Interesting how so many of the X posts of our new 2026 commits have the young man in a Valpo uniform and helmet AND the background graphics just happen to include one or more crusaders. Hmmmmm 🤭
@vulb62 it doesn't mean much of anything to be honest. The graphics that are widely available on the internet are Crusader graphics or The shield of character. There's barely anything related to lighthouses when they create these graphics. They are using what is widely available. It's not some secret deep conspiracy to get the Crusader back
@rezynezy Not suggesting a conspiracy by any means, but merely remarking at the fact that, despite the nickname change that was officially announced back in August 2021 (before these kids were even in high school or knew of Valpo as the Crusaders), the Crusader graphic symbol just won’t go away. I find that interesting.
And, aside from the requisite photo session during an official visit, I haven’t the foggiest notion as to what graphic files might be provided by the FB program to recruits for their “possible” X announcements. But I will say from a design perspective that there certainly is a general graphic consistency to the kids’ posts. And this is not just at Valpo. Seeing the same approach at other schools as well.
I've mostly noticed the knight with the football team. The basketball guys usually just release their photo shoot photo. The football weight room also still has the lifting mats with the knight logo unlike the basketball weight room which had the shield. Unless someone knew who makes these graphics. I guess it's largely unknown besides the fact that the mascot change didn't create a whole lot of new material for graphics.
It’s fan art. Graphic designer in post thanked athletes for letting him create. Nothing more nothing less.
I was going to launch into a diatribe about the process that led to the ouster of the Crusader but I thought the better of it. Suffice to say it remains a very sore subject with me and, I would guess, many others.

AMEN, Paul!
Get over it. The mistake was changing from a German Knight because of a few Germans in the forties. Then, mistakenly choosing to embrace a character who murdered Jews, Muslims as well as forcing conversions. Nothing lights the way of faith for Valpo better than the Beacon. Get a grip.
