Great "press" conference. Good thing Roger is a great speaker considering there were no actual reporters at the game.

I haven't watched the "press conference" yet, but I'm wondering who was there from the "press?"
PO was sick and couldn't make it. No one was sitting in the media area.
Guess it was all for video?

When I click on the ValpoFanZone, I now see a page with only the most recent entry in a few categories.  Is this some kind of an accident in our or just my portal path?  Or is this a deliberate change in the topics menu?

There were more recent posts on other topics than the Feb. 8 sports one.
Happened to me as well.
Expecting Beacons to be blown out tonight. :(

I'm starting to question my decision to pay over $200 for season tickets.
They are almost unwatchable. I know we are supposed to be patient and give them a chance, so I'll hang in there for home games.
If they win another game this season, it will be an upset.

We haven't heard the last from Lubos. Sit tight.

IUPUI has been one of the worst Division I programs in the country for the last 2-3 years.
They can only go up, theoretically.

Green Bay is a good example of a program that has sunk to lower levels than Valpo, after one time being among the best mid-majors in the nation under Dick Bennett.
They've had some halfway decent teams since the 1990s, but not many.
So, as bad as things have been in Valpo the last 6-7 years, it's not as bad as what Green Bay has endured on the men's side at least.

I always thought the problem was just cheap speakers.

Diakite is pursuing the prep school route to develop his game, because he's already got that 3.7 gpa on the academic side. Very cool. In another year, VU MBB will be adding a true student-athlete to the roster.

Not necessarily. Stay tuned.

Perhaps we should balance the highlight videos with videos of the lowlights?
I always keep this phrase in the back of my mind: There is a reason each player is on the Valpo roster, and not on a Power 6 roster.

Valpo U graduate Ben Lieske, a good high school basketball player at Valpo High before becoming a manager for Scott and Homer Drew, has been named VHS basketball head coach.
He has spent 17 years as a teacher/coach at Valpo. He is a loyal, well-liked Valpo lifer who will be great as Vikings head coach.

Anyone know who Patrick Fazio is?

Do you know where he played college football?

Patrick Fazio was a receiver for the Crusaders. Last I knew, he was a reporter/anchor on Channel 5. Not sure if he left for another station or not.

NBC 5 WMAQ Chicago TV news anchor/reporter

Valparaiso (as he says in his bio--NCAA Div 1 AA)

Most of the kids who find their way to LuLumiere are 4-5 star type kids who plan on going to a power conference.
Example: Jaden Ivy, Purdue - Detroit Pistons.

Could have been Notre Dame.

All of this is great, but as Jerome Tang said in the NCAA Tournament, "We have dudes."
Until the Beacons have some dudes, I don't care what style they are playing.
You need to have good players. And, not just players who sound good on a recruiting report.

He was quite a character. I remember thinking at the time, so THIS is what it's like to transplant a California kid in Valparaiso.

What is Padilla's sons role at the university?  He mentioned his son was part of the interview process and had "spidey senses"
He has no official role, and using that phrase is somewhat embarrassing.

Brandon attended TJ Middle School, and was a star in football and basketball. He IS a hometown kid, come on.

Way to go, Ben!!! I will be rooting for this young man. I love the thought of Ben's game in the B10 Ten. It will benefit him to learn from a veteran coach in Fran McCaffery.
Even though he is a Grade A No. 1  :censored:?

If Roger could convince Brandon to "come home," it would be a program-transforming recruit. If he helped lead a return to prominence, it would easily be on par with David Redmon and Casey Schmidt returning home which triggered Valpo's original rise to prominence.

I'm not going to believe it until PO (or the school) announces, and you guys shouldn't either.

I'm guessing Roger Powell.

No players. No coaches. Has VU basketball ever been in limbo this bad?

Interesting Tweet above by Joey Teeple, considering his mother works for VU.
