usc4valpo. Think you are wrong there. Probably in Carlson era and early Cecchini yes. Fox beat Roosevelt and NAIA #3 IWU. Roosevelt went to wire with Mount Union. 10-1 Wabash lost to 1-11 Butler 48-21 or something of that nature. Valpo beat Nutler 47-3 and was in back half of conference. I respectfully disagree. Even the Saint Thomas argument, Saint Thomas had three recruiting classes that knew Division 1 was coming.
PFL talent level is way up due to portal and D1 stigma. 3 FCS scholarship teams lost to PFL teams last weekend (Lindenwood, Mercer, New Haven), NAIA scholarship teams are losing to PFL bottom feeders. And D3/Low End D2/Low NAIA are getting pounded
Our BACK UP RB had 600 all purpose yards at Wyoming in the MWC
An interesting development. The 2024 starting QB at Mount Union will be on Adrian roster this season Noah Beaudrie, one would imagine a starting season at Mount Union would lead to a transfer up and not down

I'm going to ask another of my naive questions, because I really don't know this D1 FCS non-scholarship world well at all when it comes to comparative talent levels:
Valpofb16, so is then a contrast to what the portal is doing to our basketball program? In other words, might Valpo's football program be seeing greater benefits from the portal -- enough to give us a surprise contending season, perhaps -- because of promising players looking for quality playing time at a D1 level during their last season or two?
It already has. We were a Duece LaRose end zone drop from a PFL championship in Fox year 2. That team relied heavily on Robert Washington. Who would have never seen Valpo pre portal.
Short answer to your questions yes. But like basketball, the PFL is losing and gaining players like crazy. Which for players like Dalton Kincaid (USD) and Zion Johnson (Davidson) has led to NFL exposure.
it also works very much so in reverse as well.Valpo has had several early successful guys leave before eligibility is done (Kaplan,Grguric,Russell,Givens, Davis, Johnson, Nwosisi, Spleman) just to name a few. You have double bounce ups and double bounce downs
New Haven lost to Marist. Their QB was former Florida State, 4 star, 91 247 AJ Duffy, and their RB was Brian Thomas, Valpos #3 back last season. Just altogether fascinating
The number of transfers on these teams everywhere is insane and can hurt college football. Miami has 51 transfers this year. Some have more.
I tend to disagree with you @valpofb16 but you are insanely dedicated and knowledgeable. D3 Central College in Pella IA would likely beat Valpo. Valpo is truly D1 in name only.
USC4Valpo maybe 10 years ago. Stay with me
Valpo beat Davidson 18-17
Davidson beat Presbyterian 48-37
Presbyterian beat Butler 30-27
*Now notice a completely different level of football*
Butler beat Hanover 53-0!! ( Repeat different level)
Hanover beat Wabash 13-10
Perennial Contender Wabash beat St Norbert 31-0
Coe College / Saint Norbert had similar scores against Buena Vista
Coe College beat your beloved Central 16-13.
all this to say. Beacs probably handle Central 42-7 last year
Central has a better nickname (Dutch) and better bakeries and Gouda!
I would say you were onto something if there wasn’t an 84 point swing the 2 times you jump conferences
QB play….
2 fumbled snaps
1 int
1 delay of game
Noah Long is the lone bright spot. Feel for the players Fox left on D
Valpo ZERO. Adrian 3.
WAKE UP FRIGGEN TIME!!!!!
This game as a whole has been very disappointing so far. Adrian is daring us to throw the ball and we just can’t do it.
And as I type this, there is another INT.
Worst Valpo loss since the Butler game in 2013. Just absolutely terrible quarterback play. It seems despite 2 picks Florence was adamant staying with last years back up while Caron sat on the sideline. Defense had a freshman in at corner final drive.
we may be in for some dark times
Valpo falls 10-7. Very disappointing effort from the offense and the defense crumbled when they were needed most.
I know it’s just Week 2, but this might turn into a long season very quickly. Gonna have to weather the storm against Western Illinois and North Dakota before getting into conference play.

wow, what would have happened if Valpo put Central on the schedule!
There is no weathering the storm against Western Illinois and North Dakota. We lost to an upper tier D3 team in an AVERAGE D3 conference. It took Fox and Cecchini 10 years to get to where Valpo was a consistent threat in PFL play to go .500.
Our QB was left out there after throwing 2 picks. Rowan’s sample size as a starter has been awful. Caron is 5-5 last 10 starts and we pull him? Fumbles twice because snaps were low. We have the actually offensive center from Presbyterians 2022 roster on our team (Ryan Pauley).
I’d prefer not to attack individual players. But our offense as a whole is not very talented outside of Mansaray. Long showed flashes then didn’t touch the ball the rest of the game. Looked like Rowan was able to throw against the soft zone on the shoulda been game winning drive. A field goal would have tied and we are pushing the ball to the end zone.
Valpo is in trouble and this will be a huge , huge tool against Valpo in recruiting for years to come
