======================================================

SELA Lions... so far this year:

Two exhibition games, the Jackton State game was a "Hurricane Relief" game, they won 57-51 at Jackson State; and Hosted William Carey College and won 80-71 at home.

Opened with a win over the Gents of Centenary at home 99-67

Centenary           40   27   67     0-1
Southeastern La.   53   46   99   1-0

Southeastern Louisiana had five players in double figures in scoring its most points in a season opener in eight years in a 99-67 victory over Centenary Friday night in the University Center.

The Lions matched the 99 points they scored in a 99-50 win over the University of Science and Arts to open the 2009-10 campaign.

Senior guard Eddy Polanco led Southeastern (1-0) with 18 points. Junior guard Marlain Veal tossed in 17 points and had six assists while senior forward Jordan Capps, seeing his first action in nearly a year, added 14 points. Senior guard Jabbar Singleton contributed 12 points and senior forward James Currington 10. Junior forward Moses Greenwood had a game-high nine rebounds for the Lions who shot 53.7 percent from the field and out-rebounded Centenary 36-25. Southeastern was also 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) on 3-pointers and 31-of-39 (79.5 percent) from the line.

The game counted as an exhibition for Centenary. Cedric Harris had a game-high 21 points for the Gents. Travion Kirkendoll added 12 points and Neil Hawkins 10. Centenary shot 47.1 percent overall.

Polanco scored 16 points as Southeastern took a 53-40 lead into the half. Centenary continued to hang around in the opening minutes of the second half with a 3-pointer by Harris cutting the deficit to 62-51 with 12:42 left. But a 3-pointer by junior guard D'Angelo West started a 20-0 run for Southeastern at the 10:06 mark. Currington scored six straight points, redshirt freshman Brandon Gonzalez knocked down a 3 and Capps capped the run with a dunk and a layup to give the Lions an 82-51 lead with 6:10 remaining.

Southeastern got out to a 13-5 lead on Singleton's 3 with 17:36 left in the opening half. Centenary countered with an 11-2 run to take its only lead at 16-15 on a Harris jumper at the 16:33 mark. A pair of Currington free throws started a 6-0 run for the Lions with two free throws by Polanco making it 22-16 with 15:11 left.

Veal lofted a pass to Greenwood for a dunk to give Southeastern a 27-18 lead with 12:43 remaining. Harris trimmed the margin to 29-26 with a 3 with 10:28 left. Another 3 by Kirkendoll made it 35-33 at the 5:27 mark. Polanco responded with eight straight points and Capps added two free throws to push the Lions' lead up to 45-35 with 2:44 left. West knocked down a 3 for his first points as a Lion to make it 51-37 with 37 seconds remaining.

NOTES:
Southeastern defeated Centenary for the first time since 1997 and got its first home win over the Gents since an 89-77 win in 1996. Centenary leads the series 24-20.

Southeastern won its second straight opener, the first time the Lions have done so since the 2009-10 and '10-11 seasons. Southeastern is now 35-35 in openers.

The Lions won their 12th straight home opener.

Capps saw his first action since Nov. 14, 2016 at Tulane. Charleston, who played in both of the Lions' exhibitions, played in his first regular season game since Dec. 4, 2015 against Southern.

West, Gonzalez and senior guard Quinton Thomas all made their regular season debuts for Southeastern.

QUOTES:
Southeastern head coach Jay Ladner:
On pulling away in the second half:
"I thought as we began to settle down in the last four minutes of the first half, we finally began to get into a rhythm offensively. We were forcing things too much those first 16 minutes. Once we settled down there and as the game went on, our defensive pressure just wore them down and they began to turn the basketball over kind of in some flurries that we were able to take in and convert and bust the game open. I was proud of the way we played in the second half compared to the last game (the exhibition against William Carey)."

