Big question for me remains scholarships for 2024. Do we end up with one grad transfer or none and it's going to be a case where other students are just expected or encouraged to transfer?

This made me curious about if Valpo was doing anything regarding the issue with writing and I Found this:https://www.valpo.edu/university-writing-program/

Looks like a lot of it was funded through the last endowment drive so that's good to see as it means it's funding is most likely protected.

Is it really hard to do this anymore? even when I was in school a large portion of my friends were double majoring with the exception of Nursing and Engineering and even they had minors available.  I knew people who had two majors and a minor. I think it definitely could always be easier but flexibility can often be hampered less by the structure of gen eds and more by students changing majors late or not realizing until later they want a minor. One other piece though is that just because it doesn't say it on your diploma you still get to keep the knowledge and skills learned in those courses and apply them in ways that are beneficial

I've heard that the new lights also have the ability to be shut on and off easily so we can have real starting line up introductions which should definitely help with game day atmosphere.

It may seem like lipstick on a pig but honestly if they had put more lipstick on throughout the last 40 years it probably would have helped keep it from looking and feeling so dated.

Yeah I think the idea that we can become an HSI is a possible achievement but maybe not probably but I also don't see anything wrong with a goal that pushes you towards ensuring you are preparing yourself to recruit and educate the fastest growing college aged demographic in your area.

Support, that seems unnecessarily antagonistic to '22 when you're the one coming in here basically acting like the only way the university can succeed is if they hire this one specific person.

You say you don't want a pissing match but you seem to want to be able to just accuse others and than demand we only engage with your privately when someone at all tries to clarify or challenge your position

Also Padilla didn't become president until spring of 2021 so not sure how he could have retained her?

Yeah it's way more engaging than it has been in years past which is great. Hopefully that can lead to follows or at least more national exposure. It's also good because it creates more content for other areas to engage with. I've noticed the Career and Alumni Twitter account has also been way more active lately which has been enjoyable.

I think we could have 3 left if at least one is filled with a grad transfer to ensure we have at least one for him but you'd think they'd like more than one incoming freshman next year so I'd assume at least 2 of the next 3 are grad transfers if not all 3 to ensure some balance

Per Paul: We have another Commit. A Freshman. Does that leave 2 or 3 scholarships left?

One thing that I think the University has done regarding it's balance is the Institute for Leadership and Service being tied to Chapel operations. They offer Fellowships and programming and other things that appeal to a broad demographic and highlight the idea of vocation and service to others. Yes some fellowships are with specifically Lutheran organizations but others are not or with other, broadly religious groups.

You still have the chapel life of service and praise bands and other things to partake in but, if Lutheran dogma isn't your cup of tea but religion or spirituality is you can still find that supported in a way directly tied to the religious roots of the university.

Could just be a kid he knows and is giving him a bump in visibility. I don't know that I would assume those two are linked.

Yeah i'd say your better bet is looking for players like a Peters who may be told go somewhere and increase your time/stats to get more looks/experience. You could go to a championship team but if you're on the bubble and you end up the 8th man in a rotation that's not gonna help get the eyes on your that you'd need.

I think players put both their name in the portal and go to the workouts/declare for the draft.

What happens in June? NBA workouts are over and those that are in the portal and the draft make their call?

I would also say that it's not also that they're not going to college or dong anything else but that even those that are at college, are often less involved.  I've heard from friends who work at universities that getting the men to apply for jobs or join organizations is like pulling teeth and that there are taskforces looking at the issue.

There's lots and lots of theories out there and while picking your political piccadillo of choice may be satisfyingly this is a long standing issue that has been happening and is concerning. My own person theory is the advent of video games. I know women who are married who often have to pry husbands away from their gaming consoles where they will spend hours of their time rather than socializing or engaging in real life activities. The dopamine hit of a lot of video games is very similar to gambling and I worry that, for all the focus the drug war has we may have a whole other addiction out there.

Did some lurking on the Racer's board and it seems they're divided between people who think that Prohm's refusal to play Edwards and another freshman because he stuck to his 7 man rotation is what led to players with potential leaving prematurely  and those that are deferring to the coaches' decision

He was recruited by the old coach I believe. He and another freshman who were  commits prior to Prohm coming in both entered the portal after this season. Could just be that they didn't fit his style or got shoved down the bench by all the older transfers he brought in.
