So, I started another thread with just the MVC games ... I have compiled the composite schedule for all of our D1 opponents...19 games... one push (SIUE and Purdue play each other)... so of the 18 remaining games... how many will our opponents win? (seems to be a fairly even split about 5-5 or 6-4 for MVC teams... , but now you have to have scouted both SELA and Centenary... I'm going to go with 9

QuoteBall State almost beat Dayton on the road 77-78 today. Thats going to be a tough game in Muncie later this year.
It will indeed. Watched the last five minutes of this one, and Dayton was pretty much outplayed by BSU and bailed out by their A-10 officiating crew during the final sequence. Ball State took the lead with 3.9 seconds to go, Dayton dribbled to midcourt and called timeout with 1.6 left and for reasons unknown, the refs put an extra second back on the clock. Dayton threw the ball inbound along the sidelines, Dayton player bobbled it and dropped it out of bounds, ref inexplicably ruled it was off BSU. Reviews pretty clearly showed it never touched BSU player, refs still ruled replay inconclusive. Dayton throws inbound lob to the paint, Flyer player clears out with his off arm, catches and hits game-winner at the buzzer.
With games coming up at Northwestern and Purdue later, it's a good reminder that the old rule of "you need to be 10 points better on the road to avoid home cooking" still applies, apparently. To top it off, FTs were also 23-8 in favor of the Flyers, according to the box score.

Damn fat fingers...
The game I missed was Utah State at Weber State... and the VU opponent LOST that one...
Friday, November 10, 2017 Utah State 59 Weber State 65
which pushed the record to 14-6 for the first two days ...
Loyola won by only 27.... 96-69 over Eureka this afternoon... so make that 15-6 on the weekend... with only the Chicago State/Purdue game to go.
Boilers up 49-24 with 2:30 to play in the first half.
Valpo plays Purdue on 12/7. Purdue just beat Chicago State (who we just played in an exhibition) 111-42. The exhibition score was 77-42. I'm not necessarily expecting a win from that game but I'm hoping we have a strong showing vs Purdue later this season.

Wow!!! Great win for UWM
SE Louisiana losing to Tulane by that margin considering how favorable they are / were being considered this year.
And Northwestern only winning by 9 at Home while struggling in their first home game against Mercer I believe, given their ranking and returnees is very surprising as well.
Quote from: ValpoDad89 on November 13, 2017, 11:14:27 PMNorthwestern only winning by 9 at Home while struggling in their first home game against Mercer I believe,
Loyola, MD actually. I really think we can sneak into Rosemont and steal a win over a B1G team in a location closer to B1G headquarters than the Northwestern campus in Evanston.
Yep, 2 close wins at Rosemont to open their season
NU 79 Loyola(MD) 75 (Patriot)
NU 75 St.Peters 66 (Metro Atlantic)
Next NU home game in on the 15th vs. Creighton (Big East)
I hope so many of our brothers in arm make it up North 294 and get to this game and promote this team. I will be there in full Valpo garb and regalia!!!! I'll say this, NU could very well be vulnerable to what we bring to the table. The other thing is this, they beat Vandy in the NCAAs last year with a lesser team we will say. How does that not resonate with Bryce if we beat 'em on their modified home court!!!
I think I'll go with 20-5 and ignore the push. The Conference games would make that a nightmare to track...

Just saw highlights of the Marquette loss to Purdue. The most impressive picture was of the 8'0 300 lb. Purdue center (at least he looked that big in comparison to everyone else on the floor).
UPDATE AFTER I WENT TO THE PURDUE SITE:
That is Matt Haarms from Amsterdam, Netherlands. RS Freshman. 7'3, 250# So far in three games this season he has averaged 18.67 min/g
Vs. SIUE - 11pts, 5 RB
Vs. Chicago State - 9 pts, 7 RB
@. Marquette - 7pts, 3 RB
AS A FRESHMAN / 2016-17 (Purdue write up)
• Joined the team at the semester break, using his redshirt year.
• Went against Isaac Haas and Caleb Swanigan every day in practice.
• Has grown an inch and added about 20 pounds to his frame since his arrival at Purdue.
He looks like he could throw Jay and Derrik around like they were paper dolls.

