Valpo Basketball / Not so good news....
October 12, 2011, 05:31:11 PM
On the women's side, they only have 6 healthy bodies practicing right now....they have a list of injuries that is too long to recite here.  Hopefully they will heal in the next couple of weeks and the exhibition season starts November 1.

Valpo Basketball / Great News !!!!
October 12, 2011, 05:29:22 PM
I was out at the ARC this afternoon and was informed that Kevin's back if giving him no trouble whatsoever...apparently the therapy they tried this summer worked.  I am told he is pain free and is moving better than he has in a long time.  I personally think he might be the key to our season, so I think this is great news....

On The Horizon / Howard, Van Zant to Europe
July 29, 2011, 09:26:36 AM
In case you haven't seen it, Howard has signed to play in Greece and Van Zant to play in Finland.  I wonder if Howard would have waited for the NBA if it weren't for the lock out.  I think more and more guys will be following their example soon.

If you haven't seen the story in Sports Illustrated, Scott Drew is mentioned as one of 9 coaches who invested in what turned out to be a ponzie scheme.  The guy who did it, committed suicide.  Apparently Scott was hit for $621,000.  The reason there is so much interest is the guy was an AAU coach and apparently told at least one coach that if they invested with him they would have access to his players.  Be interesting to see what happens from here on, if anything.  Knowing Scott, I don't think he would have done anything illegal, let's hope so anyway.

Valpo Basketball / Big guys....
June 29, 2011, 02:48:07 PM
I just saw Cam, Vucic, Kurth and one of the new guys at Wal-Mart.  I swear Vucic has gained 30 or 40 pounds....he looks huge...of course we were standing in Wal-Mart, so not sure if that translates to the floor...but it gave me hope.

Valpo Basketball / VU Women to visit China
June 22, 2011, 04:56:12 PM
The University finally released one of the things that many of us knew about but weren't allowed to announce....the VU women will be traveling to China in August.  These types of trips normally result in a team starting off much better than they might otherwise and teams that travel overseas many times have great years after.  Let's hope this happens with the ladies....Congratulations to Keith Freeman and his ladies...should be a great trip

Sports Talk / BCS to meet with congress
June 02, 2011, 02:43:39 PM
Thought it would be interesting to see how you feel about a college football playoff a the highest level.  Congress has called the BCS in for meetings...is this all Congress needs to be concerned about?  What say yea?

So what kinds of changes do you think Bryce will bring?  More uptempo would be the biggest I would think...more pressure defense.....It will be interesting to see....

Valpo Basketball / VU's biggest need.....
April 20, 2011, 02:00:40 PM
We have all talked about that VU's biggest need is a big guy inside....and while that is a HUGE need of this team.....I'm not sure it's the biggest need...a friend brought this up to me and I think he may be right....our biggest need may well be that Buggs has to become an offensive threat...because no matter what we have inside, if the opponent can play us 4 on 5, we are in trouble.  The Iona game was a prime example.  The Gaels NEVER guarded Buggs on the perimeter, but took away Broekhoff and Wood with double teams and dropped people back inside against Corey.  Buggs was left to run free but his lack of offense from the outside killed us.  Milwaukee did the same as did Green Bay....my friend's thought, and I think I agree, is we have to get more production from him offensively.  No question about his speed and defense, but he must become an offensive threat if he's going to play major minutes....I don't mean this to be an indictment of Erik, I love watching him play, but it is what it is....I'm sure he's working on his shot this offseason, hopefully it will come around and he'll be at least a threat next year....

Sports Talk / Painter to Missouri.....?
March 29, 2011, 12:29:24 AM
I now have two reports, that I have not been able to confirm, that Matt Painter has taken the job at Missouri and is leaving Purdue.  I had heard reports that he and the AD at Purdue have not been getting along for quite a while, but this is a shock to me if true.  Supposedly, $14 M for 7 years....

Valpo Basketball / Do you believe in omens?
March 14, 2011, 04:04:48 PM
Just in case, in the past when John Bowker has been unable to do the PA for the men's games...my son has filled in 3 times, and I have filled in 4 times...our record......7-0....looking to make it 8, and if you count the PFL Championship football game several years ago, we already have reached 8.....and I will be doing the PA for the game Wednesday night.....I'm just sayin'
