Figured I'd put this as a placeholder for in season news that was not specific game related. At this point I'm confident that the game roster is pretty much set in stone, the scout team has been given their charges and the team is ready to go full bore into the season.
Go Crusaders!

So at most positions we have to go 3,4 or 5 deep before we get to a true freshman. I wonder where we were at last year, say, mid-season as far as how many true freshman were in the 2 deep?

The offense had a fair amount of depth returning and should be less affected by defects and graduation. It looks like no true freshman on offense would travel to game one. Last year for the Drake game there were 3 true freshman within the 2 deep. Seewald, Cartales and Petruf. Cody Boxrucker also played enough to consider him part of the 2 deep. Gessinger was the KR.
I think the defense is more on the ropes at the start of the season.
Thank you to valpofb16 for posting the depth chart.
Without seeing the defensive depth chart, a look at the same Drake game 2 deep from halfway through last year reveals 9 players from the 2 deep gone including 5 or 6 starters mainly in the back 7. That doesn't include Tristan who I'm not sure is ready to go. Let's hope he is because I thought he and Doepke were to two best DL last year.

Good round up 16!
On paper the size and height would be prety comparable to any PFL squad. The questions are about comparable speed and skill. Let's hope those two criteria mesh as well. As jd24 has said, this is an indicator year; next year is the real deal. From there on we should be annually competitive.
PFL opponent Stetson news and it is very sad:
QuoteDELAND — A sophomore from Georgia collapsed and died during football practice at a Florida university.
Stetson University officials said in a statement that 19-year-old Nicholas Adam Blakely collapsed during a Monday evening practice. The accounting major from Lawrenceville, Georgia, was the sidelines when he complained of not feeling well. He collapsed and was taken to Florida Hospital Deland, where he died.
The statement said Coach Roger Hughes broke the news to his team and counselors are on hand to help them deal with their loss.
Blakely was a defensive back who was redshirted last season and never played in a college football game. The team was preparing for its season opener at Sacred Heart University on Saturday in Connecticut.
He attended Archer High School, which is northeast of Atlanta.
Sad indeed. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Didn't think this fit in a game thread so I popped it in here. Pretty impressive and a direct reflection of how our young QB has matured.

Just an opponent update. The Griz are 3-1 in the Big Sky and 5-2 overall. They clobbered U North Dakota this weekend. I like to think our good performance had a lot to do with wakening them up. I was asking where was that Valpo team that played UMT tough going into the Marist game. Got that answer yesterday