I seem to remember someone who witnessed the Chicago State game (ok, mostly the second half) saying our defense will be suspect against talented big men. Maybe Marten Linssen will develop more defensively but I'm afraid it won't be by Pearl Harbor Day. Or we could have another Dec. 7th that will live in infamy.
Matt Haarms and Issac Haas are going to be a problem when we play them next month. Haarms moves really well for a big man and has some post moves. We're going to need our 7 footers to step up and just keep them in check and not get dominated on the boards.
The keys to success against that Purdue team is for the wings to absolutely go off be hot from 3 and get easy transition buckets. Watch two of Purdue's games so far and they look really good this year.

Oh, 2, Due to a power outage, Wednesday's scheduled men's basketball game between St. Bonaventure and Maryland Eastern Shore was cancelled.
Power was lost in the Reilly Center around 6:15 p.m. as the teams were preparing for a 7:00 tipoff. The outage also affected several other buildings on campus. Crews responded quickly to address the problem. At approximately 8:15, power was restored but only lasted for about five minutes. It was determined by 8:45 that it would not be possible to play the game. Power was still off as of 9:30 p.m.
During the outage, the Reilly Center's emergency lights remained on, powered by backup generators.
Officials from the schools have begun talks about a makeup date, but no decisions will be finalized until Thursday. In the event that the game is rescheduled and played in the Reilly Center, all tickets for would be good for that game only. If the game is not made up, St. Bonaventure will announce a refund/exchange policy to address this situation.

Look at it this way: most observers would agree that the MVC really only had a shot at one P5 upset (Indiana State over Auburn) which they didn't get. HOWEVER the MVC still got a P5 upset with Illinois State's surprising result against South Carolina. No fan of the MVC should be disappointed right now because I would argue that the day has gone BETTER than expected so far. In terms of overall magnitude and impression factor I think we can all agree that ILLINOIS State over South Carolina carries more weight than Indiana State over Auburn would have. Sure it would have been really nice to have both given how winnable the Sycamores game seemed to be but if we had to choose and be content with just one P5 victory today this would be the one to hope for and as good fortune would have it this is the one we got. Rejoice and be glad MVC fans for all is well! All is indeed very well right now! Keep it going! I'm so impressed with this conference (but not terribly surprised these teams have made a living for decades as giant killers and you had to think it was only a matter of time before this conference started getting back to better days. I'm just glad my Alma mater is now a part of this! Go Valpo! and Go MVC!

58-56 Boise State... so Lexus Williams gets to take on Illinois State tomorrow in the Semi-Finals. Boise scored 5 points in the final 13 seconds to win it.
Good we'd rather see them play a team from the Mountain West than a Conference USA team Better chance that win if they can get it is better for their metrics going forward
Good win by Illinois State and bad loss by Indiana State considering their blowout win to start the season against Indiana.
I think the loss to Auburn won't be as bad as I feel they will be very good this year. The win came against Indiana was good for their program and came at a time when Indiana was most vulnerable. I think Indiana, while not challenging for a B10 title will right their ship and be a decent RPI / Kenpom win. Disturbing is NU losing to a GOOD Creighton at home in a track meet. We will need to defend the perimeter BIG TIME against them at All State. We do that and we offensively attack the perimeter and play well down low can escape the Chi with a win.
And as a side note Welsh Ryan only seated around 8K (talk about facilities!!!) and they were lucky to have 4K fans in attendance last night against Creoghton at All State Arena and being a preseason Top 20 team (while Welsh Ryan goes through upgrades for those not in the know) again, agsinst a quality BE foe.
I say, when we play NU get your butts down from NW Indiana and let's support our Cru!!! I'm going for sure and tons of places around that you can hang before or after the game. Let's get some bodies there and possibly meet up in full Valpo regalia!!!!

More luster off UCR win over Cal, Chaminade just swatted the bears by 24
Yeah, UCR is not a good team, so that Cal win was a huge fluke. They are consistently in the bottom 50 teams each season.
On another note, I have a fond memory of the Maui Invitational I attended. My family took a trip to Hawaii/Maui during Thanksgiving break of my HS SO school year (1996-1997). We were not college basketball fans at that time, having grown up in TX (football, football, FOOTBALL!), so we had no idea that the Maui Invitational was taking place, or what it was. We were at our hotel and saw all of these really tall guys around the pools each day, and then signs starting popping up about the event starting in the coming days. We looked into it, and realized that Kansas, Cal, Iowa, LSU, UMass, South Carolina, and Virginia were all in town, with the host school called Chaminade (who?? lol). We saw Raef LaFrentz, Paul Pierce, Scott Pollard, Jacque Vaughn, Tony Gonzalez, and a few other folks that ended up playing at a very high level. That was a very cool experience, and you were right on top of the players as you watched the games. If you want to complain about the lack of A/C in the ARC, you should have been in that small Lahaina Civic Center for those games!
Valpotx, that sounds like a really neat experience. Thanks for sharing.
Valpotx, being a college hoops junkie since the late '70's and with this being "Maui" time, I always wanted to go and told my wife, if we ever get to Hawaii, we are going in late November...don't ask!!!
So glad you shared experience. If I never make it, I know I lived vicariously through a brother on the board.

Neutral court, but that means the Boilermakers are not invincible. And that means we might compete. And that means we have a chance. And that means a remotely possible W.
And that means............ we have TWO remotely possible Ws against 2 B1G teams.
But that is in the future. Go Valpo, beat Kent State!
Northwestern & Purdue are two good P5 teams that have chinks in the armor. On the right night we have a fighting chance. Let's take care of business in the Savannah Invitational tournament first against Kent State and UNCW.
I reiterate:

UIC is getting a beat down from their crosstown rival. UIC is playing without Tarkus Ferguson but still... Steve McClain is a bad coach. That team is playing way below their abilities. Credit to Loyola though.

Bradley has size and plays excellent defense. We are in a big boys league gents!!!
0.500 in the league is the likely outcome, anything better is overachieving.
I have no doubt our athleticism and defense will keep us in games, but our half court offense needs significant improvement. Are we going to suffer from 3-point range all season? I had hopes that Burton + Golder would get us Peters type % from deep.
For how nice Loyola's Arena is, they sure pulled a bone-head move by locating their media table in front of the student seating area.
That or they have one of college basketballs most annoying (non-stop yelling) fans. It's really hard to listen to their audio because the prepubescent moron is non-stop yelling.
This is their third game I've watched on replay while working out and man alive he needs to shut it!!!
Rant over....for now.

Starting at 80-50
Sunday, December 03, 2017 Samford loses to Jacksonville State 89-58 - LOSS
Sunday, December 03, 2017 SIU-Edwardsville loses to Fort Wayne 86-71 - LOSS

BRADLEY 21 SAN DIEGO STATE 37 1st 1:11
Looking ahead to tomorrow night... only one opponent game, and it the second time this season for this home-n-home.
Monday December 4, 2017 Missouri State at North Dakota State. MoSt favored by 1.5 even on the road.
Most RPI is 61, record is 6-2, NDSU RPI is 73, record is 3-4; NDSU won the first match on 11/17 57-54; lost to Mississippi State and Southern Cal, their SOS is 36.
Starting tonight, 81-53 on the MoSt game... and we have a Bears victory on the road, 71-58, Alize Johnson with 21 and 10.
the only other fun game to watch tonight would be to see if the Gators can knock off the undefeated 'Noles... even game late in the first half right now.
82-53 looking to Tuesday's matchups...doesn't look to promising after Evansville...although the falcons are favored by 3.5. ...
Tuesday, December 05, 2017 Ball State Notre Dame, Irish favored by 18
Tuesday, December 05, 2017 Evansville Bowling Green
Tuesday, December 05, 2017 Samford Memphis, Tigers favored by 9

