Speaking of Daniel, and waiting for him to sign, I thought it would do us all some good to look at his highlite tape again.  The kid can fly in the air and on the ground!

Just this once, I don't think Eddie is pulling our leg.

Daniel should be a player but he may struggle in 18-19 just like most freshman do.

Daniel wins a dunk contest!

With no basis what so ever, I predict Sackey will be better than Max, but maybe not quite as good as Buggs.  I would be very ok with that.

The big questions will be..   Can he play defense?   Can he hit 3's at a reasonable enough clip not to have people sag off him to limit the effectiveness of his speed?  I have a feeling his lack of a jump shot and 3 point shooting caused him to have fewer looks from other teams.   Doesn't matter how quick you are if everyone can sag off you.

You make a very solid point regarding lack of overall offers.  His highlights are even more devoid of jump shots than one would think possible.

Thought someone said that he tried a prep school in the states that folded.  I'm hoping the lack of exposure in 2016/17 (unsure if those were the years) combined with his lack of proven competition (plains in western Canada) are the major contributors to less offers.

But a jump shot or 3-ball is significant as you say.  If Micah stays I think we are ok @ PG for 2017/18.  I'm not as down on Micah as many were his sophomore year.  He certainly has a lot of work to do on scoring efficiency but he's an outstanding change of pace over Bakari.

Um, what?  Buggs was a great point but if Daniel isn't a better scorer it will be a big disappointment.  Erik shot 16.7% from the 3 and 51.3% from the free throw line, his final (5th) year.

As for Daniel playing somewhere without much competition, apparently his talent was judged to be very high as he made the Canadian national team.

From what I've heard he's a better scorer then Buggs ever was. They are similar in stature and athleticism though. He's playing in the Biosteel classic right now.

I'm guessing his 5'10 stature automatically turned off some coaches, particularly at the power conference level. It sounds like Daniel took his game up a notch the last year or so.

Some stat sheets I found: (he appears to be a pretty good scorer but I'm not sure how much defense is being played in these games...)

I thinkk we found a gem. Our Canadian kids are a ittle different from American kids. They are more Team oriented, I think this kid will flourish.

FieldGoodie05

VU2014 you are a stat finding machine!  Hard pressed to imagine a player putting up 30+ ppg that doesn't have a jump shot ehh!?!?

Daniel Sackey is going to officially sign his Letter of Intent today.

VU2014

With the news of Marty's transfer we now have 3 available scholarships.

VUGrad1314

I can't believe we passed on Bruninga and his needed shooting ability for Lindssen AKA Der Grosser Bust (The Big Bust for those who don't speak at least some German) I guess we'll always have that Kent State game where he came up huge. This is a really bad look for the program Matt needs to land somebody with some talent quick. A recruit A transfer Anything.

VU2014

I'd imagine our coaches are monitoring the grad-transfer and JUCO market. We struck out on one JUCO guy Mike Davis.

We need immediate help/depth at the PF position next season. I'm not sure we're going to find a stud at this point. It might be best to land the most reliable stretch 4 grad-transfer they can find. Then also pursue a high level RS transfer if possible. I just don't want us to settle for a mediocre JUCO guy that you need to be committed to for at least 2 years. Keep aiming high and if we need to "settle" make sure it's only a commitment for 1 year.

VUGrad1314

Not looking good on Finke at all Lots of high level interest Could probably go play at GCU with his brother.

Yeah I'm not sure we were ever in the conversation with him. Apparently Vandy was in his Final 5 though. A player like Finke sure would be nice...

Hmmm, a bust?  Thought most of us expected Linssen was going to red shirt at best last year.

Also, where did we (collectively) start thinking we need a PF or death becomes us?  Fazekas will be starting at that position in all likelihood.  Where is this program changing PF transfer going to get starter level minutes from?

We need serviceable @ that position and I think Mileek is already that guy.  Linssen is not even close to a bust at this point in his career.  Maybe my opinion differs from others, after all I seem to play the villain part on this forum (knowingly or otherwise).

VUGrad1314

Why do I keep hearing that Fazekas will be getting minutes at the 2-3? I thought he was a 4 too.

He has always been used more of a perimeter player. He was actually listed as a 2 guard at Providence. He's a bit of a mystery on how he'll be used.

valpolaw

Has anyone heard anything on Joe Burton and what he's doing? Would be a nice surprise if he became eligible and came back next season but that's probably just wishful thinking.

FieldGoodie05

Martin Linssen transferring.  Ok, PF became more needed than if he stayed.

VUGrad1314

Does this perhaps help us register on Welage's radar?

Only if Fazekas and Golder aren't on the court together.

Welage from IN @ 6'9" is more traditional PF?  He looks rail thin, is his game more alike to Fazekas than not?