On getting contributions throughout the lineup...
"I was very encouraged by some guys who got some minutes. Brandon Gonzalez, D'Angelo West, Quinton Thomas - I thought those guys came in and played well. As we go through the basketball season, it's such a marathon, so having good quality depth is important. It was good having Jordan back. It's his first action in almost a year. I thought that first time through he was really rusty but basketball takes time and as the game went on, I thought he began to look more like himself."
==============================

Southeastern La.   36   30   66   1-1
Tulane              44    45    89     2-0

Then on Monday, they traveled to Tulane and the wave beat them like a drum 89-66.  Tulane shot 59.6 percent from the field, including 61.5 percent in the first half, in taking an 89-66 non-conference victory over Southeastern Louisiana Monday night in Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.

Junior guard Marlain Veal led the Lions (1-1) with 26 points, three assists and four steals. Junior forward Moses Greenwood had a team-high nine rebounds while adding nine points. Senior forward Jordan Capps tossed in eight points and senior guard Jabbar Singleton seven. Southeastern shot 35.4 percent (23-of-65) while grabbing 39 rebounds.

Melvin Frazier had a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds for Tulane (2-0), which won its third straight over Southeastern. Ray Ona Embo (14 points), Cameron Reynolds (13) and Blake Paul (10) were also in double figures for the Green Wave, who made 31 of their 52 shots and had 41 rebounds.

Tulane made 16 of its 26 shots in the first half to take a 44-36 lead at the break. The Green Wave then opened the second half on a 14-4 run, taking a 58-40 advantage on Ona Embo jumper at the 16:43 mark. Senior guard Quinton Thomas buried a 3 from the right side for his first points as a Lion to make it 60-44 with 13:45 left. But Reynolds answered with a 3 to extend the Wave lead to 65-45 with 12:30 remaining. A Colin Slater layup gave Tulane its biggest lead at 85-61 with 4:09 left.

Tulane jumped out to a 16-6 lead at the 13:55 mark behind dunks by Ona Embo and Frazier. Veal drained a 3 to cut the deficit to 16-9 with 13:14 left.

A three-point play following a Reynolds layup gave Tulane its biggest lead of the half at 33-18 with 6:17 remaining. Southeastern responded with a 9-2 run to get to within 35-27 with 3:34 left on a Singleton 3. Tulane pushed the lead back to 39-28 on a 3 by Caleb Daniels at the 2:27 mark. Senior forward James Currington drove in for a layup to cut the margin to five but Frazier hit a 3 with 2 seconds left to give the Wave the 44-36 halftime lead.

NOTES:
Tulane now leads the series 10-2.

Veal was 11-of-21 from the field, tying a career high for field goals. He also had 11 against Central Arkansas on Feb. 22.

QUOTES:
Southeastern head coach Jay Ladner:
"I thought we did a good job of hanging in there. We cut the deficit to five and then we gave up a wide-open 3 at the end of the half. But credit Tulane. They have a good basketball team."

On the defensive effort...
"Our defense has to set the tone for us and I thought that was one of the weakest defensive efforts we've had in a long time. We didn't play with any energy. It was very disappointing."
==========

Four of the players have started both games:

0 - Veal - 5-9 145 Guard  (Third Team All-Southland Conference Player last year)
5 - Singleton - 5-11 190 Guard
10- Polanco - 6-3 195
24- Charleston 6-8

21 Capps started the Tulane game, was first off the bench vs. Centenary, 6-7
23 Currington started the Centenary Game, was first off the bench vs. Tulane, 6-8

Oddity:  They have no numbers on their roster higher than 24.

Sagarin:   271, going into their game on Thursday at UL-Monroe.
RealTime RPI has them at #72...

They are in the Savannah Tournament... and will get 3 road games for their efforts in the tourney, after Valpo, they head to Kent State on Tuesday 11/21 and then to Birmingham for the Savannah Tournament bottom bracket against Samford on Friday 11/24... ending with a game with Mississippi Valley State on 11/25.

In case you haven't followed the last 10+ years in conference/school movement, Centenary is now D-3, so that win is not impressive.

While I applaud the idea of this promotion, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense without fan accessible wifi. I barely get a 3G signal in the ARC.

Is it not open? I use the secured staff network, but I thought most of campus had a guest-accessible network.