Irish we knew who they were playing.
Ball State just can't put Notre Dame away. At one point the Cardinals we're up by 9 and other various totals but ND has come back each time. Irish down 2 under 4 minutes to go.
Wow! BSU pulls out 3 point win at South Bend.
I sure am glad we have that easy game with Ball St between the hard ones at Purdue and Northwestern! ;D

Ball State looked good. That whole team was playing out of its mind, specifically Tayler Persons who had 24 with the gaming winning shot. They looked good.
A nice little boost to the SOS for us. It would be a really nice win if we could steal one in Muncie against a good ball state squad.
Ball State pulls the 80-77 win
Evansville with a 91-76 win on the road at Bowling Green
Samford up 8 on Memphis with 11 to play...
what is going on here???
UCR later against Pepperdine
and then there were 12... ta ta Cavaliers... Huggins with a Best Virginia win.
Nova stays unbeaten
Nevada struggling against TTech
AZ'Cats up early at home on Texas A&M
Horned Frogs up early on the Mustangs
Duke is shooting St. Francis in the ASSisi. 71-34 at the half.... one point off the school's first-half record
Samford taking Memphis to the wire, our SOS is gaining leaps and bounds!
Ball State pulls the 80-77 win over Our Lady of South Bend
Evansville with a 91-76 win on the road at Bowling Green
#253 Samford was up 64-62 with 15 seconds left, with a chance at their first Road win of the year, gave up layup, and dribbled the inbounds pass of their own foot. Giving the tigers the ball, down 3 with 9.2 on the clock. Give up an offensive rebound and foul on the put-back with 2.5 to go... to lose it 65-64
Before the Samford game went final, VU was RPI 55 and SOS 274.
what is going on here???
right after the Samford game hits, Nolan boosts our RPI to 54 and the SOS to 266... not really a leap or a bound... but baby steps here and there help.
Come on Riverside... Ride the Wave ! [so Pepperdine is up 26-16 with 8 to play first half]
Undefeated? No More Nevada... then there were 11 Texas Tech took an OT, 82-76
Still UnDefeated

Villanova
In tough games:
TCU up 5 with 12 to play
Texas A&M down 3 with 11 to play

Evansville 91 BGSU 76 - WIN
Ball State 80 Notre Dame 77 - WIN
Memphis 65 Samford 64 - LOSS
Pepperdine 70 UC Riverside 59 - LOSS

Wednesday, December 06, 2017 UC Irvine Utah State Aggies favored by 7.5

last night we lost Virginia, Nevada and Texas A&M leaving:
1. Valparaiso 100.0%
1. Arizona State 100.0%
1. Duke 100.0%
1. Florida State 100.0%

Man! If I was Coach Padgett I would have been crying myself to sleep in my King size bed. Of course he played for the Jazz, Rockets, Nets and Grizzlies from 99 to 07. He knew a lot about losing.
Looks like Ball State fans have Valpo in its crosshairs now. Coming off that road win its going to loud and rowdy.

A Kent State showing will definitely help but watching this game I see X blowing the doors off the Cimtas Center.
Loyola up 3 over Florida at half
Halftime for Loyola at #5 Florida, and they looked very good leading by double digits most of the first half, but unfortunately their star guard, Custer, left with a bad ankle injury, and the lead has been cut to three. I hope Loyola pulls the upset, but I don't have a lot of confidence they can keep the lead in the second half without Custer.
While not teams we play, teams our opponents will play at least twice (Purdue and Northwestern)...Wisconsin loses to Temple 59-54 and Illinois losing at half to Austin Peay 28-26...and Illinois hasn't looked good at all this game in particular.

Loyola holds on to upset #5 Florida, 65-59. Great win for the Ramblers!
Nice win for Loyola. I'll be interested to see how Florida does the rest of the year. They've lost 3 straight now and play Cincinnati in cincy Saturday so its very likey they'll lose 4 straight. Maybe it was Loyola's defense but Florida didn't look very impressive.
WOW!!! Pal, great win for the Ramblers from Rogers Park!!!
Bad night for everyone else though. Yeesh.
Drake blown out by South Dakota
Illinois State getting run by BYU
Indiana State and Southern Illinois gave away games to North Texas and SLU.
At least the MVC got the big one that really mattered.
Big day tomorrow. In addition to our game against Purdue Northern Iowa plays UT-Arlington. A 2-0 night would be a huge statement for the league.

