Valpo women's basketball displaying the worst record in the nation at 0-8 and ranked 357 out of 363 teams. VU will be underdogs in every game the rest of the season and likely would be favored by the odds to have a totally winless season. Again, I raise an issue I have stated for years and that was reintroduced by '62 recently. Since mid-major women players are not looking to go pro or make much NIL money, but they and their parents would be interested in a smaller school, well-respected academically and located in a safe community, that has a culture which appeals to women and where the overall female enrollment is about 58%, and especially with a very good reputation in fields popular with females (such as nursing and health professionals, social sciences, meteorology, or others), why can't Valparaiso be more successful at recruiting women players?

@valpopal - very good points, although mathematically I would wage that the women’s team will win a game this season. The bottom of the MVC with Valpo really sucks, and one of those games  Valpo will have an A performance at their standards and ring the bell in the cold ever so gleeefully.

the talent level of this team is dismal, and the coach is learning. Evans left this program in a complete mess, another coach Valpo kept for too long.

Evans was a terrible women’s coach and required a firing. 33 turnovers is unheard of.
As for Fox, what an enigma.

I remember a time when the Men's team (can't remember if in last year of Smith era or first two years of Homer) had a game with 40 turnovers.  Yes, a turnover per minute.

Boyd really needs to recruit some talent for next year. This team really could go winless; the offence looks pretty abysmal today: turnovers, missed layups, poor 3pt shooting and down 11 against a UIC team who are shooting pretty poorly themselves (32% FG, 1-12 from 3)

Because UIC is not very good and they were without their two best scorers, I thought Valpo might have a chance for a win at home, so I decided to see this game and dragged two others to watch with me. I won't make that mistake again.

The only bright spot for VU was the play of Mor Shabtai, who scored 16 points and had 0 turnovers with 9 rebounds, pretty good for a slight 5'4" player. Apparently, though, this was an aberration, since on the season she is shooting only 30% across the board on field goals, 3 pt. shots, and free throws. However, take her production today away and the rest of the team was 11-49 (22%) on field goals and just 2-19 (11%) from the 3-point line. Even Shabtai was merely 1-7 (14%) from the free throw line, where the team shot 38%.

Valpo's 0-9 is tied for the worst record in the country, and they came into today's game ranked 357 out of 363 teams. If they continue to play in the future as they have thus far, the fall to last place in the country is a possibility.

This team is obviously very low on the talent level and is a work in progress. They will win a game or a few - the MVC at the bottom half is terrible.

A test tonight vs Central Michigan.  CMU beat Detroit by 33, we lost to Detroit by 30. Let's see how far we have progressed. CMU's last 4 games were Notre Dame, Purdue, Michigan and Kentucky.

@azvalpo sigh, looks like it’s shaping up to be a long game.

Wow, the Valpo women’s team keep rocking along. 0-13. We need to find the date and game where the first win will be celebrated.

I have no inside info, nor am I clairvoyant, nor do I have a rational reason, but for some reason  I sense that coach Boyd is gonna be the answer to VUWBB success - despite a horrible first season (so far).

This is her DI learning year. In 2026, I think we will see a major shift in her recruiting that will add more size, talent and athleticism. How do I know this?

1) her personality that is so much more appealing than her two predecessors,

2) her history of doing this building thing before, and

3) the sense that her players love her, which I don’t think Dorrow or Evans ever got to that level in their player relationships.

Here’s hoping.
