I was surprised to notiice that we didn't start this thread sooner.
In line with some posts in other areas like volleyball, Valpo is proving that it is going to be immediately competitive in MVC play in more than just MBB. Our ladies (9-8-0, 3-3) beat Indiana State this weekend and assured themselves a spot in the MVC WSO Tournament. They could even finish the regular season as high as 3rd or 4th in the standings that establish the seeeds.

I honestly don't think their doing too bad for their first year in the MVC. 9-8 overall (Conf: 3-3) but hit a bit of a rough patch losing to IL St and UNI but bounced back and beat Indiana State the other day.
Women's soccer is at halftime in the MVC First Round game in Chicago, at Loyola Soccer Park. The score is 1-1, with a goal scored by Szcezney of Loyola, and the Valpo goal came a few minutes later in a free kick that was connected on a header by Griffith for her season-leading/single season record 11th goal of the season. Going to be a fun second half in Chicago. Winner gets Missouri St. in Springfield, MO Friday evening.
In the other First Round matchup, Northern Iowa leads Illinois St. at Cedar Falls, 1-0 at half.
2-1 Loyola now Szcezney scored again for the Ramblers in the 8th minute
Couple of big saves by Moulton to keep the Crusaders in it
Szcezney scores her second goal early in the second half of play. Loyola leads 2-1. We're spending a lot of time just kicking the ball around, instead of trying to keep the ball moving with short passes kept on the pitch. We'll have to fix that, if we're going to keep the Ramblers from taking control of this game.
Trying to figure why our best goal scorer doesn't take the penalty kick. Never had a chance
I don't know who the Defender was, but that second goal was all on her for heading the ball backwards, directly to their top scorer. I also wonder why our best goal scorer didn't take that PK! There was a free kick a few feet outside the box, just a few minutes before that point, where the left-footed player let the right-footed player take the kick, when the wall was perfectly lined up for a righty, and not as much a lefty. Just several dumb decisions, unfortunately.
Not the result we wanted, but I was quite impressed by the video quality (only watching from my phone).
A great achievement by Grace Rogers:
