I agree- the pace we were playing was very fast. A really entertaining game to watch though. I think we need to give a lot of credit to these underclassmen- they held their own against a veteran bulky, tall missouri state team. Great effort.
Agreed. We started 4 freshman as I recall it today, plus Darius. Great for future getting experience but does make it tough getting dubs against veteran teams. Will be good to hopefully get Isaiah back next week to add back another upperclass player.

I think we all knew this would be a tough year from a W/L perpective. It hopefully leads to better days ahead with all the experience the young guys are getting. I trust the Rev's plan.

Any news on Stafford today? We don't see him on the bench, not playing.....

This a VERY young team, But talented.

They will need time to grow, and they will have freshman mistakes no doubt.

This team is 1 million times better to watch than last year's team.  There seems to be a plan on offense and the coaches seem to be more involved.

I predict Cooper, if he stays all four years, will be player the year in the Missouri valley his senior season.  He has all the tools and I can see why Coach Powell had very high praises for him when we signed him.

Agree with everything you said.
I as well. Cooper is skilled for a 6-9 guy. Long arms. Once he adds some strength he will be special.

Isaiah Stafford is a shooter and scorer as well. Will be interesting to see if he can do that vs MVC level competition.

La Peep - good choice. +1 is Darius, correct?

I'm not sure at all. But that doesn't look like Darius? I'm probably wrong on my take.

Agree with WH, speed, athleticism, and size is a common theme.  No doubt about it.

I can't wait till the season starts.  A fresh new look, style, philosophy has me beyond excited.  I just love the enthusiasm and engagement this coaching staff has shown.

And I love the Boom posts!! Coach Q keep it up.
Yes sir! Agree with your evaluation. I'm excited for this team and potential. Trying to not get too far over my ski's though. But will be fun to watch the young guys grow and continue improving. Fun time ahead I'm hoping.

Agreed. In recent past we seemed to recruit players who we then tried to fit in some type of system. Now we have a system Coach talked about, and are recruiting players hopefully with skillets to play in that system. This approach makes sense, and hoping we can have the similar quick success as say the Sycamores have recently had in the MVC after a coaching and philosophy change.

If they have the skillets, they will probably pan out.  ;)
Thank you. Fixed it. [emoji1787]

What we do know, via video, is that the players coming in are very athletic.  That plays well into Roger's stated objective of playing fast.  We will see a lot of fast breaks and quick shots, so at a minimum it will be exciting.  Beats the heck out of the last few years.

Does this tweet mean one of our current 13 scholarship players is leaving? Would seem so reading between the lines.

I was really confident throughout the season a change would be made after the season ended.

I'm getting really nervous now.

Again, it's time to get on with your life. There will be no coaching change at Valpo this off season. No reason for you or anyone else to get your hopes up.
Agree. [emoji3581]

The light at the end of the tunnel is seeing what the new President and new AD do this spring. I'm confident they will make moves to instill hope.
I wish I had your confidence about changes. I hope I am wrong.

Is Jerome Palm injured? He's been MIA lately and I wondered if he's hurt or in doghouse. Could use a big who rebounds to spell Krikke. Just curious if PO or anyone else has heard anything.

[emoji106] Sadly have to agree.

And are we jinxed or doing something wrong in terms of why we have endless injury issues?

"Play Bayu 20 minutes a game, let him develop. Rebound and put backs. Most athletic player on the team. He should not be allowed to go one on one yet."
---‐-------------------------------------------------'

Very much agree with this from AB's post. I watched Mr. Bayu shoot at the before game warmups and at the halftime warmups Sunday at the Murray State game. He has a lot of work to do on his jump shot. But you can tell how super athletic he is, etc. His role for now s/b as a slasher, drive to basket, rebound put backs, rebound, play solid D guy. The shooting improvement will come with lots of reps and hard work during the off-season.   I hope he continues to work hard and shows continued improvement at Valpo. He certainly has potential and a huge upside.

Yeah didn't close out and contest the 3's. Too many good looks and the same play ran off the inbounds twice for 3's. Can't trade two's for three's and win. We know that's Belmont's game for the last 20 years, make them dribble drive and force runners. What's clear. Jerome Palm needs to play 30 minutes a game and should never shoot a three pointer again this season. They guy is good at carving out space in the paint and rebounding, put backs etc. Way better than Krikke!!!. Our offense needs to play through Krikke and King every time down. We know teams are gonna double Krikke and take him out but he needs to get a touch every time down. If only.....Nick Edwards, DaVario or Preston had a consistent jump shot you could respect on the two man game (screen roll) with Krikke.
Have we given up on Palese? Also we need to get Barrett 20 minutes a game. He's a shooter and needs minutes. Probably our only reliable shooter from deep. He won't get confidence with 5 minutes a game.
[emoji817]....many great points in AB's post. Could not agree more!

72 - when do they plan to build this new arena? I have not heard anything regarding this.

The question was in the resolve of the University.  Making a public statement announcement says a lot.  As for when, it has been posted that President Padilla has already been out meeting with large donors.

I may have missed something, but I have never seen an announcement. If it is embedded, in some way, in the "strategic plan" - there are several initiatives in that plan that will never happen. And the term "out meeting with donors" can be an extensive and focused effort or mentioning it among many initiatives in which Valpo seeks funds from donors. I would like to be wrong, but I have not seen any meaningful effort.
I believe if I recall correctly on Paul Owen's first podcast this year, where President Padilla was a guest, the discussion was had about renovating the ARC vs building a new arena. President Padilla prefers a new arena, as well as another turf field. He mentioned a firm from Columbus, Ohio was working on designs at various costs to show what can be done at each cost level. This firm he said had designed arenas and stadiums around the country. That podcast interview by Paul and President Padilla left me hopeful we might progress beyond just talking about it.

Finally!!!
This is a good "start" in the right direction.  Hopefully the $500 turns into offering scholarships, which turns into more competition to get out and play, which turns into a better sounding atmosphere at home games. [emoji106]

https://www.valpoathletics.com/mbasketball/news/2022-23/21450/valpo-basketball-reveals-nonconference-schedule/
Agreed. Hard to see a home game that will draw many fans as a must see game. Only possible Nov/Dec saving grace for fans would be a MVC conference game. I'm assuming with the 20 game conference schedule there will be 2 conference games in Dec? Perhaps one home, one away? I'd sure like to think we're better than this type of schedule. I've drank too much kool-aid over time. Wow.

New offer made today to 6-0 PG. A juco from Hillsborough CC in Florida. If still offering schollies wonder if this indicates a current player is leaving? My guess is yes.