This is most likely by design.  You wouldn't want townspeople or alunmni supporting the team in person to actually win these prizes, would you?

The wifi at the arc through VU doesn't let you do anything. I've connected to it and I get an error code or blocked message if I try to use twitter, facebook Instagram or safari. So basically it doesn't work. But Hey You Can Connect so that means they supply free wifi.

Last night the live stats page was a few seconds ahead of the video feed.  Yes, it is a nice feature to have.

The ESPN TV games are delayed about 30 seconds... the stats pages is much more "real-time"... and the radio station feed is delayed about 7 seconds.   Watch the stats change, listen to the call on the radio, and if it sounds exciting, you can lookup at the TV to see what the excitement was all about.    This allows you to play Candyland with a 3-year-old while the game is on.

I've alway wanted an option where you could delay the Radio broadcast a few seconds and sync it up with the video stream broadcast so I could listen to Todd call the game instead of hearing the TV broadcasters if Todd isn't on the TV broadcast. If any tech people could figure that out that would be great.

They've been disappointing early on. The only way SELA wins this game is if Marlain Veal absolutely goes off. He's had a very strange first 3 games. 2 games he's only had 6 FG attempts but the Tulane game they just let him take charge for 21 FGA for 26 pts, but they still lost 89-66. Tulane isn't that great of a team.

Southeastern head coach Jay Ladner:
On Valparaiso...
"Valparaiso has a great basketball tradition. They are big, talented, well-coached guys who have a high basketball IQ. They have several 7-footers, including Derrik Smits. We don't have those big, ole boys down here in Louisiana and Mississippi. They are big and very good. We are going to have our hands full but we're looking forward to getting back on the court. It's going to be a great challenge for us."

On the Lions creating free throw attempts...
"I knew we were doing a good job of getting to the line. That is one of the things we want to do by pumping the ball inside, either by the pass or driving the ball."

On both teams creating turnovers...
"That is certainly important to us, being able to force turnovers and get our hands on the ball and I know it is for them as well after watching them on film. They do a great job. We're just going to have to play smarter, play better, a little bit tougher, but I have been pleased with our progress so far."

Keys to the game:
-Contain Marlain Veal. Veal is their tiny but explosive PG
-Don't leave Eddy Polanco alone behind the 3pt line. He's sharp shooter (3PM: 2.0 - 3PM: 3.3) 60%(!) 3pt shooter and he gets to the foul line and makes them 5.7-5.7 FT% 100% through 3 games.
-Jordan Capps is another player that is a threat. He's got off to slow start the first 3 games.
-Our bigs will need to use their size to alter Veal's drives to the hoop and make it tough on him. Limit their second chance attempts.

SELA legitimately has offensive threats but they've under performed. Let's hope the guys aren't sleeping on this team and take care of business early. Let's not let this be a "trap game".

Halftime: Valparaiso 32, SELA 22

Not a great offensive game in that first half but it picked up a little bit at the end there. Burton & Smits were both solid offensively. Too many turnover (9).

A very accurate statement from Paul. These games on Fall Break when the students aren't there make me nervous. There is also a ton of competition for eyeballs tonight with the NFL.

Halftime rant, apologies.

1) Smits and Sorolla are having great difficulty to start the season.  I want to chalk it up to our competition (small and athletic) but that's harder and harder to do.  I want to see how they fair against similar size, but I'm REALLY nervous with these two.

2) PF positionis young, so I will hold back my opinions today.

3) Thoroughly enjoying our steals and lock-down perimeter defense.  But why do we double on drives?  How many times can we give up easy layups on a Sorolla/Smits overhelp?  They leave their man wide open for the layup.  This is not their faults, as even world beating Vashil had this happen to him.  I'm flummoxed here, who can shed more light on our options in such scenarios?  It seems we are resigned to giving up 3-4 buckets a game with this over-help scenario.  Am I wrong on this point?

Appreciate y'alls thoughts...

The Defensive rebounding has been piss poor at times this season. We can't be giving these second chances... its literally giving SELA a run right now.

The youth and inexperience of our power forwards are a legitimate concern right now. Once we start playing tougher competition we are going to need them to show more life offensively.

Max Joseph needs to clean up his passes. He's getting a little careless and you can't have that from a point guard.

Big time agree here!  He's forcing things which his lack of athleticism can't backup.  Needs to be a calming (nuts and bolts) contributor.  Rebound, pass and defend.

This is probably the first time this season where we could actually see the depth come into play. For obvious reasons I wasn't happy with how close the game was for 30 minutes but we really did pour it on in the last half because everyone was rested

Nice win after a very slow start.  Derrik looks so much better than last year.  I wonder if we will see a new starting lineup of Derrik, Joe, Bakari, Marcus (at the 4) and Tevonn.

Bravo to the Valpo bench. They really stepped up.

This game was closer then it looked for a large portion of this game. We really broke away in that second half. Bench guys like Derrik, Kiser, and Golder really were unsung heroes of this game. They brought energy and were strong today. Burton had a strong offensive night. A huge break away dunk.

It was interesting to see that coach was play Golder at the 4 at one point and he wasn't bad, but we're not going to be able to do that every game. We need Parker/McMillan/Linssen to bring a little to the table. They are very early in their careers but it would nice to see one of them step up a little bit. Parker is probably the most reliable on the defensive/rebounding side of the game but he's still figuring things out offensively which is somewhat expected.

Paul says it best here:

I hope Matt is driving home that there are no "starters" just beginners.  This group rotates so deep that it machs nichts!  But in my mind Marcus is the purest athlete in the whole bunch.  What a find.  He finds ways, without forcing or playing out of the system, to make a difference whenever he is on the floor.

Kizer brought his lunch box (and a couple of treys)
Micah was explosive.
Derrik seems to be improving each game.
Jay seems so much smoother and runs the floor well.

SELAU averaged 80 ppg coming in and left scoring only 50.  Does Valpo play defense?

We are a long way from knowing just how good this team can be but everybody including the freshmen are meeting or exceeding my minimum expectations. The only downside to their performance to date is that my 5-3 November prediction is now looking just a wee bit shaky.  What in the world was I thinking or drinking ???

A lot of TOs but another blow out win. Expecting a similar result against Samford and then the weekend games with uncw and Kent state may be closer, but hoping we go undefeated in november.

We may not see it often but the line up of Tevonn, Markus, Bakari, Joe, and Derrik looked pretty lethal out there.

4 real athletes who can run, shoot, rebound and play D, and a big who is improving in all of those phases. Not a bad bunch. Or ...... are they actually the "Bad Bunch"?

Reserves spark Valparaiso to blowout victory
Paul Oren Times Correspondent
Nov 19, 2017

VALPARAISO — Facing adversity for this first time this season, Valparaiso men's basketball coach Matt Lottich looked for a spark from an unlikely place.

The second-year coach went to his bench early in the second half on Sunday afternoon and the reserves helped turn a four-point lead into a 33-point rout as the Crusaders blasted Southeastern Louisiana 83-50 in the first game of the Savannah Invitational at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

No ordinary Joe: Burton powers Valparaiso past Southeastern Louisiana
Michael Osipoff
Post-Tribune
Nov 19, 2017

Valparaiso junior Joe Burton wasn't necessarily looking to score from the outset Sunday against Southeastern Louisiana.

But the 6-foot-6 swingman still had 18 points as the Crusaders pulled away for an 83-50 win at the Athletics-Recreation Center as part of the Savannah Invitational.

Burton shot 8-for-11, adding four rebounds and three assists. In his Valparaiso debut at Southern Illinois Edwardsville after serving his two-game suspension, the Oklahoma State transfer had seven points, all in the waning minutes.

Great defensive effort for the most part.  It still amazes me how Smits never works jumping for a rebound .  I thought our 2 bigs were very lacking in rebounding effort and effectiveness. When the 6-3 and 6-5 guys are outworking and out-rebounding  JS and DS, something is lacking.  Our 2 guys were by far the biggest guys on the court.  Smits at times appears to swat and tip rebounds rather than putting forth a good effort in grabbing them.  Smits did get better as the game progressed however.