Florida's too dependent upon the 3 and their shooters have been in and out. They get their Center Egbunu back within a month and they may be a bit better when he's back. They have their 5th year transfer Egor from Rice playing underneath too much at 6'5"
Nontheless a good win for Loyola
On the flip side JD24, the Loyola win stands and Egbunu coming back makes them stronger going into their conference which will have a positive impact on that win and RPI / KenPom overall. It's up to Valpo to capitalize on that. Good showing against Purdue and beat NU and maybe we have an at large resume. A big IF and probably out of the realm of possibility but hopefully their win lite the MVC on the map.
Playing in this conference will only pay dividends as we would not have a conference win like that unless we took the bull by the horns.
86-60 going into Thursday
Only one game...
Northern Iowa 62 UT-San Antonio 58... UTSA falls to 7-2 on the season, nice MVC MidMajor win here. up to 87-60
on Friday...
Air Force at UC Riverside...AFA giving 1.5 on the road in that one
Hampton at Missouri State, no line on that one... the Bears will handle that one easily...

except that the Bears are playing at the Maybe Center, on Friday night, ORU lost to D2 Missouri Baptist.
RPI has climbed back up to 68, but the SOS has fallen back to 208... NCW losing and Purdue playing EwwyPewwy won't help.
oh. looking back at yesterdays troubles... one of the upsets was Santa Clara losing... again..
Portland State hits final 16 FGs, beats Santa Clara 87-84
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Deontae North scored 25 of his career-high-tying 30 points in the second half and Portland State ended the game with 16 consecutive field goals to rally past Santa Clara 87-84 on Saturday night.

Dubuque 47 Northern Iowa 80 WIN
IUPUI 61 Purdue 86 WIN
Missouri State 66 Oral Roberts 73 LOSS
South Alabama 75 SIU-Edwardsville 76 WIN

Why? Bradley can beat Ole Miss who is 6-5 with losses to Mid Tenn and IL State
Ball State should be a win
Drake should win
Northwestern should win
UC Riverside should be favored
UNC Wilmington could win. UTEP is 5-6 and recentlt lost their head coach
With any luck that could be 6 wins!
I believe UNCW is actually playing Howard tonight (at UTEP). That's a win.

At Oklahoma? OU beat WSU by 8 in Wichita on Saturday. Northwestern could win, but I'd think OU will be at least an 8 point favorite.

Though OK hasn't really played a tough schedule, they did beat Wichita State. I'll agree it should a "could win" not a "should win"!
And I missed the indiana state game with elon, should be a win. Drake and Ball state are favored
UCR has no line vs D2 Merced. Seahawks are favored by 1 over winless Howard. So maybe 5 Ws.
Sooner schooner favored by 7.
Sorry to report 72,but at the half, Okie 68_38 on Northwestern And, ole miss up on Bradley 40_20.

Northwestern was without Vic Law tonight. Law was their leading scorer in the game against Valpo.
UCR,drake, Ball state are the three winners. Even UNCW lost to Howard.
Nice win for the salukis over Duquesne by10. Merry Christmas! Done til after the holiday.
I think the strangest stat I heard while traveling on the radio was Northwestern shot 1 for 9 against Lewis from three in the 1st half. How do P5 teams shoot so well against Valpo and then have poorer shooting nights against lesser teams. Was it the double teaming of the big men?
SE LA with a big win against SF Austin.
Picking up since Christmas...

