@valpofb16 I think you both were right about your overarching arguments. We were at least competitive with Fox, but we shouldn’t “settle” for being competitive.
Hopefully this is just a part of the rebuild process… This has been ROUGH for all of us, and rough is an understatement.
The question is whether Valpo can get beyond competitive which Valpo was under Fox and who's main issue was finding an OC. Repeated re-inventing the wheel when the wheel itself is lacking doesn't really help.
One can explain away the poundings I guess but there's little reason to be optimistic at the moment.

You’re gonna see a lot of open roster spots 11/23.. Valpo is not cheap. We went from competitive to non competitive and returned about 1/2 the starters.
UD got every break in the first half. The missed field goal, the pic 6, the shuffle pass for 40 yards on a near sack and then the perfect fumble at the end of the 20 yard scamper. Valpo lost a lot on defense, Sam Johnson was like a 12th defender. We lack so much size and speed on D and no play makers on offense outside of the QB. Yes long season and not looking good to win any more games. Waddle didn’t have instant success at Marietta, so this will take three years minim until he gets his players in here and recruiting inroads established . Yes Fox and our D kept us in nearly every game last year. Don’t know if we can do better than Fox.

Waddle will not be sacked at Valpo for at least until the end of the 2027 season. This team is clearly lacking personnel.
Waddle went 1-9, 2-8, 2-8, and 3-7 before starting to post mostly winning records at Marietta, playing in a conference whose top teams (led by Mount Union) would probably compete for a title in the Pioneer League.
The Adrian transfer QB who beat Valpo was Mount Union's starter last season. He's completing 70% of his passes. Did he transfer because he wasn't likely to keep his job? That's how good and deep the top Ohio Athletic Conference football teams happen to be.
At the very least, we have to see what kind of talent this coaching staff brings into next season and what they do with a replenished roster.

We had been joking about it in the press box and trying to jinx it. First penalty of the game was actually offsetting personal foul infractions.

watched the presser. I don’t love how Waddle is saying they don’t have the knowledge on how to prepare to compete and insinuating they don’t have talent. That is a lot of Carlson talk.
65 of the players were not accustomed to getting mowed over in really first halves last year. Talent thing can be on Waddle. Hired December 9th not after signing day like Fox.
All the kids that are playing are not his recruits sans 3-4 guys
Again the “tear this thing to the stud” talk. Valpo was about 6-7 breaks away from winning seasons the last 5 years. He didn’t inherit Carlsons roster or a team after signing day. Never really heard Fox or Cecchini blaming the players in the post game. Don’t like it, in non scholarship you need them more than they need you

@valpofb16 - the post game was depressing and lame. Fighting back in the second half when it was garbage time has no merit. I am not sure Fox have been sacked, but being in rebuild mode for decades sucks.
Also, mentioning a teams success was 6 or 7 events or plays away is a real copout as good teams figure out or overcome bad luck or various circumstances. It reminds me of Dave Wannestadt coaching the Bears to poor seasons as he would make that excuse consistently