Today's game was VERY disappointing in a number of respects, especially in the following...our terrible sound system showed forth in all its glory today.   And the stand-in PA guy should have stayed home.  The scoreboard operations were a bust also.  I sure hope there were no MVC people there today because we looked like a bad Div 3 program.  Today we looked a long way from a MVC operation.  Come on Athletic Dept...let's get it together.  How long does it take to get these basic things in order?

Controlled swats are equal to controlled rebounds even if they are credited to someone else or show up as a team rebound. Personally I love them.     With his wingspan and downward angled court vision Derrik is going to produce a lot of them so you better start learning to like them.  ;)

I was big on Vashil during his early struggles, and remain big on Smits, as well.  These big guys were overlooked by bigger programs for a reason.  They had yet to grow into their bodies, and find out how to play against teams that use their height against them.  He will be a fantastic Crusader over the next 2 1/2 seasons.

I agree. The PA system continues to sound like crap. However, when John Kiser sang "Sweet Caroline" on the big board during a timeout, the volume briefly hit the right level. Many years ago I worked as a sound man for rock bands, and on a very limited budget I could raise the sound level with a proper mix high enough to shake the buildings in which the concerts took place. I have also attended concerts in the ARC over the years that had great sound. Hell, the only thing I appreciated about the Family Express commercials last year was the loud sound level. I don't understand why the PA sound system can't be boosted and clear?

Great point ValpoTX. Smits isn't a finished product right now but you can definitely tell there have been improvements from last year to this year. Big guys generally take the longest amount of time to develop. Smits and Vashil have two different skill set but I'd argue Smits is further along in his development then Vashil was when he was a Sophomore. For the most part of Vashil's first two years he looked like a 7 foot Bambi on the court and got into foul trouble. But you still could see the progression each year.

The rebounding skills are sometimes frustrating when I watch them, but that will get better with time. I'd say I've seen more progression from Smits then Sorolla thus far (its only been 2 games), although J had a heck of a post move today and you saw a glimpse of J's ultimate potential.

The field goal % from the bigs has been fantastic in the early going (against mostly shorter competition), particularly from Smits 17-21 on the season. Sorola 5-9 (1-3 today in 14 minutes).

The team only got to the foul line 10 times but was 9-10.

Valparaiso Pulls Away from Lions Late in Savannah Invite

http://www.lionsports.net/news/2017/11/19/mens-basketball-valparaiso-pulls-away-from-lions-late-in-savannah-invite.aspx

QUOTES:
   Southeastern head coach Jay Ladner:
"You have to give them credit, first of all. They are an outstanding team, very well-coached, huge. But I thought our guys fought tooth and nail. With 12 minutes left, it was anybody's game. I don't know at that point when they came down and hit a couple of 3s and it stretched the lead real quick, if that broke our back. I have to go back and look at the film to see kind of see what went on right there. I was disappointed with the way the game ended but I don't think anybody would think that was indicative of how the game was played."

With Smits right now, it seems to be an argument of whether the glass is half empty or half full. He does look better on offense - not just with the shooting percentage, but with his positioning and footwork. As Todd mentioned during the broadcast, Valpo's guards need to work on entry passes in the half court. Smits rebounding and defense still need a lot of work. Good rebounders are selfish, they get the ball on the defensive end from everyone including their teammates. Smits needs to get position better on defense as well.

When Valpo starts playing higher quality teams, I see the 4 as being the big problem right now. Lots of raw talent, but no one who can play effective minutes. There is a trend toward teams playing 'four guard' lineups, but to be effective with that you need guards that rebound well (I would say Valpo has one - Tevonn), a faster pace of play (possible, given the quality of Evelyn at the point), and solid three point shooting (questionable). Still, the ability to win tight conference games may come down to improving play at the traditional 4 and 5 spots. Bottom line: keep working Hazen, McMillen and Linssen to see if one develops.