156-123 starting this week...
Tuesday projects to be a 2-1 night
Wednesday projects to be a 3-1 night
Thursday projects to be... 0-4
so a 5-6 week if the projections are accurate... our SOS could use some help ! (Oh, beating the Bears would help, too)

Central Michigan 76 Ball State 82 WIN
Drake 54 Northern Iowa 68 PUSH

Wisconsin 50 Purdue 78 WIN
159-123...and with these three wins...Valpo's RPI climbs from 142 to 139; and the SOS climbs from 178 to 169... a win tomorrow against RPI #59 MoSt would be really great !
For those interested... YES the teams flight did get out of Porter County Regional
https://flightaware.com/live/flight/FRG481
Let's bring home a Win on the return flight!
159-123 going into Wednesday... and the machines were Wrongo!!
Wednesday, January 17, 2018
Bradley Illinois State Braves favored by 1 or Redbirds favored by 4, ISU 70-57 - Push
CSU - Northridge UC Riverside Highlanders favored by 10 or 12; wrongo! The Matadors won 66-57 - LOSS
Houston Baptist Southeastern Louisiana Lions favored by 9 or 14; SELA 85-69 - WIN

Southern Illinois Loyola Ramblers favored by 8 or 14, Ramblers go to 14-4 on the year, 79-65 - PUSH
Utah State Boise State Lexus favored by 15 or 18, Blue Smurfs win it 71-67
Let me throw some salt on that wound that is free throw shooting.... from that recap of the Boise State win...
Hutchinson's mid-range jumper with 15 seconds left made it 69-65, but Utah State closed to 69-67 on Koby McEwen's layup. Lexus Williams iced it for the Broncos with two free throws.
so the Opposition goes 1-3 on the night...
season record now 160-126... and in the 4 games Thursday night, our opponents are not favored in any of them.
Valpo's RPI Thursday morning is 140, with an SOS of 159; it helps that MoSt's RPI was 58 going into the game, they climbed to 57.
and the VU team was back in Valpo before midnight...
https://flightaware.com/live/flight/FRG481
160-126 going into Thursday's action... projections were an 0-4 night... but the Bronco's saved us with a road win over the Dons...
Santa Clara 65 San Francisco 62 WIN
Southeast Missouri 86 SIU-Edwardsville 74 LOSS
UNC-Wilmington 76 Charleston 80 LOSS
Wofford 93 Samford 89 LOSS
So we start Friday action with 161-129 record, and RPI at 141 and an SOS of 154
None of our opponents are in action today... so any changes will be to the 4th decimal point in the total number...(0.5150 now)
Tomorrow could see some movement in the RPI...the two game-spreads are from Warren Nolan and Nolan's ELO number... Looks like we might pick up 5 or 6 W's.
Ball State Miami (OH) RedHawks by 1 or Cardinals by 10
Gonzaga Santa Clara Bulldogs by 23 or 25 (I'm guessing more than that after what SMC did to Zags last night)
Kent State Toledo Rockets by 10 or 9
Northwestern State Southeastern Louisiana Lions by 18
Penn State Northwestern Wildcats by 1 or 8
Purdue Iowa Boilers by 14 or 22
Samford Furman Paladins by 18

and these "Pushes"
Missouri State Drake Bears by 3 or 6

Illinois State Indiana State Redbirds by 6 or Sycs by 6
No OOC games on tap for Sunday... Northern Iowa is at Carbondale and it's a 3-point game either way.
Nolan says the Ramblers win by either 1 or 9 on Sunday afternoon. Let's Pack the ARC... and prove them wrong!
So we start Saturday action with 161-129 record, and RPI at 142 and an SOS of 157... tiny slip from Thursday night end...
Ball State Miami (OH) RedHawks by 1 or Cardinals by 10...MOH takes it by 18, 71-53 - LOSS
Northwestern State Southeastern Louisiana Lions by 18,and SELA 85-58 - WIN
Penn State Northwestern Wildcats by 1 or 8, Cats come from 10 back to win 70-61 - WIN

Samford Furman Paladins by 18- Furman didn't cover, but won 78-67 - LOSS
UT Martin SIU-Edwardsville Skyhawks by 2 or Cougars by 8- UTM ekes out 70-69 - LOSS
3-wins, 3 losses, with these 4 not decided yet...
Valpo sits at .5134, and RPI 148, SOS 165.. Need to pick off a couple of these for us to move up...
Kent State Toledo Rockets by 10 or 9 - Tied up at 30 at the half
Towson UNC-Wilmington Tigers by 11 or 8 - Towson up 36-31 at the half
Wyoming Utah State Aggies by 3 or Pickem - Tipping off at 8CT
Gonzaga Santa Clara Bulldogs by 23 or 25 - Just tipped off
The Valley games...
Sycamores by 30, yes, THIRTY over Illinois state 85-54
Drake at Home over MoSt...61-58
Evansville and Bradley just getting underway...
Purdue blew away Iowa and let them close the gap late. At one point they led Iowa 74 to 42 or similar just like thrashimg.of Minnesota..Just dominant.
Not so surprising we lost 80 to 50 with young big and a Tevonn beginning mono.

