Valpo Basketball / Krikke
February 02, 2020, 08:00:26 AM
Last night, we all got to witness what Krikke brings to the table. We've seen it in spurts. But, last night he finally got the minutes. He's the best post player  we've got from a pure basketball standpoint. As in, he's a basketball player who has the touch, the finesse, the basketball IQ, and several of the other intangibles.

You don't have to make a couple hundred grand a year or be a basketball savant to see that. It's time for Krikke to get more PT. We've all said it - I know John is the fan favorite and is to be respected for his effort and so forth. But, Krikke takes us to a different level. No reason why Krikke should be spilling John. John gives 100% no doubt. But when you really watch the game he just flat out gets out-sized and out-athleted by guys. Not his fault. He's a role player but we need to recognize what we've got behind him.

Also, I'd love to see Freese-Vilien get some PT. It's not rocket science to see the chemistry some of these guys have when you put them in at the same time.

Does Krikke deserve his own thread? Time shall tell but I think so ...

Valpo Basketball / New Transfer Coming to VU!
April 01, 2019, 10:56:34 AM
This just in, Valpo just got a lot better.

Other than the four remaining teams left in the tournament, many players are officially entering the transfer portal. After a devastating loss in the NCAA tournament, Zion Williamson announces he'll be leaving Duke University and transferring to Valpo. Yes - Valpo.

Zion accredited his move to an interest in playing better competition in the MVC than in the ACC. He comes with a WE mentality. Despite likely being a first round pick and one of the best players in the history of college bansketball, Zion recognizes his need to fine tune non-basketball elements in his life - such as his need to learn how to do laundry.

Zion also noted that his appreciation for historic gymnasiums - like Cameron Indoor Center - is another major draw to Valpo because he'd get to play in the ARC. Like Cameron Indoor, the ARC largely remains the same as it was when constructed.

The Duke Crazies will be missed. However, Zion hopes to bring back the V-Rex out of its recent state of extinction.

Last, Zion accredited the bleacher seating as another major draw as it reminds him of his playing days while in a Mighty Mights league.

This is a HUGE get for Valpo and could lead to a new rendition of The Shot!

Oh ya ... and, April Fools!!!

Reply with a post stating what we'll have to wait until next season before we ... find out, get, etc.

For instance,

We'll have to wait until next season to earn our 30th total win spanning the 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020 seasons.

I watched the Valpo football press conference today. I will admit - to call myself a casual fan of VU football would likely be a stretch.

With that said, I watched the press conference today for ou new coach. Wow, did I leave with some interesting takeaways:

1. If we had 80-90ish people reach out about interest in the Valpo football coaching position and would "know the names" of a lot of these applicants - what *could have been* or *could be* the candidate pool for the men's Valpo b-ball coaching position?

Hear me out .. before you combat the point with this or that about Matt.

Our Valpo football program isn't nearly as attractive of a job as our men's b-ball team coaching job.

1. Facilities - As bad as the ARC is, think about Brown Field. Like, seriously. Think about that.

2. Players - football team is fcs and DOES NOT offer scholarships. No $$$$! Our b-ball players are full-scholarship. And, there's WAY less b-ball scholarships out there than football due to how many are allowed.

There are 13 scholarships available per team to be divided among the players. A total of 4,381 scholarships are offered in Division 1 basketball for men.

Scholarship count: FBS programs are allowed 85 scholarships on its roster at any given time, and generally can sign up to 25 players per year. Scholarship breakdown: All 85 scholarships are full rides

What's my point? There's more b-ball players that are available to mid-majors than football players.

3. Salary - there's no way our men's b-ball coach isn't offering a MUCH larger salary than our football program is offering. And yet they had 80-90 interested?????

4. National brand - who talks about Valpo football nationally? How many games a year are nationally televised? How many folks attend games? Need I say more?

Think about it, folks.

Just think about it...

What's my point? If we have THAT many people interested in the football job, what could be .... who could be interested? Idk .... if folks we'd recognize the names of applied for football, who'd apply for men's b-ball?

Also, did you listen to what our AD said about why he was the right guy for this football job?

Did you hear him talk about his coaching experience learning from so many different head coaches? For a long time ... ?

What about Matt? He learned from one coach. Coached at one place .... at the end of the bench.

Did our new football coach play in the PAC 12? Nope. Does that make him a worse coach? Nope. Familiarity with the PFL mattered.

Did you hear his comment about injuries marring last year's football season? He said they WILL NOT make excuses.

Idk? Folks ... I'm just saying. It's something to think about.

Our highest revenue-generating sport vs ... not ...