A few other thoughts:
-Evelyn: He looks really good at point guard, but want to see him against better competition. Very promising.
-Kiser: You have got to love a guy who gets everything he can from what he has to work with. It is clear that he worked to develop a three point shot. I cannot see him playing 20+ minutes, but you know you'll get everything he's got to give for 8-12 minutes per game.
-Burton: Clearly an athlete, but a few things sort of stick out. 1. he does not seem to be integrated with the offensive sets in the half court, 2. why does he shoot a set shot from three? On the latter point, he is not going to get that much room against better and longer guards as the season moves forward.
-Golder: Get him on the court more. Great athlete who seems to have the potential to learn quickly.
-(as stated in previous posts) perimeter defense looks good so far, interior defense needs work.

I would hope that no promise like this was made. Good coaches do not do that. I think it just comes down to, "we're going to start a true 4 and it just happens to be Hazen right now". If McMillen or Linssen earn the start, they will get it. And I agree wholeheartedly that Matt is likely driving home a 'no starters, just beginners" message.

The attendance was listed as 2,651 for yesterday's game. I was only watching on the stream but the crowd looked fairly sparse from TV. Which is somewhat understandable. No students (Thanksgiving break) & no band and there was a lot of other things going on yesterday. These Thanksgiving & Winter Break games always make me nervous with the thinner crowds.

Derrik's game is way better than last year.  Last year he had 75 fouls in 33 games.  This year 8 fouls in 4 games while playing almost twice the minutes.  He is averaging 5.8 boards per game which is more than twice what he did last year. He is shooting 77% from the floor while last year he shot 48% and even his free throw % is up from 42% to 64%.

Granted it is only 4 games but his confidence is only going to go up.

I like Golder at the 4, he is a great defender and can out jump anybody.  Matt wants our guys to get to the line and Marcus adds that aggressive mentality.

I totally agree that Smits is improved from  last year, especially offensively.  However he really needs to step up in rebounding.  He is always the biggest guy on the court but he needs to get more aggressive so his rebound numbers go up.  I realize his numbers are up from last year but that doesn't say a whole lot.  I believe his minutes are up too which explains some of the increases.  I too believe he will develop more but I think we will get a better feel when he goes up against guys closer in size to him.  So far I don't think he has faced anyone near his size but I could be wrong.

I wonder if it had to do with us running up the score by hitting a 3 with 6 seconds to go when we were already up by 27.  coaches don't like that kinda stuff.

That's what I was thinking too. Also there was that collision at the basket at the end of the game where they somehow didn't call a foul. Also there was a moment in the game where the refs called an over the back on Golder and it got a little chippy between him and the SELA player fighting for that rebound.

Most likely to had to do with the 2 three point shots taken with less than 20 seconds to go in a 27 point game.  First Micah Bradford shot one and then McMillan shot one with 4 seconds and made it.

I remember games when we dribbled the shot clock out and handed the ball over.

The only questionable shot at the end of the game was Mileek's 3. I'm ok with Micah's 3 pointer because there was still more then a 1:30 minutes left on the shot clock, if I remember correctly.

It's a teachable moment for the freshman.

Joe Maddon, manager for the Cubs, says to an athlete who does not like the way things are going something along the lines of: "if you don't like it, play better."

I would say something similar to any coach who has a score run up on them (to an extent): "if you don't like it, have your team play better."

If an opposing team freshman has the ball with time left in the game, so long as they are not showboating, then by all means take the shot, and don't purposely miss.

My feeling is that if the team being dominated is still trying to chuck up quick threes to get back in the game (or worse, make the scoring margin seem more respectable) then it's okay for the dominant team to still try to score.

Exactly it's not like Valpo was pounding them with their starters continuing to pour in threes this was a freshman who may struggle to find minutes as the season progresses looking to have a moment of confidence by seeing the ball go through the basket in a game situation. These moments are huge for young reserves. Let the kid have his moment.