UT Martin SIU-Edwardsville Skyhawks by 2 or Cougars by 8- UTM ekes out 70-69 - LOSS
3-wins, 3 losses, with these 4 not decided yet...
Valpo sits at .5134, and RPI 148, SOS 165.. Need to pick off a couple of these for us to move up...
Kent State Toledo Rockets by 10 or 9 - Rockets win 72-665 - LOSS
Towson UNC-Wilmington Tigers by 11 or 8 - Seahawks come back in the second half to take it 73-71 - WIN
Wyoming Utah State Aggies by 3 or Pickem - Cowboys win 85-77 - LOSS
Gonzaga Santa Clara Bulldogs by 23 or 25 - the visitors take it but don't cover 75-60 - LOSS
so 4-6 on the day
The Valley games...
Sycamores by 30, yes, THIRTY over Illinois state 85-54
Drake at Home over MoSt...61-58
Evansville at Bradley and the home team takes it 66-53..
and Valpo's RPI drops to #147 (.5135) SOS 158. We have the LOWEST RPI in the Valley. But with the unbalanced schedule, it's understandable. Just playing Loyola will help Valpo's RPI...and a win would be a BIG help...
LOYOL 5-2 67 VALPO 0-0
MO ST 5-3 69 VALPO 0-2
ILLST 4-4 94 VALPO 0-0

Thursday, January 25, 2018 SIU-Edwardsville Tennessee State - Tigers favored by 11 or 8
and no Friday games, either.
actually, it's two pushes... and the Kent State win in OT over Ball State is better for us, since we've had more opponents play Kent State than Ball State.... and we climbed back up to 159 RPI, .5073; and SOS of 139.
However, we may fall back down if Minnesota holds their 6-pt halftime lead over the wildcats...
However, we may fall back down, since Bradley is SPANKING Missiouri State by 20 with 30 seconds to play...
and just like that... 3 minutes after the previous post... we are right back at 161 #.5062 (SOS 140) with the 72-52 Bradley win (we've played them once and MoSt twice)... this is why I'm not a day-trader in the stock market...
... and on a side note... Homer Drew's Alma Mater, William Jewell, beat UMKC (4-15) 86-74...

how about the endings of the Vandy-KY and Baylor-OK games? Both games lost in by the Drews in the final seconds on missed free throws...(and Vandy committing a foul with 2-seconds on the clock 65-feet from the basket)...Snake Bit.

Did you notice that at least two 3 point shooters got fouled in that Vandy/UK game too?
Where are the fundamentals actually being emphasized?

UNC-Wilmington 76 Hofstra 96 Yup... both teams lost by the identical score.

Tennessee Tech SIU-Edwardsville Golden Eagles up 10 with 9 to play
Northwestern Wisconsin 'Cats up 11 at the half
Pacific Santa Clara Tip Off is 11pm Central
Samford hurts us because not only did we play them... but so did Loyola and SELouisiana... and both us an Loyola also played UNCW thanks to the Savannah Tournament for the stellar opposition down there. Kent State is the other common opponent we have, the flashes lost to Valpo, Loyola and SELa in that same tournament, so their wins / losses are a triple whammy.
SIUE also played Purdue and Southern Illinois
We have no other common opponents with the other teams playing tonight.
181-150 with these three games to go last night...
Tennessee Tech 68 SIU-Edwardsville 67...LOSS
Northwestern 52 Wisconsin 60 - WIN
Pacific 63 Santa Clara 45 - LOSS
that SIUE game was pretty intense....It came down to the final play, but the Tennessee Tech men's basketball team held on for its third straight victory Thursday evening, edging SIUE in the Vadalabene Center, 68-67.
The hometown Cougars had one opportunity with a chance to win, inbounding the ball from half court with 1.6 seconds to play. The Tech defense held strong, not allowing the ball in right away and getting a hand in the face of SIUE's David McFarland, whose 3-point attempt rattled off the iron to preserve the visitor's victory.
The Golden Eagles moved to 16-8 overall and 8-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference standings, SIUE fell to 7-15 on the year, with a 3-8 mark in league play.
Looking ahead for the weekend... 182-152, the RPI is at 182, .4939, and SOS of 145 ... no OOC opponents in action Tonight.