I was almost surprised that it wasn't an issue and am interested to hear that it might have been.  No one on here liked Junior's dunk at the end of the Detroit Mercy playoff game, and while these shots were not as egregious as that display it is still something that as a coach you don't like to see and will probably let the opposing coach know about, then write it off as young players making an etiquette mistake. Probably something they won't do again.

Here's what lacks etiquette:

A coach who leaves 3 starters in to the bitter end in a game you're losing by 25 points. If the losing coach refuses to concede the game by pulling his starters, the winning team has every right to keep attacking the basket - with starters if so desired. Yet, this knucklehead kept his starters In the game to go against the end of Valpo's bench, obviously hoping to close the gap a bit on easy, half-contested layups and make a humiliating loss look a little less humiliating. Instead, Valpo's subs, to their credit, played aggressive defense and hit a few clutch shots down the stretch and widened the lead.

Now let's talk common sense. Only a complete idiot risks injury to his starters by keeping them in to the end of a 25-point loss.

Now let's talk maturity. Only someone with a born-and-bred victim's mentality would have the audacity to bitch to an opposing coach about one of the end of their bench subs shooting a 3 at the end of the game against his starters.

Bottom line - the guy is a complete loser. I can just picture him at Thanksgiving at his house telling his sister-in-law how she could have kept her homemade dinner rolls warmer in transit so his butter pat would melt easier.

Now let's talk maturity. Only someone with a born-and-bread victim's mentality would have the audacity to bitch to an opposing coach about one of the end of their bench subs shooting a 3 at the end of the game against his starters.

Bottom line - the guy is a complete loser. I can just picture him at Thanksgiving at his house telling his sister-in-law how she could have kept her homemade dinner rolls warmer in transit so his butter pat would melt easier.

Wow!  Had to laugh, but still, pretty brutal!   ;)

For anyone interested in end of game etiquette check out this great blog post from Ken Pomeroy.

https://kenpom.com/blog/the-evolution-of-end-game-customs/ (https://kenpom.com/blog/the-evolution-of-end-game-customs/)

Lots of great examples from the pre- and early shot clock era where there was no problem with playing out until the final whistle and adding a meaningless dunk or alley-oop at the end of the game. Over the last 20 years or so things have changed a lot.

True story. I had this dream last night. In the dream my wife and I went over to our daughter's house for a family Thanksgiving dinner. We brought a gift with us as a token of our appreciation for them hosting the entire family for Thanksgiving. When everyone was assembled in the dining room, I handed it to my son-in-law. He immediately unboxed it and held it up. Much to everyone's surprise (including mine), it was a Christmas wreath with Southeast Louisiana University's logo superimposed on the face. Both my S-I-L and daughter graciously thanked us, after which my S-I-L stuffed it into his turkey fryer and deep fried it. End of dream.

Now I'm Pharaoh looking for a Joseph to interpret this for me. Any thoughts?

If your significant other is cheating on you in your dreams, it doesn't necessarily mean he or she is doing the same in real life, but it does mean you're thinking about it. It means you're upset about it -- consciously or unconsciously -- throughout the day.

It means something is wrong and you must figure out why before your relationship gets to a point at which you're no longer dreaming about a broken relationship, but living through one.

The same can be said with any of our relationships. If our relationship with our mother isn't going well, it will come out through a nightmare or symbols that represents that fractured relationship.

There are common symbols in dreams, like losing your teeth, which represents sexual repression and fear of being alone. Or drowning, which symbolizes feeling emotionally overwhelmed and depleted. These symbols are studied so we can figure out what our unconscious mind is trying to tell us.

While we have symbols for everything else, we don't have symbols for those faces and names we see every day in our conscious world that show up in our dream one. That's because there is no explanation needed. If someone is showing up in your sleeping mind, it's because that person is meant to be there.

If you are dreaming about that person, you are thinking about him or her. And if you are reflecting on that person, pining after and dreaming of him or her unconsciously then maybe, just maybe, you should take it a little more seriously and ask yourself why that person is there.

I think you are dreaming of your S-I-L and daughter because you have a resentment against them. You feel like you should figuratively beat them like Valpo beat up on Southeastern Louisiana.