We played Wisconsin?
Not this season but we did lose by over 30 to Northwestern at All-State Arena in Rosemont. It was a numbing night as Northwestern couldn't seem to miss in the first half.
I suppose you were referring to the fact that it was counted as a win which it was since Northwestern actually won this game 60 - 52.
Oh, just a score mistake.

Not all the game scores are in... but one cancelation is in... not weather related...
James Madison University has postponed its home basketball game against UNCW on Thursday, Feb. 8, and its away game against Elon on Saturday, Feb. 10. The games are being postponed due to suspected cases of mumps affecting the team and due to concerns for potential exposure to opposing players.
Within the JMU coaching staff, there is one confirmed case of mumps and one probable case in an individual who has since recovered. Two other individuals have been identified as suspected cases of mumps with no confirmed diagnosis at this time. At this point, there is one possible case affecting a student-athlete. Confirmatory testing has been initiated. As a precaution, all student-athletes and associated personnel related to both men's and women's JMU basketball programs have received MMR booster injections. There are no suspected cases among the general student population.
JMU Athletics continues to work closely with health officials regarding best practices for treatment and limiting exposure. The department is working closely with the Colonial Athletic Association and all upcoming basketball opponents to make appropriate precautionary decisions regarding contests in the near future. Rescheduled dates for the two postponed games will be communicated as more information is available.

Evansville took 49 shots and wasn't fouled once? The home team shoots 19 free throws to 0 for the visiting team and wins by 6 points. :-X

Youngstown State 75 Oakland 73 - Garrett Covington's putback spun through the hoop as the horn sounded and Youngstown State scored the final nine points to storm back, defeating the Golden Grizzlies in Youngstown for the first time in 17 years.
Vandy 81 Mississippi State 80 Riley LaChance swished a 3-pointer from the top of the key with .5 seconds left for the Commodores
Valpo's Real Time RPI projections:
02-17 Bradley 17-10 (8-7) 102 69-66 W - Scouting
02-20 Northern Iowa 11-14 (5-10) 156 67-65 W - Scouting
02-24 at Drake 14-13 (9-6) 141 70-81 L - Scouting
Looking at our 6-0 start, (I don't consider North Park and Trinity real wins. Plus they inflate our stats) it seems like we played a cupcake non-conference schedule. Don't know if that did us any favors for playing in the MVC.
Our first 6 non-conference D1 opponents have an average KenPom rank of 239. Our next 5 non-conference D1 opponents have an average KenPom rank of 162. The nine other MVC schools have an average KenPom rank of 126.
Given that we had a young team with a lot of new players, that seems like a pretty reasonable progression to me.
PS - Always nice to talk Valpo hoops with you mj!
199-170 coming in ... and the opponents go 3-1 on the day... with the big upset being the only loss...

Who would have thought that SE LA would win the Southland regular season title, after that beat-down we put on them? Congrats to the Lions for closing out the season with 8 straight wins!

If we were in the Southland we'd probably win the Southland even in our rebuild year. No disrespect to that conference but it's a low major conference. There are a few nice teams in that conference like Stephen F. Austin, but it's just a peg below.

Sure, a peg below The Horizon! I just checked the Sagarin rankings and Southland is 29th of 32. The Horizon is 24 of 32 and the conference where Belmont hides is one step below the Horizon at number 25. The Valley? 10th.
